Season 2 finished up here in Ireland tonight and the prospects of season 3 are good. I know it might be a bit early to be talking about it, but it’s only 3 months away.
Here’s some official info on season 3: ”Season three will begin airing in the United States and Canada on October 4, 2006. It will feature 23 episodes that will be delivered in two blocks: an initial autumn arc of six episodes and a second run of seventeen consecutive episodes beginning in February 2007. The story will continue 65 days after the crash, and Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have planned for the coming season to focus on the Others (as led by "Henry Gale") and their history, ranks, and goals. According to executive producer Damon Lindelof, the audience will meet more survivors of the plane crash as new characters in the third season, and these new survivors' flashbacks will be featured as a unique and central component of the series (existing cast members' flashbacks will accordingly be fewer than in previous seasons).”
When I first saw the pilot, I was only watching to see what the show was about. I was intrigued considering the hype surrounding the show. I thought it was going to be some kind of “lets pull together as a team and love each other” bullshit kind of a show, where people have to cope with their diversities on a deserted island. Of course when trees started to get torn down by a “security system” I was hooked. I never thought it was a dinosaur, just some kind of giant mechanical beastie. Turns out it was…smoke.
P.S. Before I go any further, to avoid having people go “Aw, you ruined the show for me by saying that”, it’s probably better to write spoilers in red so people who haven’t seen all of season2 don’t get crazy.
Spoiler Warning For Channel 4 viewers Something that bothered me about the season 2 finale (other than the fact that RTE choose to split the finale and show it over two weeks) is Desmond’s boat. He was on his way to Fiji, but landed back at the island due to the magnetism. Right. To get to Fiji wouldn’t he be using a GPS system or something? Don’t most sea worthy boats have radio transmitters, to contact people if the need help? How come none of the islanders asked these questions as it would aid it their rescue? Sayid, who knows stuff about transmitters is on the boat sailing around with Jin, who knows how to sail, and they never mention it. If the magnetism of the island brought him back there, then even the ships compass would have been spinning wildly. But no one brings it up. It seems like a total cock-up. This plot hole could’ve been easily fixed:
Random Character: Is there a radio transmitter on the boat? Something we can use? Desmond: No brother (brothah), when I found the boat it had been ram sacked. The transmitters and GPS were gone. (Cue Spooky Music)
I‘m glad they resolved some of the unanswered questions. But there‘s still a lot of things left lingering. One of which is Libby‘s back-story, which seems hard to resolve considering she’s dead and can’t have flashbacks. But I’m sure she’ll turn up elsewhere
I’ll admit the acting/writing/camera work/cgi aren’t always spot on. But it always redeems itself with a seat-jumpingly good cliff-hanger at the end of the show, that‘ll have shouting “what the shit?” at your TV.
Here’s season 3 stuff from comic-con http://tv.ign.com/articles/720/720495p1.html
Oh, and what’s your view on the season 2 finale. Did it live up to JJ Abrams “Greatest finale in TV history”?

I read an interview of the chick who plays/played Shannon. This was a long while back. She said they hoped to do a third season if season 2 was successful and then they'd end it with a movie. But if season 2 wasn't successful, they'd make the movie after that. BUT, ABC apparently have the cast signed on for another 3 seasons. So there should be 5 in total. Whether they do a movie after that or not remains to be seen.
Hopefully they won't keep churning out the show longer than the should. In the comic-con article posted in the link above they say: "Lindelof talked about the show having what he saw as a logical endpoint, and balancing that with the network likely wanting the show to go on for several years, saying, "We have four, maybe five awesome seasons planned out, and after that we'd have to start tap dancing, which is something we don't want to do," and pondered telling the network, "Fine, you can do more episodes of Lost, but we won't have anything to do with that." Ultimately, Lindelof observed, "The reality of ending it on our own terms is unrealistic, so we have to work around that."

It really doesn't matter if you saw the first series or not. You still won't know what's going on.

Well a few things are explained at the end of the second season that tie up some stuff. And it does help to know the flashbacks from the first season.

I have a feeling I completely missed the boat on this one. I know nothing of it but remember thinking it looked like a Survivor clone... obviously a mistake?

He'll be back for the third season according to the comic-con article. Rousseau is supposed to be a regular character in the third too. Hopefully one of the first episode of the new season will have Walt flashbacks of his time with the others.

Some season3 stuff: http://www.rte.ie/arts/2006/0817/lost.html
As for the story: If the first season was all about the original plane-crash survivors adjusting to their new lives on a deserted island, and the second season was all about the so-called "tailies" (those who were in the tail of the plane, whom the originals had thought were dead), "this year," Lilly said, "we've opened this up to another whole other people, a whole other location, a whole other facet through which we can tell stories."
Michael Emerson, who plays the leader of "The Others" group, noted, "What I know is that we get to go live with The Others, where they learn a little more about their life and, hopefully, their mission, their agenda, whatever that might be. Maybe we'll get to warm up to them."
Producer Burk promised that many of the second season's looming questions would be answered in the first six episodes. But, warned actor Daniel Dae Kim, "I think for every question that's answered, there's another one that's posed, and that's kind of what keeps people coming back."
Cuse said the new season will include more action and adventure, and that new characters could well serve as love interests. And, he added, Sawyer (Holloway) and Jack (Matthew Fox) definitely will be competing for the romantic affections of Kate (Lilly).
But don't expect the show to get all soft.
"There'll be a lot of love. There'll be a lot of comedy," Burk said. "But we never can forget that these people are in a very dark place." More here: http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/entertainment/15291708.htm and http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060817/LIFE/608170314/1005
There will also be a video game coming out at some stage next year for next-gen consoles. It'll be made by Ubisoft, which means the Crytek Engine will probably be used for the Lost game. Crytek worked with Ubisoft to create FarCry and the upcoming Crysis, so at least we know the island and jungles will look good.

...So, season 3 starts next Wednesday, the first three episodes are as follows:
04 October 2006 S3 E01 "A Tale of Two Cities" Jack, Kate and Sawyer begin to discover what they are up against as prisoners of "The Others." 10.11 S3 E02: "The Glass Ballerina" 10.18 S3 E03: "Further Instructions"
There's a large version of the promo poster here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/dd/LostS3Promo.jpg (The reoccurring LOST reference of eyes, again. And what's that in Jacks right eye?)
Once LOST is mid-season on ABC it’s start over here on RTE, which won’t be till February. I’ll resist the temptation to download new episodes so that I can watch it on a proper telly.

Can't wait to see season 3. It's starting over here October 31st, (a whole 5 months earlier than originally scheduled due to RTE competing with Sky) I've read what happens in the first two or three minutes of the first episode. It sounds like it's going to be good

The creators of the show say that it isn't nanomachines, and it isn't based on a creature from a book called "Prey" (Which i think is meant to be similar to the smoke thing)
