I'm considering going. The problem is that I'll have to get a hotel. I don't wanna drive back to Boston after the show. Wellfleet in August is gonna be a pain in the ass to get a hotel room for one night.

By the way, are any of you familiar with Reid Paley? He used to be in a Boston band called The Five. They were around when The Pixies were still playing small local clube. The were a great band!

I will unequivocably be there. However, due to age restrictions (2 months short of being 21.....), I will probably be the only person sitting outside the venue with a blanket and a picnic basket. If anyone else with young blood wants to join me, you knwo where ill be.

Does anyone know what the setup is like for a show at The Beachcomber? Standing room only? Any seats?

Had lunch there once. It's a small bar restaurant with an outside bar as well. Cool place. It's like in the dunes. You will be standing I think if you want to see the show.

now THAT was an incredible show. Highlights for me were: Western Star, Two Reelers, Sing for Joy, Massif Centrale, and Bullet.

Also, it turned out that chillin outside the venue worked out pretty fuckin great. They had these big windows right behind the stage, and some guy was nice enough to open most of em for me. I was probably 6 or 7 feet behind Frank, but it was sort of to the side of him so the view was good. It also made it easier to go crazy without some asshole hushing me every 5 minutes.

Well, ill see you all on the inside in Montreal

The beachcomber gig was a great show, although there seems to be some differing opinions on Reid, I thought he was great as well. This was probably the best Frank show I have seen and I have seen some awesome shows.

I bumped into Reid at the bar and told him it was a great set, he agreed. I would have told Mr. Black the same thing.

I thought Reid was awful but I wasn't shocked as I thought the same when I saw him several years ago open for the Catholics. I thought he would have at least come up with some new material in the years since I last saw him. He played all the same songs he played years ago. Not sure why Frank hangs with this guy but apparently there must some reason.

You weren't by any chance wearing a fedora, were you?

Anyway, I've been waiting five days to get home from the Cape and get internet access back, but now I've forgotten a lot of what I wanted to write. But I can still remember that it was just phenomenal. Highlights were most definitely "Two Reelers" (screamed it like he hated that bitch [and also loved the added bits about Mr. White being the producer]), "Dead Man's Curve", "Living on Soul" (my favorite Frank b-side), "Massif Centrale", "Adda Lee" (!!!), and the acappella "Six-Sixty-Six". Man, oh man oh man, was the latter ever beautiful.

Wrote the setlist down as the show progressed:

01) Headache (aborted)
02) Los Angeles
03) Mr. Grieves
04) Horrible Day
05) Song of the Shrimp
06) Nadine
07) Bullet
08) Kicked in the Taco
09) Headache
10) Dead Man's Curve
11) The Water
12) Fitzgerald (aborted)
13) Western Star
14) Cactus
15) I Burn Today
16) Sir Rockaby
17) Six-Sixty-Six (acapella)
18) Where Is My Mind?
19) Adda Lee
20) Brackish Boy
21) The Swimmer
22) All My Ghosts
23) Wave of Mutilation
24) (I Want to Live on an) Abstract Plain
25) Living on Soul
26) Sing for Joy
27) Massif Centrale
28) Two Reelers
29) I'll Be Blue

Very surprised not to hear any FM/RM songs aside from the aborted "Fitzgerald", as I watched him soundcheck, through the window, that and "My Terrible Ways" while waiting for the door to open (while one of Frank's daughters jumped about on stage next to him!).

The crowd was decent (only one person near me kept yelling out "Monkey!", which is down from about ten last time I saw him), although I don't understand why so many people payed to see Frank and then just stood in the back of the room, by the bar, yapping incredibly loudly. Oh, and I wanted to punch this girl who stood there looking bored until he played "WIMM?", at which point she turned to her friend while giving her the heavy metal horns and sticking her tongue out like fucking Gene Simmons.

By the way, what was the deal with the busload of people that showed up? They got to go in before everyone who was waiting in line for two hours, which seemed kind of unfair. A few of us guessed that perhaps Frank arranged to bus in family members from around the Cape, but there were a lot of people...well, but that must have been it, then. I can't see why any other group of people would be given preferential treatment.

I can't wait for the full band show in October.

EDIT: I hope Frank hasn't turned his back on Black Letter Days and Devil's Workshop, having only been playing "California Bound" from the former and nothing from the latter on this tour.

Indeed, I was. And I agree, BLD was sorely missed...

I guess I missed all the commotion beforehand, I didnt show up until right before ten. I had to get all my boozin done beforehand. Whiskey and Redbull for the whole 4 hour drive! heheh

OK I'm back. Here is a blog post about Frank where I link to my gallery from the Beachcomber show:
http://www.davepye.com/2006/08/wednesday-wadio-last-stand-of-shazeb.htm

I got the whole 'jockey violently for position in front of the stage' stuff out of my system when I used to go see the Pixies in Boston in the late 80s. So admittedly, these shots aren't great. You'll also have to sit through some of the usual 'look we're shitfaced' pics in between those of Charles on stage. And I won't even try to explain the newborn.

The highlight for me was Massif Centrale. I never thought I'd hear that live, let alone acoustic.

The next day on the beach I listened to my first FB.net podcast. #13, to be exact. A bang up job, you guys. You've found a new listener.

That October show will be fun.

Frank got on the bus temporarily after the show (I assume to say goodbye), so I assume he knew the passengers. We stayed out on the beach until all hours - truly lovely evening.

Did anyone else notice that Frank was playing pinball with his son for a while after he soundchecked? That was cool. Too bad there wasn't a pong machine.

I saw you having fun outside too mostastless. I was happy that it turned out well for you as you deserved.

Hah, I mentioned the pinball playing in the blog post I just linked to. Sopranos machine. I wanted to get a picture with him, but I just couldn't bring myself to disturb them.

No - I didn't go to the Amherst shows. By Avalon, and then the quiet Paradise show they did a year ago this month, I'd seen them on the reunion tour 5 times. I think I did alright! :)

It's because Reid was in a fairly successful Boston based band called The Five back when The Pixies were just starting out. They played a lot of small gigs together. The Five was great!
