I cant wait for this movie.
Rocky is one of my guilty pleasures, I absolutely love it despite knowing its tripe. Im constantly trying to get my flatmates to watch all 5 in one day with me (working title: Rocky Day) so far to no avail.
Yes this sounds like a ludicrous idea for a movie, but so was Rocky 5, and I freaking love that.
Now Im excited about the prospect of a seventh Rocky, in which an 104 year old Rocky, complete with Alzhiemers and Parkinsons, overcomes the odds to beat a sprightly young 23 year old who gets too big for his boots.

I like the first Rocky film, and I remember Mr. T was kind of cool in the third installment, but this just seems ludicrous to me (yes, almost as ludicrous as bringing back Miami Vice...;) I don't know if Sylvester Stallone had anything to do with making this happen or not, but if he did it would be kind of like William Shatner writing Star Trek novels...he brought Captain Kirk back in one of them (and it was a Next Generation novel) and I remember feeling as though he was beating a dead horse writing himself back into the continuity like that.
Are there no original ideas in Hollywood anymore?

When in college, my friends and i had Rocky Week - Sunday night was Rocky and Thursday night concluded the week with Rocky 5. Friday-Sunday we played the Rocky video game. Oh, what a week!

well Sylvester Stallone wrote and directed most of the Rocky films (notably, the first one), so it's not unusual. i've talked to some people who have seen the film and they have nothing but great things to say. i'm looking forward to seeing it.
aside from RAMBO he's also directing (and wrote) an Edgar Allen Poe biopic.

Speaking of Rambo, I read on wikipedia that the fourth film was supposed to be about how Rambo, now living a quiet life of solitude, is forced to return to action when his daughter is kidnapped.

Didn't they already make this movie back in the eighties, when it was called "Commando?"

What if they decided to do a Rocky vs. Rambo movie? (Of course, it would have to be hand-to-hand combat...)
Who would you bet on? I think that initially Rambo would kick Rocky's ass savagely, after which he would give a stirring monologue that aroused sympathy in the spectators. But, if given the proper amount of time to excercise and gather up motivation afterward, Rocky would come back and make Rambo his bitch.

Uh... I did that once. And worse than all, I was alone that day. I think I skipped half of Rocky III but sat through the 4.5 remaining flicks.

Boxing is a boring sport, it shouldn't exist outside of the cinema.
Rocky Balboa looks alright, I thought Sly would look terrible but from that trailer he doesn't look too old, so why not? I think the most exciting thing about this film is the return of the mighty Spider Rico. |

There were two Shatner-penned Star Trek atrocities...The Return (guess who returned) and The Ashes Of Eden. Shatner had an uncredited co-author on these (I believe it was an author by the name of Kris Kreski, who helps Shatner on ALL of his books), and still there were total Star Trek history discrepencies that went unseen.
Shatner ultimately was disappointed by the way Kirk died in Star Trek Generations, and beat that dead horse all the way to the bank...errors and all. Besides, it's William Shatner! The guy can do anything he wants! Scarily, there was even talk of these being produced as films back in the mid-90's. Now that would have been a nightmare. And no, there is rarely an original idea in Hollywood nowadays. But it's always operated on remakes. For dozens of years, 'talkies' were just remakes of silents. And after that, even, every ten years or so, something was remade. But leave MIAMI VICE alone! Sequels were not the common thing they are today until the 70's saw the advent of the term 'blockbuster'. Sure there were sequels before, and movie series' existed, but it was Rocky, Jaws, Star Wars, and Star Trek that really started the trend. I think it would be great to see where Rocky is today. I never saw 5, and 4 was awful...2 and 3 were actually better than the first! Total comfort-food movies. And Stallone is so ridiculous! HA HA! By the way...even though this is totally rambling...there is a Special Edition DVD that came out yesterday of ROADHOUSE with Patrick Swayze! How awesome is that?! His name is Dalton...he's got a degree in philosophy ..."You think you're tough? I fucked guys like you in prison!" I'm gonna have to get it!

I cant believe that people on here have also exectued Rocky marathons, I thought I was going to be laughed off the forum for liking the Rocky movies.
Was never a big fan of Rambo though, he was just a rampaging lunatic. Unlike Rocky, who was a lovable underdog with a heart of gold...

I used to watch the Star Trek movies back to back every now and again, kind of a marathon. (1-5, I didn't have 6 or any of the Next Generation movies...)
My sisters used to have horror movie marathon nights, where they'd choose the worst B-grade scary flicks they could find (I'm talking the Mosoleum, Wolfen, etc...)
And, I remember once watching the entire made-for-tv movie of the Stand once with my wife.

Rambo's back in action
Sylvester Stallone means to bring back his two most famous characters over the next twelve months. Having completed work on Rocky Balboa, which is due out this winter, the ageing action hero will direct and star in Rambo IV for release in summer 2007.
Rambo was one of the iconic film characters of the 1980s. Conceived as a psychotic anti-hero by author David Morrell in the novel First Blood, he was turned by Stallone into a misunderstood hero in the 1982 film adaptation, in which Rambo was the target of a manhunt in his home country.
The movie was a hit and it spawned a phenomenally successful 1985 sequel, Rambo: First Blood Part II in which Rambo returned to Vietnam to rescue prisoners of war. There was a backlash against the film's over the top comic book action and Commie-bashing politics but Stallone ignored the criticism and made 1988's Rambo III bigger, more spectacular and even more anti-Communist (the plot had Rambo fighting the Russians in Afghanistan... alongside the forerunners of the Taliban!). However, the result was less entertaining than its predecessors and audiences had moved on to more sophisticated action films like Lethal Weapon and Die Hard - Rambo III was an expensive disappointment.
Arriving eighteen years later, the fourth installment will go back to the series' grittier roots - like First Blood, it's a tough adventure movie set at home in America. The plot will involve John Rambo being forced to come out of retirement when his daughter goes missing.
The cast also includes James Brolin (The Amityville Horror), Kim Dickens (Hollow Man) and Jenna Boyd (Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants).

Sylvester Stallone is set to reprise his role of Vietnam vet John Rambo, in the third sequel in the “Rambo” franchise. Stallone will also produce and direct the film based on his own script titled, “Rambo IV: In The Serpent’s Eye.” Production is tentatively slated for January in Thailand.
The next chapter finds Rambo recruited by a group of Christian human rights missionaries to protect them against pirates, during a humanitarian aid deliver to the persecuted Karen people of Burma. After some of the missionaries are taken prisoner by sadistic Burmese soldiers, Rambo gets a second impossible job: to assemble a team of mercenaries to rescue the surviving relief workers.

'Rambo' rights in question
The Weinsteins are going Rambo over "Rambo IV" distribution rights. In 2004, rights to produce the sequel were transferred by the Weinstein Co. to a predecessor of film producer Nu Image, which has the action sequel in active development with Sylvester Stallone to reprise his usual topline role as a butt-kicking mercenary. But in a suit filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, the Weinsteins claim that Nu Image recently offered distribution rights to Lionsgate, even though the Weinstein Co. is supposed to have first right of refusal on the franchise. 'Rambo' Returns, on Location in Thailand

"Rambo" is preparing to return from retirement in Thailand early next year, and Oscar-winning actor Denzel Washington will also come here next month to play a drug lord in the upcoming film "American Gangster," a Thai film official said Thursday.
Sylvester Stallone will spend several weeks in Thailand early next year, shooting "Rambo IV: In the Serpent's Eye" in the country's lush, mountainous northern provinces, said Wanasiri Morakul, director of the Thailand Film Office.
In the latest sequel, John Rambo is pulled out of retirement in Bangkok to help find missionary aid workers who disappear as they're delivering supplies to ethnic minorities in neighboring Myanmar.
About 70 to 80 percent of the movie will be shot in Thailand in Bangkok and the northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai earning Thailand more than 200 million baht (US$5 million, euro4 million), Wanasiri told The Associated Press by telephone.
She said that after a committee read the "Rambo" script, they gave the green light for the shoot in Thailand, but voiced concern that violence in the movie could reflect badly on ethnic minorities on the Thai-Myanmar border.
"Some scenes might be a little bit violent, so we asked them not to make it too violent because if we say that the ethnic minorities are violent, it might be inappropriate," she said. "We did not forbid them we just asked them to be careful."
She also wanted the filmmakers to assure villagers and environmentalists that any bombing scenes "in that 'Rambo' style" would not harm the environment.
Activists were up in arms over the "The Beach" shot in 2000 and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, complaining a beach in a Thai national park was damaged during the shooting. The filmmakers denied it.
Washington will come to Thailand Nov. 8-13 to play Harlem heroin kingpin Frank Lucas in "American Gangster," about drugs smuggled to New York in the 1970s inside the coffins of American soldiers killed in the Vietnam War.
Only about 5 percent of the movie will be shot in Thailand in the capital Bangkok and in the mountainous north employing about 250 Thais and bringing the country at least 60 million baht (US$1.6 million, euro1.3 million), Wanasiri said.
Thailand has touted itself as an ideal film location and had a total of 372 shoots this year for foreign movies, TV series, ads and music videos, worth 1.38 billion baht (US$37 million, euro29 million).
Recent blockbusters shot partially in Thailand include "Alexander" and "Star Wars Episode III."

Rambo IV: In The Serpent's Eye is gearing up to shoot for several weeks in Thailand early next year, and Thai Film officials are happy to tell Hollywood that the Asian nation is open for filming. USA Today notes Thai Film officials are also proudly trumpeting the pending arrival of Denzel Washington who is coming to Thailand for a few days of shooting on American Gangster, in which he'll play a drug lord.
Wanasiri Morakul, Director of the Thai Film office says the Rambo crew will work for several weeks in the country's northern provinces as John Rambo is brought out of retirement to help find a group of missionary aid workers who have disappeared in Myanmar. 80% of the film will be shot in the Thai jungles and in Bangkok, and the movie will inject somewhere around $5 million into the local economy. The film office asked the production company to take care with the violent sequences, fearing the movie could exacerbate friction between Thailand and neighboring Myanmar, but nothing was forbidden.
Thailand's diplomatic relations with Hollywood stand in need of some repair: Shooting on the Nicholas Cage thriller Big Hit in Bangkok was suspended temporarily when the military coup began last month. Cage reportedly kept a jet ready for a quick getaway from the Southeast Asian nation if things got too dicey.
Film production is crucial to the Thai economy. Over 372 shoots took place in Thailand this year, and film production brought the equivalent of $37 million to the country.

i just watched it.
there IS much cheese, but the dewey-eyed nostalgic moments are there too.
he looks strong but also a little disgusting.
adrian is dead, he owns an italian restaurant, his kid is a 125lb stock broker and Mike Tyson is in the movie.
and he does sasy "yo adrian" once.
