I thought it'd be interesting if people posted images of where they live using Google Earth.

Here's mine:

That substation is pretty close to your house. Do you glow at night, or do your bones just hum.

That big black "c" shape on the right is a lake (incase anyone thought it was a huge hole leading to the underworld)
There was a prehistoric settlement there 5000 years ago. There's lots of old stuff round my way.

You mean using google earth? If so, you just do File->Save image (or something like that)

Otherwise Print Screen will do your whole screen or ALT+ print screen will grab just the window (Under Windows, of course)

cassandra is, I love ancient European cities. I remember seeing a documentary on Rome, I think, where you could see the outline of an old arena in the modern streets.

Due West of you there are two circles, one inside the other that must be the oldest part of a walled city, or a very large amphitheatre?

Sorry to disappoint you hammerhands, but there's no amphiteatre left in Toulouse, although it's a very ancient city. In fact the things you see on the left are a hippodrome (the big green ellipse) and just on top of it, there's indeed an amphiteatre, but it's a modern one near a subway station. In fact the ancient part of the city is more on the right side of the river. But there's no real Gallo-Roman remains visible in the city, most of it have been destroyed during the centuries or are still buried. The most part of Toulouse's visible architecture patrimony is from the XIth to the XIXth centuries.

You never know what lies underfoot.

The city I live in is just a baby, about 130 years old, but there is evidence of the history in the facades of some of the older buildings. There are tops of window frames that are only a foot or two above the ground but at one time would have been more or less at street level.

A couple of years ago the city was putting in new sewers, I think it was on Smith Street, where they dug down to cobblestone. At first I thought it was old sewers until I saw trolley tracks! You can also still see the lay of some old railway lines and also creeks that were forced underground.

Here is a copy of your satellite image highlighting the patterns, maybe they're just crop circles? I now see a third smaller circle.

Some of these images are years old.

This is me (quite possibly) on a Saturday afternoon, Labour Day to Victoria Day.
