I wasn't sure if Frank ever recovered his gear that was stolen a few years back, but last week i was rehearsing with my band at this studio/lockout and i saw this:

Sorry about the picture quality, it was with my cell phone at night but i thought someone here might know something about the whole situation. I know the name of the band it belongs to and i'm sure it's possible that frank himself might have gotten rid of some old equipment, but you never know.

Frank Black Gear Worth $70,000 Stolen

04.16.2001

Trailer, equipment belonging to former Pixies frontman and his Catholics taken outside Pennsylvania hotel

It was not a Good Friday for Frank Black and the Catholics.

The former Pixies frontman and his band woke up April 13 at a hotel in Lester, Pennsylvania, to find their trailer and approximately $70,000 worth of gear stolen.

Black (whose alias changed from Black Francis) and the Catholics had just played the fourth show of a 35-city national tour and were forced to cancel gigs in Washington, D.C., and Pittsburgh over the weekend, according to a statement from What Are Records?, their label.

The band has purchased new equipment and will resume the outing Monday (April 16) for the first of three sold-out shows at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto.

Although the 17 guitars, amplifiers, drums and other equipment were insured, some of the vintage instruments are irreplaceable, Black told the Associated Press. They include four 1960s Fender Telecaster guitars and a 1972 Fender Precision bass.

The white custom-made trailer — stolen from the EconoLodge parking lot at about 3 a.m. — also held several Vox AC 30 amps, two pedal steel guitars and a Gibson Les Paul guitar. The band has asked that anyone who has information about the stolen gear contact the Philadelphia Police Department or What Are Records? at 1-888-281-1289.

Now we must all try and understand
The songs of Frank Black,
So let's declare it a dance
And carry on the legacy!

Alright, someone call Ken Goes. Or Dean needs to use his best connection to get the word out--just in case.

The way the above article phrases it, one might believe the Philly PD and What Are Records? share a phone. Awww. How sweet.

We're on it, thanks guys and particularly chrisislies.

Well, we were on it, but the email bounced. Chris (?) could you please send me an email ASAP. cof at fb.net (except fb should be the full name, frankblack). Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.

Cheers,
Dean

Geeze you guys are impatient! :)

It's only been a couple weeks, I imagine it's still being looked at. I've not heard anything yet from Ken.

I think all of us (especially the musicians) felt Frank and co.'s pain upon hearing about their gear getting lifted. I remember feeling physically sick.

Yes. He says the Catholics will be reuniting in countries starting with 'Cz' but will eschew most of their back catalogue in favour of Latvian lullabies.

I'll never forget this outside The Showbox one night:

Me to EDF: So, has anyone heard anything about the stolen gear?
EDF: (turns quickly to look at Frank loadin shit in a van who is now giving me the f'n death ray)
Umm, no. Sorry. Still kind of a touchy subject.
Me: Oh man, I feel like an idiot.
EDF: Ah, don't worry about it.

can you imagine the acoustics in a place like hell? sounds like heaven to me.

or a bike.

well, it has been five years since the gear was stolen, and we've gone to his shows and bought his records/DVDs so hopefully he's been able to get himself a couple of new guitars. What [i]would be[i] cool though was if we got him a new Telecaster with some sort of frankblack.net themed motive laque (or however you say that - I mean the paint job anyhoo). Imagine seeing him on stage in 2007 with a fb.net guitar.

maybe that's a stupid idea. don't be afraid to let me know

That would be pretty neat, but best make it a squire tele to keep costs down a little. A nice shiny new plectrum with the face of our prettiest forumer (recently decided by hotornot.com) if donations total a couple o' bucks.

It would be cool to us but to others it would look like he was advertising his website and much less cool. But I see where you're comin' from. :)

Y'no... All of this gear was stolen, but he came to cleveland like four days later and put on a hell of a show with the catholics. ANYWAY, there has to be a way someone could have really checked into this... From the pictures at the beginning of the post, I mean they had his road cases.

Tell ya all what... I am a going to jail type billy radcliffe if I ever saw some of his old equip in the haNDS OF ANOTHER BAND. 'Cause I would be holding them all at bay with a couple of broken beer bottles until authorities arrived to either sort this out or haul my ass off to jail.

Y'all should have made chrisislies give up on the name of the BAND who had it. then the loyal listeners between ohio and PA could have beat their asses

...And if I'm right, the urban plight is not the problem.

The last word is that we would be notified if/when anything came from it. I'd rather not nag, though I hope that they do track down some of their stuff.
