the main reason i don't like FMRM is because of frank black's vocals. the melodies. the attempt to sing the melodies. and in some cases, the words the melodies are sung with. all three combine to form one huge suck. another reason i can think of is the poor and inconsistent production on some of the honeycomb left over tracks.

m4r, just wondering how many times you've played FMRM? I assume maybe you've stopped listening to it now since you seem to have a fair amount of disdain for it.
I liked most of it from the first play and the rest has grown on me the more times I've played it - although I recall an older post of yours where you said it seemed to get worse the more times you played it. So do you still give it a spin hoping it will get better, or have you totally given up?

Blind allegiance? Hmmmmrrgg. I too was a little confused about the new music. But, what's new? It's simply the price of admission into Frank's World. Did I hold back my initial negative review because Frank Black might read it? Yes. I'm polite to polite people. I also held it back because the rest of you might read it. Now, I love the new record and I have no regret.
Also, I would have to say that if some stranger came up to me on the street and said my opinion is simply because of blind allegiance, I would probably be quite surprised. That's a blind insult in my neighborhood. |

I just don't really see the value in what seems to be obsessing about an album you don't like. What's the point in bashing it in thread after thread?
For the most part, I'd say FB fans, and members of this forum in particular, are fairly intelligent people that can make their minds on what they like or don't like on their own.
Is making a lot of posts about how much you don't like the album going to change any minds? The people of this forum? Frank Black? Will he read your post and think, "oh man, this dude really hated it. I must change my direction musically".
Absolutely this forum is about discussing the music of Frank Black, but your opinion is known. You don't like FMRM. As suggested, your negative opinion about the album would probably be better received in a thread for peopl that don't like it.
Anyway, it's almost a guarantee that FB will have a new album within a year or so that you might like better. Move on. |

Each new album I am suprised, and then after pious relistenings, nicely. And then nicerly after subsequent relistenings. For me, the man can do no wrong. That used to bother me, but I have yielded. FMRM is just great. I wish I could nutshellify why. FB has shaped and reshaped my taste as he has progressed and, in my humble opinion, improved as he has graduated from his more carrion tones, which I loved, to more tender tones. Some might say his sound has become more country or even pop, but he does it in such an erudite way, with such a grand ol versatile voice which makes it so fresh and kind of mysterious until you learn the chords and then it's so simple but genius in it's simplicity. And to punch out so many.. Sorry, I'll stop now. I do tend to go on...
In a nutshell, it's grouse, but rest assured, I know why. :D |
