Yeh, the frets of my Telecaster are nackered, some places when you bend so far the string just stops making a noise. Anyone know how much it is likely to cost to get them re-done or if I'd just be better getting a new neck?? (I'd rather get them re-done because I love my neck, I have painstakingly sanded it over quite a long period and to me it is perfect, but if getting a new neck would be cheaper I might not have a choice)

I wouldn't recommend yanking them out and plugging new ones in. What you need is probably a fret levelling, which also needs to be done when you install new frets. I do recommend getting a good luthier to do this.

Please note that most Tele's have a 9" or ?7.5"? neck radius and will (by geometry) fret-out on bends much quicker than a 12" radius.

There are all sorts of different fret wires, in different widths and heights. It would be a good idea to make sure you know what type of wire you want.

You can find fret wire wherever you buy your luthier supplies!

Also Stewmac.

Allparts has a uk site too.

Sometimes it will come pre-cut.

There also has been pre-cut Fender branded fret wire.

I don't know that the above linked fret-levelling demonstration is the preferred method. What I have read before (Benedetto) involved a tool similar to this and some customised rulers.

Still this is not considered a huge job, even a refret isn't considered huge, and should not cost anything like the price of a new neck. This is a price list for a luthier I know. He does good work, is considered rather new and therefore is not the most expensive place to go.

[Actually, these prices seem a little steep to me...]

My brother is a luthier and charges a lot because anyone who canīt figure out simple work like that for themselves doesnīt deserve a good price.

Most of this tuff I don't know what the hell your on about lol, all I know is my frets are nackered lol. My mate told me today that one of the teachers at my school would be happy to have a look at it - he used to be a touring guitarist for all sorts of folk such as Elvis Costello - and apparantely he said he'd do it because he has like 5 Teles, I don't know who he is though, so I'll find out soon enough.

Thank's for the info anyhoo
