I was seriously considering emaliing Lyle about The End of the Summer. But he is on tour with Sting I think so I don't wanna bother him.
I don't know what the hell is up with the chorus. I suppose I'll keep at it. |

I don't know how you guys do it. I've only tabbed one thing, and it was the drum tab for Dime by CAKE. I lost it anyway. I need to find that, it took me a long time.

Thanks for the sheet music, that should definitely help. Or maybe not.
Alright Derek, try an Am+ as that first chord. Or, if you'd prefer:
left hand: F-C-A right: G Eb G
Although, by that standard, it looks like the second chord may be a Gm9 not just a Gm...

A couple of comments regarding "The End of the Summer":
I'm pretty sure that the chord in the verse is an e half-diminished seventh )rather than a Bbdim5), which should be written as the letter E, followed by a circle with a slash through it. I don't know if it's possible to do such a symbol on this forum (you can do it in Microsoft Word), so you may have to write it like Ehalf-dim7 or Em7b5. In case your not aware, this chord is formed by the notes E-G-Bb-D (almost the same as what you wrote). In the Bridge, you used the chord Em7b5, which is the same thing as E half-dimished seventh, so if you can figure out how to use the circle with slash symbol, it would be much easier to read and write. In the chorus, I'm not sure about the guitar, but the piano definitely plays a Gm chord as the first chord on each line, and the bass goes from F to G, like so:
Gm/F Gm
Save me

See, on the "Me" there's also an 'E' in the chord, which is why I think it's a Gm9, but I readily admit to not being anything close to a chord expert. For example, I'm not sure how you tell what the chord is. If you use the lowest note as your base, "Save" should be some sort of F. Which I know isn't always the case, but I don't remember the rules there... but I don't see how that would be a Gm chord because wouldn't that have a Bb? Again, no expert here, I defer to Nimrod, but am curious what I'm missing. I would think that transcribing from piano to guitar you'd need to include some of the bass notes since the treble a lot, but maybe that's what I'm doing wrong.

Well, I take that back about the chorus, it may be more like
Gm(add4)/F Gm6
Save Me
There's definitely a C in the first chord

Here's what we know for sure--the absolutely indisputable facts: -There's an E in the second chord--the E right above middle C to be exact. -There's a C in the first chord--middle C--which moves down to Bb in the second chord. This C can be clearly heard at exactly 1:38-39 into the song -There's at least one G in both chords--the one right above middle C. This is the highest note in each chord. -There is an Eb--the one right above middle C--in the first chord (which I missed in the above posts when I called this a Gm), which changes to an E in the second chord. (this is especially clear from 2:39-2:42) -The bass guitar is playing an F for the first chord, and in the second one a G (for possibly the clearest example of this, listen from 2:39 to 2:42)
Now, no longer in the indisputable facts, I am very confident that the second piano chord is built in the right hand with the notes Bb-E-G, with a G and possibly other notes (it's not clear enough for me to distinguish) in the left hand.
I am very confident that the first chord is built in the right hand with the notes C-Eb-G, and in the left hand with an F and possibly some other notes.
It is possible that there is also a lower G in the right hand of each chord that I am not distinguishing, but I don't think so.
I therefore officially (unless there are any objections) declare the chords to be:
Cm/F and then Gm6 (without the D, which is not necessary to point out, since it's in the vocal melody and therefore an implied note in the chord, so to speak).

Cm/F works for me, though I should play it at home before saying so. The 'A' is missing, but probably not a problem. And yeah, that should've been a Gm6 not 9, my bad. Should know better than to type upside-down.

Thanks for all your input guys. But, I think I'm just gonna say the answer is "C". That is the default answer for a multiple choice question so I don't see why it wouldn't be for this...
Alright, I'm messing around with it right now in Adobe Premiere to see if I can isolate anything. I'm thinking the keyboards are adding in some extra notes that the guitar might not even be hitting. Stay tuned... I'm agreeing with the Gm6, but I'm not convince about the Cm/F yet. You all could be right though. |

After taking out any frequencies below 60 Hz and listening through headphones, I'm definitely changing the Ab in this part:
Gm Bb Ab Gsus4 G
A house becomes a ghost in the heart
It sounds like the Em7b5 chord but one step higher. So Fm7b5 I suppose. That sound good? |

Alright, I agree with the Cm/F, so this should be the final chorus:
[CHORUS]
Cm/F Gm6 A7 D7
Save me, the ghost in my heart
Cm/F Gm6 Am6 D7
Save me, the mark on my soul
Cm/F Gm6 A7 D7
Save me, the end of the summer
Cm/F Gm6 Bbadd9 D7
Save me, I'm not feeling whole
and the guitar chords will be something like:
e--3------0----0----2--(5)---1----
B--4------3----2----1---5----1----
G--5------3----0----2---5----3----
D--3------2----2----0---4----3----
A--3------x----0--------0----1----
E---------3-----------------------
Cm/F Gm6 A7 D7 Am6 Bbadd9
Any objections to this?

I'm still debating that "Ab" though. Maybe it is:
xx3534
Notes:
x x F C D Ab
That sounds right to me, but I don't know what it's called.
And because of that chord I'm thinking the Gsus4 G part might just be
e--3--3-- b--3--3-- g--5--4-- d--3--3-- a--x--x-- e--x--x--
So would that make it a G7sus4 G7 ? |

F-C-D-Ab would be Fm6. I think your right about that one. Remember, it's Fm6/Ab. Actually, the guitar itself may not be playing an Ab, but the bass is, so I don't know if it's necessary to point that out or not. And yes, those chords you diagramed are indeed G7sus4 and G7. The G is missing, but once again, it's what I would call an "implied" G since there's a G in the vocal melody.

Final End of the Summer tab!!! Let me know what you guys think and if I should make any changes. This tab is complicated as hell, but there is no other way to do it. I might also tab it with the chord formations over top of each word. That might help.

Derek, what do you think about Frank's version of Le Sicilienne? I think what Lyle (and now you) have done is something special, but I don't think the song itself could ever inspire me to play it. I would love to know your thoughts because you've spent some quality time with 'End of Summer'. |

I like Frank's version of Le Sicilenne. I can't say I've heard one arranged by Gabriel Faure, but the song is complex and tricky on guitar. It's no I, IV, V progression. It definitely isn't a "fun" song to play because it's difficult, but if anyone has the time I'd recommend trying to play it on guitar. It gets you playing chords you may not be used to; it would be a good finger exercise. If no one ever uses this tab I won't mind, because I'm glad I figured it out (with a little help). It took forever I'll admit. |

Ok keyboard friends... check out this part of "Seven Days" and let me know if it sounds correct. And whether you know the official chord name.
Eb D7 Bbm F xx3021 << Db-bass note
On my way back home from seven years
xx3020 F Dm
In seven days
Eb D7 Bbm F xx3021
Seven winters blown like seven players
xx3020 F Dm F Dm
Who had no cheer
The notes of xx3021 are: F, G, Db, F
The notes of xx3020 are: F, G, Db, E
My guess at the first one would be F suspended 2nd Augmented 5th, but that sounds ridiculous. Or maybe it's a sus9, aug12? Ha. |

...right after the first C, to include more of the lead riff.
