Bluejacking is when someone uses a bluetooth mobile phone to send an anonymous message or picture to another bluetooth phone. It's usually done in public places, for fun, just to harmlessly mess with people. You don't need the persons phone number or any information about them, you can scan to find "victims" with your phone. The standard message seems to be "You've been bluejacked", but it can be anything you want.
I'd like to know if anyone has ever been Bluejacked or if you are a Bluejacker.
I've only recently taken an interest in Bluejacking, and having only found out today that i can do it from my phone, i'm willing to give it a go at least once or twice.

I never really do it, but I like to look for funny bluetooth names. I'll give it a go next week. Some unsuspecting person is gonna get a picture of Noel Edmonds, baby! Yeah!

I plan on standing outside Vodafone/O2 or car phone warehouse and sending a message like. "Congratulations Millionth Customer! Claim your prize at the till" (If it'll fit) and then seeing if the person tries to get some swag. With hilarious results.
Is it just your bluetooth name that gets sent with the message or does your phonenumber get sent too?

Dude, seriously, you are asking people to help you send out phone spam?

It's only a bit of fun really. It's not like i'm going to be standing around town all day pissing people off for my mundane amusement. I tried it out on my brother today and he thought it was pretty funny. I can see it having more of a practical use for messing with my friends than with strangers. If i was getting messages saying things like "nice jacket" or "nice shoes" i think i'd be fairly annoyed. But other than that i wouldn't really mind.

I think it's just your bluetooth name and not your number.

I think you have to block out your number when you do this, or you did when I was last aware of these goings on (three years ago...)

It would really piss me off if i was out somewhere and got messages from someone doing "guerrilla marketing". Getting messages like "you've been bluejacked" (i've heard some people send "your phone wuvs you") are fine with me. It's pretty mush the same as someone writing "wash me" on a dirty car

I thought you couldn't send messages via bluetooth? Just pictures, videos etc.
Does it depend on your handset or something?

I think you send a "contact", as in someones name and number, but you change the name to a message and the number can be something like #. Then just send it.

I hear there is a scam going round involving this. If you leave your phone's bluetooth on all the time, you run the risk of people charging calls to your phone. I am not sure how this works though. Could just be more scaremongering.

I heard of "bluesnarfing", where photos and text messages are stolen off peoples phones through bluetooth. They might be able to do get free calls too. But they'd probably have to stand close to you throughout the call to do that.

WORSE! Most new PCs and laptops have inbuilt bluetooth. So people could be stealing stuff from your "special folder(s)"

To be honest i'd say blusnarfing is fairly rare. When the PS3 comes out, will people be blujacking that too? There's some kind of bluetooth hub for the controllers in it, so it's possible. If it can be done to phones, PDAs, and computers... Imagine sitting at home in front of your TV and suddenly someone sends a picture of their balls to your PS3! (Don't imagine for too long)

I sent my mate a message today saying "You've been bluejacked!" (he didn't know it was me who'd sent it). He was was like "Oh shit, I've been bluejacked!" and looked really worried for a while. I think he thought it meant someone was spending all the credit on his phone or something.
Then I told him it was me and he looked a little relieved. It was really funny for a minute, just seeing the worry on his face.

I forgot to mention that I got a message through bluetooth last week. It just said "Hi, how are you?" The person had turned their bluetooth off before I had a chance to reply though.
Some people I know have their bluetooth name as 'send me some stuff' and get lots of random pics/videos etc.

I still haven't given it a go. A few weeks back standing in a shop next to O2 i was able to pick up the instore imac display model. I must try that.
