Personally I never deviate from BBC News. The website is perfect. Not messy, I can find my way around very easily, and there aren't any adverts down the side or that pop up over what you're reading. Moreover, I reckon they're probably the most impartial news broadcaster of their magnitude. I can't stand any American news websites, though I sometimes read Slashdot- if that counts as real news. I'm not so keen on the websites of newspapers either. Though if I had to choose, I'd choose the Guardians, purely on aesthetic.
As for music news, it's not as simple. For silly things I oft see what the NME are talking about, but quite seldom do I visit there nowadays. Pitchfork is alright for news, but they tend to babble a bit and fit as many indie-puns in as possible. I think they've recently updated their news section actually, it looks different. A bit better. Drowned in Sound is alright for news sometimes too, though the news posted there is usually lifted from elsewhere, or just not that interesting. I do like the ability to discuss pretty much every piece of content there, though.
So what about you? Where do you get your news, what do you prefer, etc etc.

I don't read timely news. I polyangulate after awhile, and hope I am getting some semi-reliable information.
I like that you said "most impartial" about the BBC--not because I have a particular fondness for their news, but because I think an unqualified "impartial" is lying. No one, nothing is impartial, ever.

I definitely like BBC but also run a gamut of stuff into my news reader. Lots of tech news and truth be told, I rarely remember to look at music news...

I usually watch BBC News and read The Guardian for my fill of current events. The BBC is by far and away the best news service around, very informative and to the point. The Guardian is my favourite paper but can piss me off sometimes with its loony lefty agenda. I tend not to read news websites because staring at the computer screen hurts my eyeballs.
As for music news, most music magazines and websites such as NME and pitchfork are too indie-tastic for my tastes and just wind up getting on my nerves. Instead I read the The Guardian's Film and Music supplement on a friday and the Observer music monthly, both of which I find to be well written and extremely comprehensive. They also feature interesting articles and interviews which are a refreshing change from NMEs kiss and tell bullshit.

I hate the observer music monthly I have to confess, It's not all that far removed from the NME hype machine and the paper sucks too. Whenever I get round to buying a paper I usually buy the Times more out of habit than anything and other news mostly the BBC although if any one subject interests me enough I'll browse about for other takes on it.

For music news I read Pitchfork, Tiny Mix Tapes, stereogum and largehearted boy. Pitchfork generally features only the "biggest" stories, Tiny Mix Tapes is always on top of RIAA related legal crap (with their extremely annoying attempts at humor nearly ruining an otherwise fine site), stereogum is essentially an indie tabloid, though it's great for links to live mp3 of covers (like Twilight Singers doing Gnarls Barkley) or YouTube links to people making complete asses of themselves (like David Lee Roth doing a bluegrass version of Jump on Leno), and largehearted boy is just the greatest invention ever.

I start each day at my Yahoo home page, which I have configured to provide AP/Reuters general and political top/world stories, AFP, LA Times, Chicago Trubune, USA Today, top entertainment, science, and sports stories. I trust almost none of these guys and read mostly to see what the biased media wants us to believe. I next go to instapundit.com and then nationalreview.com, with special attention to exploration of links at both and at “the Corner” at national review. Then it’s memeorandum.com , again with emphasis on linked stories. All this links to a bunch of blogs, which in turn link further, faves being townhall.com , buzzmachine.com , insidehighered.com , powerlineblog.com , captainsquarters.com , dissectleft.blogspot.com , brusselsjournal.com , and many, many others. I am most interested in bias in media and academia, and the resultant manipulation of public opinion. Although there are always good stories to be found everywhere, the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, and all the other oldtime, mainstream, big city deadtree newpapers routinely drive me to despair or rage, depending upon my mood.

Meh. I take your point but I still think its the best music magazine around. Occasionally they actually interview someone or bother to write an article rather than just jizzing off about the latest indie four piece who sound exactly the same as their contemporaries, or listing things which are 'cool' or 'uncool' according to their twat farm of an office (I'm looking at you NME).

BBC Breakfast news is just the most comforting thing ever. Dermot Murnaghan is my hero. As for t'internet, I don't really read the news all that much: if I was going to have to pick one, I browse through the Guardian every now and then, but seeing as the only newspaper I read regularly is the Metro, I don't have an informed opinion...
Music news, more like speedy: I tend to check blogs. Largehearted Boy is great, and I can get an actual idea of whats going on from looking at a load of others.

people in the street, I don´t spend that much time indoors. A secondhand bookstore I go to always has BBC world service on and I don´t pay attention to the words but don´t care for the prim authoritative tone or the tense war-music they have on in the background, sounds a bit too much like Europe of 60 years ago for me.

I hate Pitchfork, although my hatred for them is probably a bit hypocritical. Their smug, pompous, oh-I'm-so-clever attitude makes it difficult to read; but I've been known to be convinced of my own cleverness in writing. I don't think I'm anywhere near as smug or pompous, though, but I know I'm not the best judge of such matters.
