This forum is why Frank Black is the only artist for whom I:
-always buy the cd -never miss a tour
Frank has been to Ottawa twice I believe, and Montreal plenty of times. I almost wish I lived in a small town just to be able to name one off. This forum is fantastic.

When you (Frank) come to my hometown in Asheville in October, I'll take you to the Biltmore Estate. It is the largest home in America you know. And they have a winery. I can show you around Asheville! Ok so maybe that would be way more fun for me since you are Frank Black and I am just the Frank Black tabmaster, but you've never played here so I figure I can show you all the hot spots. |

Frank,
My wife just had an idea I think is pretty good. The only caveat is that the show would be free (I don't know if you'd get paid).
Every summer in Santa Monica, CA, they have concerts on the pier. The king of the surf guitar, Dick Dale, played there this summer.
It's a great place to see a show when there's a good one. The place is always packed. Of course, this summer is booked, over and you're on tour already anyway. But there's always next year!

Hey Frank, Wanna play a smoky, smelly dive in Fredericksburg, VA? I would love to set something like that up. It blow this town's mind. We're about an hour south of D.C.
OK....I'm wishing here but it doesn't hurt to ask.

WOW! I'm only on page two and this is by far the best thread in this whole dam town! Only now do I wish I didn't live in chi-town so I could promote a more backwater venue. I saw a lot of dune buggies driving the country roads in Michigan recently so maybe that state has some spots (check out Turkeyville!)in need of musical rejuvenation. I would have to recommend a place called Coco Rouge which although not open yet has people gawking and salivating already. Coco Rouge is a home-spun, Sci-Fi confection/ artisan chocolatier cafe with an inner and outer world already materializing. If Stanley Kubrick and Ridley Scott had to combine aesthetics to form a storefront gourmet cafe/sweets shop...this would be it. so when you fly-by Chicago next time go on in and say hi to Jeremy and Ericka at 1940 W. Division, bring the kids and enjoy a time warp snack. and if you got photographed there people would think you were on the set of Bladerunner 2!
..'s all I got. |

AAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! I'm reading all the live acoustic tour stuff on the forum and getting severe FB live withdrawal symptoms ! I would have booked a flight to the USA this month just to see FB if I hadn't used all my holidays up at work, didn't have a wife and 2 kids and hadn't planned a Xmas trip to San Francisco to visit my bro-in-law!
COME BACK TO ENGLAND FRANK!!
ANYWHERE IN ENGLAND!
PLEEEEASSSE!
Newcastle would be good tho!

Hi, Mr. Frank!
The historic Douglass Theater in Macon, Georgia is a lovely, but very small theater. Otis Redding, Ma Rainey, James Brown, and Little Richard have been a few of its guests over the years. Just up the street is the recently renovated, also historic, and larger Cox Capitol Theater, with locally famous "Ingleside pizza" and alcohol! Macon is doing a decent job of turning around the downtown scene. You can help.
Too bad there is not a day between your 10/15 Savannah show and the 10/16 in Atlanta! (I'll see you at both.) If you get hungry that Monday near Macon, I'll buy lunch. Cracker Barrel?
Many thanks!

Interesting question. I have just the place. About 35 kilometers north east of Edmonton's Fucktarded Giant Mall (where you guys have settled on playing in November)there is a old decrepit shack that has stood there, albeit crookedly, for many decades. As children, we tried to knock it down, we even tried to burn it once, which led to our bottoms being spanked. Rumor has it that the ghost of an obsure rock n' roller sometimes emerges from the shadows to do some of that "tremelo picking" the kids enjoy and squelch an "oh yeah" or a "ooh baby", before disappearing to change his dean markleys in the netherworld. Nobody knows the identity of the ghost, only that he fucking rocks out with his weiner out, my friend. And also that he has cool rock and roll hair. Whoosh .... and then he's gone.... We could run a couple of extension chords from the nearest farmhouse and hand out free tetanus shots to the patrons (there are a lot of exposed nails and broken glass). I know how to juggle, also, so if you want I can open the show for you guys with my three and a half hour sex-travaganza of relentless, in-your-face juggling and "way over the line" sexual innuendo directed at (mostly) the young ladies in the audience. I've been told it's hardly worth living through, whatever that means.... |

You have never played in Pensacola, Florida, and I've never gotten the chance to see you live. There's this cool little vegan restaurant/ bar here called Sluggo's (www.myspace.com/sluggos), and it would probably be a perfect little dive for you to play in. There's also a place called The Handlebar. I don't personally like it as much, but it's a little bigger and could probably more easily accomodate the crowd that would certainly show up if you played here. There are lots of fans in our little music scene here. |

Hello Frank, je viens juste de lire une interview from you where you say that you love Toulouse. So when will you come back to play in our Zenith ou un autre endroit dans la ville rose? Because I saw you with the Pixies Belfort 2004, Paris 2005 and Nyon 2006, and it’s quite far depuis les bords de la Garonne. So I’m waiting for you alone ou avec les autres lutins.
A bientôt j’espère. |

Mr Frank Black, Many of us "South Sound" folks caught your show in Olympia, soley based on the announcement from this website. I was there, first time seeing you live since you played Bogarts in Cincinnati with the Pixies back in 1993. I was priveleged to see you perform in a small venue!
You were a real trooper, banging out a long straight acoustic set with an obvious sore throat. I posted a couple of videos to youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mo8YR8UacH4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klen0lf3yL0
Cool to see you playing a bar in a small town - many fans dream of seeing a big name appear in a small setting as you did! Your music permeates my soul, has been a soundtrack in my life. Keep on rockin and making meaningful music! |

Hey Chuck,
I don't think you've ever been here in my hometown Den Bosch, The Netherlands. Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham performed their only Dutch gig here two weeks ago in a venue (an old cigar factory) called W2
I'd love to welcome you here, performing in Amsterdam is such a cliché...

I just thought I'd throw in my ten cents and confirm that Willem II is a great place to play. I've played there three times or so with a punk band in the last ten years and the atmosphere is always nice. The oddly named Den (Hertogen-)Bosch (pronounced Den Boss, like an alpha male lion) is a good alternative music town it seems. Some of the best things about the venue is that the floor is tilted so the patrons in the back get a good look as well, and that they're usually filming the gigs with a couple of cameras and give the artist a copy and save one for themselves to play on 'best of' nights, which is pretty good promotion.
(Of course that shouldn't stop you from also playing the Melkweg or something...)
You've played in my town of Malmö, Sweden (at the KB) quite a lot and you managed to hurt me every single time by coming when I'm on tour myself. Moving to the UK in a few weeks: first stop Ashford, Kent, where there's a nice enough pub whose name I have forgotten, but you'd pack it sardinesque anyway; then London, to which I believe you will return, hopefully when I'm not away. And thanks for checking in on us every now and then. |

Hey Boss, props to you for your most recent successes and thanks for the extensive touring.
Notice of your Salem, Oregon shows at Guitar Castle gave me a great idea for your Nashville show on Wednesday, October 4th.
Make a phone call (either from yourself, Billy Block, or I’d be happy to) to Mike Grimes (Grimey), owner of Grimey’s Record Shop and schedule yourself an in-store show for the afternoon of October 4th.
He’s a big fan of yours. His in-stores always get good attendance. Your Mercy Lounge show that night gets free publicity (Grimey’s does a good job of advertising their in-stores), and you’ll sell a lot of tickets to the show and FM/RM cd’s as a result of your in-store.
By the way, I’ve got some more ideas for you. I’ll post them up here soon.
P.S. Our boy, Bobby Bare, Jr. will be doing his Grimey In-store on Tuesday October 3rd at 6:00 p.m., wanted to give you a heads-up if you can make it. I recommend New Hope, Pennsylvania. It's a small town on the Delaware river where a lot of artists, hippies, and gay people live/hang out in farm country. There's a place called John & Peter's where WEEN plays a lot (they're from New Hope). Perfect in between NYC & Philly. http://johnandpeters.com
Nearby is Trenton New Jersey, not the best place in the world, but they have recently opened a good venue called "the Conduit". Have you played Trenton before? http://conduitmusic.com
In Philly, the World Cafe Live is a great venue for the full band, but for solo shows I recommend The Painted Bride, the White Dog cafe, the Rotunda, First Unitarian Church, Johnny Brenda's, the Starlight Ballroom. http://www.r5productions.com

Hey Boss, while you're in Guitar Town come on down to Bobby's. Thursday night, October 5th, bring your guitar or borrow one when you get here, and sit-in on a writer's night.
Bobby’s writers night (Thursdays 6-10pm)
SON!, you know it’s going to be a good night at Bobby’s when the front parking lot is full of trucks and the pool table is full of guitars, huh…

Please come to Phoenixville, PA on your next East Coast swing. Great little town with a sweet historical theatre that celebrates the 50s sci-fi classic The Blob with a Blobfest every year.

There is a small and totally cool place in Stockholm called DEBASER! It opened a while after your last show here (in 2001).
http://www.debaser.nu/
Its in an old "systembolaget", the swedish monopoly where you buy your beers, wines and other liqours.
Even BOB DYLAN played here in 2007!!! As a warm up before the big show in The Globe arena. The tickets were sold out in a few seconds...

I got to see Mr. Francis here last night in Santa Cruz, and no shit there couldn't have been 150 people at the show. You could walk right up to the front of the stage at see the man play in all his glory. Some great asides about Bluefinger and an excellent show. Thanks for signing my stub FB!!! |

Robert Guertin in I say Gatineau you say Hull? Too big. I thought Bluefinger was smaller, more intimate venues. How big a place did you see him at in Vancouver?

About the same size as the Cabaret in Montreal, even a bit larger. Comparable to the venue we saw him in Oct 2006.
