Hey there sacred patrons!
Do you live in a city, town, or hamlet where Frank Black has never played a show? I'd like to hear about that; is there a cool club? A killer bar? A lonely little theatre? Contrary to the usual business, a musician is not ALWAYS looking for the biggest paycheck. We like to go to new places and have new experiences, go down a different road, see where showbiz might take us. By the way, I enjoy this website. While it is not affiliated with me officially, it saves me from having to get all webby and what not, and I really appreciate all of the members' participation. It does me a great service. Thank you.

Hey Chuck,
I don't think you've ever been here in my hometown Den Bosch, The Netherlands. Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham performed their only Dutch gig here two weeks ago in a venue (an old cigar factory) called W2
I'd love to welcome you here, performing in Amsterdam is such a cliché...

The only cool place I know in town is my garage. Cup of teas supplied on demand.
You played Wolverhampton (england) back in '96. That's the closest venue to me worthy of hosting your sounds. Thinking about it some more, we host a little music weekend up at Stafford Castle. Though there's not much of it left standing.

Damn this living in London business. You've definitely played here, I've seen you twice. But, I could recommend little venues? I suggest the Bush Hall in Shepherds Bush - most suitable, I think. Tanya Donelly played here a couple of years ago and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to.
Or maybe the Hope & Anchor, the Dublin Castle... I could go on. But I recommend Bush Hall bestest.

There are some good venues here in Limerick where people come to "rock out" and/or "dig" music where you could play.
If all else fails, there are some pretty big fields around where i live. Open-air an option?

Where in Birmingham though? a lot of the good venues aren't good anymore. The carling academy is just shocking (I saw FB&TC's there a few years ago and they had been crammed into the little side bar at the top - my friend and I had to sit on a table far away from the stage along the balcony just to get decent sound before I humiliated myself by falling off my chair - stupid high bistro tables).
Maybe the custard factory? That's pretty nice.
[EDIT] Londons good though. Just remembered I don't live in Birmingham any more, heh.

I live in Salisbury, Maryland on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake. No swell places to play here, but Ocean City is nearby with all sorts of small venues and in Dewey Beach, Delaware is a place called the Bottle and Cork.
I tried and tried to find a decent picture of the place, so I will settle for a nice beach shot to entice you. And, don't worry, I'm one of those people who have to use sunblock 45, as I suspect you do...and I am still as pasty-white as always! Anywho the water is warm in the summer, a far cry from Oregon's sea lion haven.
Come for a visit!

The Westchester County Center is a pretty cool Art Deco venue. Just north of Manhattan.

I don't think you've ever played the Nouveau Casino in Paris. Café de la Danse is nice too, you've been there in 1995 if the gigography is correct.

We've had the pleasure of FB twice here in Saskatoon, once with the Catholics and once with the Pixies, but we'd gladly have more. The venues you played are sort of mediocre (Louis) and really poor but big (Wheatland), but there are places like Amigos Cantina that is a cool little indie Mexican restaurant/lounge/venue. They're very good to local bands and also host acts like Mike Watt, the New Pornographers/AC Newman, Calexico, and plenty of other established people, too.

Please play Edinburgh (again). However, for a new venue in Scotland I would suggest Skye, the Western Isles or the Northern Isles. What has the expense of such a gig got to do with it?! Gigs in these places are always mobbed as the patrons tend to be starved of such events. A gig in the western or northern isles could always coincide with the folk, country and celtic festivals too.

In a similar vein to Ten Percenter, it would be fantastic if you came to the West Highlands of Scotland.....specifically Oban. I remember you talking to Jonathan Ross on his radio show about driving through Glencoe....just hang a left before you get there (if you're coming from Glasgow). As Ten Percenter says, we're starved of events like that, and people flock to them.....there is a music festival up here too to happily coincide with if needed.
Or come to the village 12 miles away from Oban called Taynuilt. The Village Hall can hold about 150 people. I can't begin to imagine how amazing that would be.
Failing that, Edinburgh/Glasgow again would also be great :)

Things of historical semi-passing-interest? Sure!
- Tim Ryan, the inventor of Five Pin Bowling, was a Guelph resident.
- The jock strap was invented here... created by Guelph Elastic Hosiery (now Protexion Industries) in the 1920s. The company held a contest to name the product and jock strap was the winning name. The prize was five dollars.
- Colonel John McCrae, who wrote the poem "In Flanders Fields" was born and raised in Guelph.
- Home to Sleeman's Brewery - a fine premium beer company.
By car, Guelph is 50mins from the Pearson Intl Airport, 1:30hrs from downtown Toronto, and 8hrs from Chicago...
One our finer venues is the Albion Hotel (est. 1856), which is located right across from the church seen in the above picture. It's a classic old building with a 200 person capasity (upstairs), cold hoegaarden on tap, and great food.

Nope. Brewed in Guelph since 1850 or so, minus the few decades they were shut down for bootleggin to the States during prohibition. Unfortunately, the company is currently selling itself to one of the big boys cuz they can't compete with the buck-a-beer deals going on. Too bad.. |

Frank as far as I know, you've never played the bright lights of my hometown Blackpool, a small seaside resort in the North of England. Britain's answer to vegas, Blackpool is the entertainment capital of the UK.
Blackpool is home to world famous tourist attractions Blackpool Tower, Blackpool Pleasure Beach Amusement Park, Blackpool Zoo, Blackpool Sandcastle, The Sea Life Centre, and Louis Tussaud's Waxworks, aswell as a number of golden beaches, promenades, piers, amusement arcades, bars and cafes. Blackpool is fun for all the family, bring them along for a ride on Blackpool's world famous trams, or take them to the beach for an ice cream and a ride on a Blackpool donkey.
Blackpool is Britains ultimate holiday destination, think about it, 11 million tourists a year can't be wrong.
Blackpool is also home to The Blackpool Empress Ballroom at the Winter Gardens. I recently saw Radiohead there and I can assure you it is an excellent concert venue, about 3000 capacity and by day it serves as a ballroom so it is very ornate. The Strokes, Placebo and The White Stripes have also played there in recent years.

It's not terribly exotic, but you should check out The Palms Playhouse in Winters, CA. It's about 10 minutes west of Davis (an hour east of Berkeley).
It's an opera house that got converted to a modern venue when the original Palms in Davis (an old barn) got paved over for an apartment building. They get regular national acts. Typically they're bluegrass, folky, or blues, but rock shows do show up. There's a great steak place with a real bar (The Buckhorn) right across the street.

Anywhere in the North of England would be good for me... there's a good club in my hometown Carlisle called the Brickyard that a lot of good bands have played, probably has a capacity of about 500. If not there... then Newcastle, Manchester, or Leeds would be lovely... I saw Graham Coxon in a tiny little venue under Leeds railway station a few months ago called the Blank Canvas which was great.

You could play the Pixie hotel, very fitting for a solo show..
Heres the locals enjoying a dip last summer..
We've had a local "ROX" music festival ever summer, here's the ABBA tribute headlining a few years ago.. no wait..
C'mon, I'll even pay for a ride on the blue rocket ship..

I live about an hour southwest of Nashville in a small town called Hohenwald (close enough for your Nashville fans to participate). My uncle owns a bar in our little town and frequently has live music acts - you'd be great there! October is a great time to visit our town. There's Octoberfest, there's my birthday, there's the Natchez Trace (beautiful when the leaves are changing, has historic interest...)
OR...You could do a show in Centerville, Tennessee (a neighboring town closer to Nashville) as CHARLES THOMPSON. Everyone in Centerville knows who Charles Thompson is...There's a Charlie Thompson Bridge and my workplace even has something called the "Charlie Thompson Fund" for assistance to the poor. |

Charles I have the perfect place (and you won't have to travel too far)!!!
Mac's Place in Silverton, Oregon. It is a beautiful quiet town with HUGE spirit. Built in 1880, Mac's Place is the oldest building on the Silverton National Historic Registry. The building survived the fire of 1885 and was the only building downtown to survive the fire of 1934.
With spirit like that and a community that keeps live music alive there (for such a small place they are still able to bring in fairly big names)....how can you not play a show at Mac's?
