OK, searching through the forum I noticed we've already had a similar topic a couple of years ago, but who cares. What's your favorite guitar solo in the whole FB discography?
This will change everyday, but my favorite for today is the end solo of Fazer Eyes. Nothing really spectacular but I love it. I wish it wouldn't fade.

I've gotta say that the solo in End of Miles rocks my socks. Speaking of which, the number of times I've listened to this song in the past two weeks is ludicrous.

I really love the solo in All My Ghosts, but the fact that I love the song live, when a totally different solo is often played in it (I've never heard two the same), probably means that the solo doesn't matter much as it's just a great song whatever. Anyway, I love solo on the album version.

I like the solo at the end of Thalassocracy too. Short and sweet.

Like you said, this changes daily but the first solos that come to mind at the moment......uuuummmmmmm.... guitar/piano solo in nadine, the one at the start of steak 'n' sabre, the second one on Don't know how you went so far, Solid Gold, I burn Today,.... This could be a long list sorry I can't pick just one.

Skeleton Man, 1826, the sax solo on The Snake, and pretty much every solo off TOTY.

LOVIN the farewell bend solo right now. The weird, angular phrasing is just killer.

The end solo on Fazer Eyes is pretty great, but the first song that comes to mind is Calistan. The ending on that song is so thrilling and it's all because of the end solo. Really Amazing. I guess it's Lyle Workman playing on both songs?

I'm not a big fan of solos in general but Lyle's are pretty good.
Calistan has to be one of my fave.
Simple but brilliant.

i dont like a lot of the catholics solos just because a lot of them sound like they're just pissing around in a certain key, not much structure to it and not at all reproducable.

Yeah, exactly. Even though I think the solos sound great it doesn't seem there's alot of thought been put into them. Probably part of the spontaneity of the live recording process, which in some ways I like.

So hard to make things out

that song is so guitar heavy, and it sounds so much like Rich Gilbert live. Listen to it now!

You know, when Pistolero was released part of the reason why I didn't like it was the guitar solos. I mean, the ones in I Love Your Brain are ugly. Since then I've seen Rich live several times and I love what he does but I'm not a fan of what he did on some songs on Pistolero.

Yes to whom ever said End of Miles. I've been playing guitar for over 20 years (officialy making me a guitar solo authority!) and I gotta say that that one is probably in my top three faves out of any player. Nothing too fancy but all the feeling in the world and pretty damn near perfect in my opinion. Most of Lyle's shit is great but my faves of his are probably Solid Gold and I really like the one in King and Queen of Siam with that vibrato effect. Oh and the playfulness of the one in 666. Good topic vilainde.

I Love Your Brain as well, I'm going to listen to that when I go home. Really loud, and scare my neighbors by attempting to 'sing' along. You fuckers in Mountjoy have been warned.

i would go for "solid gold". thalla is cool, too.

in fact, lyle is the solo man. as much as i like the later catholics sound, the solos on teenager, cult and fb&tc are the best.

No one mentioned my namesake...The Vanishing Spies from TOTY. go back and listen to thank guitar solo. Not only is it the best on a Frank album, it may be the best solo of all time!

It is artful and symmetrical and perfect and ends the song perfectly. Someone mentioned this earlier but...booooo to songs that fade out. i know Frank does it occassionally but I I overlook that. A band needs to know how to end a song...
