I like the idea but only if Murray got on board, I'm not sure it'll work otherwise.

I don't understand why Murray won't do a third Ghostbusters movie. He did Garfield for fucks sake!

I thought Murray doing Garfield was kinda cool.
Lorenzo Music voiced Garfield (cartoon series/network specials) and Peter Venkman (The Real Ghostbusters)
Murray voiced Garfield (motion picture) and played Venkman in the GB films.
Little switcharoo.

In 1997 there were plans to make Ghostbusters 3, which was to be about Ray and his exploits in training a new team. Chris Farley was going to play one of these new Ghostbusters, but after he died Aykroyd had trouble trying to find a replacement, and the studio ended up scrapping the project altogether.
Some more info:
quote: The script outline Dan Aykroyd (the strongest proponent of the project) and Harold Ramis were working on featured Ray, Egon, and Winston (referred to as "Dr. Zeddemore") as mentors to a younger team that one reviewer derided as "bland and interchangeable": Franky, a body peircing New Jersey punker; Lovell, a dread-locked dude; Moira, a pretty but uptight gymnast and science major; Carla, a Latino beauty; and Nat, a prepubescent genius with a large cranium. Bill Murray might or might not have appeared -- in one draft, he apparently dies in an early scene and Peter is a ghost for the rest of the movie. Dana Barrett isn't even referred to, and Janine and Louis would appear in cameos near the end (knowing Harold Ramis's inexplicable hostility to the Egon/Janine dynamic, that's probably a conspicuously bad placement). Chris Farley was attached to the project before his untimely death. The main plot of Ghostbusters 3: Heckbent would've featured the Lord of Heck dealing with the overcrowding issue by shipping undesireables to New York City.
Thankfully, it looks like most of this has been scrapped, barring the Hell/Heck element.
Good God, I still can't believe they were planning on introducting a new Ghostbusters team that would have been akin to the Power Rangers.
Bummed that Murray doesn't want in for this much improved version, but I wouldn't mind Stiller.

Yeah, I read inteviews with Ramis, I think, and Rick Moranis a little while ago, and heard about these proposed ideas for a new movie. Without Murray, forget it.

They should just give Murray a shit load of money. That's how most actors get back on board with sequels.

Agreed.
I'd hate the film to be made and not live up to expectations. I think I'd rather them just not make the film and leave the legacy alone! I don't think it would be as good as the first two films anyway, especially not Ghostbusters 2.
And Carl, you crack me up

I've only ever seen bits of Ghostbusters 2. It seems to be regarded as a good sequel.

Why bother making another tired and pointless sequel which will do nothing but taint the good name of the first two movies?
Oh yeah I forgot, its so they can make a fat wad of cash.

Does this mean Ray Parker Jr. will be gracing us with more of his musical ingenuity?

They have definitely waited too long to do a third film.
I personally wouldn't want there to be a "new" Ghostbusters team; they would have to reunite the entire cast to successfully do a third film. I could concievably see a third film about them as older guys, maybe Peter and Dana Barrett have gotten married and have a kid, etc., but I would never in a million years want them to attach the label "Ghostbuster" to Freddie Prince Jr. wearing a proton pack.
Too bad they won't make the sequel starring these guys:

What's funny is the guy who did the voice of Peter Venkman in The Real Ghostbusters also did the voice of Garfield in the cartoon of Garfield, while Bill Murray did the voice of Garfield in the movie...and in it's forthcoming sequel, I think!

I liked Harold Ramis in the Ghostbuster movies, and ( though I didn't see the whole movie ) "Stripes".
The first time I saw "Orange County" I saw his name in the closing credits, and didn't realize till I saw it again that he played the guy that accidently takes the Ecstacy- it was weird seeing him so old ( plus all the weight he put on ).

Yeah, when I saw Ramis in "What About Bob?" I was pretty shocked. (that was '94 or so?)
Wonder if Ramis and Ackroyd's weight would figure in? You'd think that two decades of ghostbustin' would keep you fairly fit.

Yeah, HKP rules! What a cool voice, too (Scatman Crothers, from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and The Shining!). Apparently, there's a live-action movie in the works!

Man, some lazy relative got me some of those books for my birthday when I were a nipper! I was so distraught.
I vote NO on GB3. Terrible idea, I wish people would stop pissing on good films by bringing out questionable sequels years after the fact.. Blues Brothers 2000, Terminator 3.. And I have a sneaking suspicion that Clerks 2 will be less than good as well.
And..BEN STILLER? Wtf. The chump isn't fit to polish Venkman's proton accellerator (ooh err missus), let alone play the legend.

I think Bill Murray might do it it he had'nt spent almost the last decade having a very successful time doing comedy dramas.
