If they're flying insects I quite like to use a squash or badminton racket - fairly decisive, but the downside is sometimes you've got multiple parts to clean up. An empty Kleenex box is good too, if you swing it hard enough with the hole towards the insect, it'll stun/kill it, while making it easy to dispose of.
For non-flying insects, boiling water is pretty good.
What's yours?

To kill flies, wasps and mosquitos I like a rag, or a flip flop. If I have want to be cruel, I also like to catch them in an empty glass and close it with a paper sheet, then i put the glass in the sink, turn on the hot water and fill slowly the glass.
Non flying insects: a lighter is funny but boiling water is good too. |

My brother used to like to pour salt on slugs, and pull off just one wing of various insects and watch them try to fly.

The electric flyswatter is no good because it takes a strong strong person not to zap themselves or their wives... Those freaking things hurt like a damn.

boiling water, that's hilarious. so cruel yet so effective.
I once poured a salt ring around a slug, more of a psycological approach to death. It's come back to haunt me tenfold. |

if you want to kill a bunch of ants but don't want to spray poisonous chemicals in your house, Windex® is a good alternative.

And Nia Vardalos' father, Floop?
I don't really go out of my way to torture insects, just don't like it, but hey, when they're on my turf, they die.

If a flying insect gets into the house I just try to guide it out of a window or door.
Crawling insects get scooped up and sat outside.
No joy or amusement in killing something.

Ha, floop! I was actually debating how to type the language of miyagi. "fry" was definately up there with "fwy". Down my local Take-Away "fry" (not to be confused with "fly") is "fwaa", as in "egg fwaa waa". |

I remember in my sadistic youth I used to burn lots of insects to death with a magnifying glass, I feel kind of bad about that now. I once managed to trap a wasp in a cassette box, and then submerged it in water for hours, trying to drown it. It survived.
I like the salt ring, evil.

I had a friend who'd catch the spiders in his room and put them in a plastic see-thru container. Then he'd catch moths and feed them to the spider. During the spider's captivity, it would be subjected to nightly "smoke box" rituals.
I'm trying to think if it was the moths or spiders he used burn with a magnifying glass. Weird boy. |

Actually my fave method is my cat. She'll eat any insect. I just hold her up and point her towards it until she locks on and then I let her go.

I was doing the magnifying glass thing to with ants, but I was ashamed to say it . It was funnier than with a lighter, the ant had its chance to escape. |

We used to get loads of slugs in the kitchen of my dads old house, when he got in from a drinking session he would take the lid of the bin, line it with newspaper and dump all the slugs on top of the paper, he'd then sort of shake salt like rainfall all over them until they were a pile of goo.
I dissected a snail once, inside was all green and purple and orange. They have a penis twice the length of their body, an anal cavity on top of their head and shoot love darts while mating to decide who gets to be butch and who gets to be bitch. This was a science thing though, not for fun.
Not that I'm saying it wasn't fun.
About a week after I did this at uni I went back down to visit the ex in Oxford to see FB play at the zodiac. We were going with a friend of his from uni and her husband who was an animal rights kind of guy. He asked me if we did dissection at uni and I thought I'd be safe with the snail story but noooooo.
