2007 (from billy) Catégorie : Music
"Dear Beautiful Souls,
Happy New Year to you! May 2007 prove to be a blessed year in every respect and every way...I send you every ounce of love I have in my heart...May the grace of Mother be with you...This year for us will see a new album of songs and a world tour of tears, and we truly look forward to playing again for fans young, old, and missed...So yes, tunes are being dusted off, while others are being asked to kindly submit to an upstart millennia and all it's asking...In our daily prayers, we send out the signal that all who should hear us come forward and be seen, and by extension, heard...when we opened the lid on this music box, we were pleasantly suprised at the music that played: familiar yet unknown, welcoming but not sentimental...and that is all we can ask...God has absolutely blessed us in every respect...for many years there were private laments about opportunities missed and hearts so broken, but no more...we have turned the page and moved on, from places and faces, names and games...this age calls for resolve and certitude, and the fire within to burn ever bright...if that fire should be connected to absolutely deafening guitars, thundering drums, and the melodies of snakes, then so be it! We love you! If you are meant to be with us, find us!! We have need, and our arms are ever-open...although I can say definitively we don't need jugglers...but we do need ???? (what?) what do we need! With a smile and a wink, billy corgan"

They are now playing the Primavera Festival in Barca too. Looks like I'm finally gonna see them.
I'm sure my girlfriend will keep telling me how they were so much better on the Siamese Dream tour.

That little "Beautiful Soul" statement reminds me of some aimless drivel Perry Farrell would come up with. I get the feeling that he takes them Pumpkininny tunes a little too seriously. Go forth and save the world Billy!!!

So has there been any announcement of what exactly the line up of the reunion is going to be?

You know the best things in life are free, but you can keep them for the birds and bees. I want money. That's what I want. That's what I want. That's what I want.
That's what I want.
Now give me money. |

THE SKINNY ON MUSIC COURTNEY DEVORES Skinny on Music| Is Pumpkins visit a reunion?
The Smashing Pumpkins' nine-night residency at The Orange Peel in Asheville begins Saturday.
Tickets to the shows -- Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, June 29 and 30, and July 2, 3 and 5 -- sold out in three minutes. And as with Tom Waits' Asheville show last August, promoters are making it difficult for scalpers: Buyers have to pick up their tickets and immediately enter the venue.
Still, some enterprising folks are selling single tickets (face value: $20) on eBay for upwards of $300 and offering to meet the buyer at the venue. Personally, I wouldn't be able to justify buying a $300 scalped ticket unless the show were going to include guitarist James Iha and either female bassist D'Arcy or Melissa Auf der Maur (it won't).
Don't get me wrong. There's certainly no crime against Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin continuing under the Pumpkins' name. And I'm sure next month's "Zeitgeist" will fit snugly into the Pumpkins' catalog.
But calling this a reunion is a bit of an exaggeration.
Last week, my former editor argued that Corgan is Smashing Pumpkins. From a creative standpoint, it's true -- he's the voice, the writer, and the defining thread. But D'Arcy and Iha were household names, as visible as Corgan back when the band's videos flooded MTV.
(I mean, would I have driven cross-country for a Pixies' reunion that featured only Black Francis and David Lovering? I think not.)
When the shows were announced, I think I was more excited about the validation the booking gives North Carolina than I was about seeing the Pumpkins again.
Instead of Atlanta or New York or even Philly, they chose Asheville. That's the coolest part.
Whether you go or not, get all the info at www.smasheville.com. |
