Wow, just got back from a show with these guys and Chet (who I really didn't like, the singer was too into himself and in love with his voice/falsetto) and just excellent. Anyone else heard either of these bands before? I think they're quite small, so probably not, but you never know. RCR is amazing, just two guys, one of whom is probably playing drums, singing, and playing keyboards simultaneously at any given time. They completely switch everything, I guess they lost a member on tour and had to learn to do that guy's parts and their own and while I think I'd like to see them with more people, I really was impressed that it was only two guys.

I was at the show for RCR (based on the strength of Sportscars, the only song I'd heard at that point), but I also was really impressed with Shapes & Sizes, whom I'd never heard of at all. Good sense of dynamics, they really played well together and I bought their CD on a whim. I can't recommend a particular song because I don't know any names, but here's their site:

Anyway, enjoyed the concert and wanted to pass along the tunage to you kids. For those in the CD mix with me, I already have an RCR song in there, but, well, just on that post-show buzz.

I'm looking forward to the Run Chico Run track on your mix. Can you give us a little more info on what the bands sound like?

Well, Run Chico Run, hmm... used to play with The Unicorns. Dark pop of that variety, but they're not quite so out there or fixated on death. Think of really low organ used in lieu of a bass. Really good hooks, they get deeper and deeper everytime.
Shapes And Sizes, harder to say. They're just an indie rock band with a good sense of dynamics and lots of harmonies. A good rock/pop blend I guess. I'm curious how they'll sound on the CD, don't really have a good way of listening at work.

Simon, give them a listen, I don't think that they'll annoy you in that way. Chico, I mean. That's basically the element removed from them. Not so out there. I just have no one else to liken them to.
I personally love the Unicorns, but I can understand how people would hate them too. I was kind of taken aback at first listen to their record but it's got a lot of good stuff in it once you get past the singing/oddness. Which then becomes part of their charm.
Yann, I don't think it's local to here. Didn't know it had French roots.
