I don't think pong is the same issue because it's not a discussion forum, it's a game forum. Saying that maybe word association is a bit meh and embarassing, but the others are fine I think.

And the post counts aren't increased in the pong section.

I don't think it can be done for individual threads and it still doesn't solve the problem of the size and nature of the threads and their impact on the forum.

I think we should delete the "Pictures of Beautiful Men" thread, and replace it with another one in which instead of relying on the physical characteristics of a man to make him beautiful... you'd tell us in your words something that you find beautiful in a man you know.

Can't you just move all the enormous threads into 'Whatever Happened To Pong?' (changing the name obviously) so a) it doesn't increase post count and b) it doesn't clutter up General Chat. |

But is it going to solve the problem of lack of discussion? the post count is a minor issue really I think, the bigger issue is the slow down and the lack of conversational substance. If there are these big threads still available to post personal statements that rarely invite discussion then the problem is still there. These threads aren't games so they don't belong in pong. At best some of them are little more than shopping lists.
In my not so humble opinion that is.

Delete them all, if only for the fun of it. I'm sure they'll resurface in time. Please start with the 'Ask Ourselves A Question' thread. Can you make a decision today so we don't all just talk a good talk (see forum song and project threads).
For the record, i've just had a glass of orange juice and a croissant. |

I am not against some sort of Mod interventionism. There are have been few topics with real content lately. Animal cruelty was a great topic - with people really trying to develop their opinions.

Just delete them, I doubt anyone is going to be too upset. I post in alot of the pointless ones simply because I'm bored. Who knows, maybe if they're not there I'll develop a more worthwhile hobby than posting random nonsense in a ridiculously large thread.
Just get rid of them. The worst thing that could happen is that over time they come back. And if that happens...delete them again!

I think this is pretty much all in favour. I still say leave one though, otherwise I think you may live to regret it with lots of stupid topics started every day by people determined to let everyone know that they had cheese on toast. We did have a period where that happened anyway and a lot of people complained about it. Or it may add to derailing (not something I think is a huge problem, but some people rank it alongisde genocide).

See Homers, i don't know if we need a 'catch-all blabbering thread' - its like my office. I used to keep a little box of chocolates and snacks in there for when people walked in. "Hi boss! Care for a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup?" And people would eat them because i was offering. Once i stopped offering, after 2, 3 days, people realized i was no longer the candy man, and we all moved on.
I would hope that if we eliminated all those threads, after a few days, the rambling would cease, or would move to a place like a chat room (we still have the soulseek one, right?) or personal email. Plus, some silly threads could be fun once and awhile.

Yeah, I'm not too concerned about the post counts (maybe this is because I can make mine whatever I want now). :) It certainly seems to be all-in-favour, so I will do this tonight hopefully. Or Tre/Brian, if you want to have at it, please do.

locked or deleted? it would absolutely be my pleasure!
Shall I just assume locked for now? I suppose that leaves it open for mind changing at later dates. On the flip side it leaves it open for mind changing at later dates.

You should change the post counts to the per-day average (like it shows on our profiles).

That could be frightening. :)
Locking's fine for now I think, tempted though I am to encourage deletion. They'll trickle out of the way sooner or later.

Dean, why don't we move the Hey/You Ain't Me stuff to the Salon, and i think the "what's going on" thread is outdated too. I'm w/ Dayanara

I only use the "Active Threads" link and never see the stickies. But now that I look at them, I am offended. |

I wasn't really telling you to lock all the threads, tre. I just checked which threads you had already closed and I had a laugh at seeing the "Suck" thread was still there.

I think we can move stickies Tre... (we may have to unsticky them first though)

Brian, I think the problem is as lowly mods we can't unsticky things that have been stickied by an admin (I just tried)

i don't see the reasoning behind locking some of these threads (like the movie thread or the gig thread) but you kids have at it...

i'd like to add that i think the reasoning behind (some) of them doesn't make sense. i personally enjoyed reading the movie thread. seeing what other people are watching, getting recommendations etc..
now you're going to see the forum flooded with more topics and then have a bunch of people bitch that discussion should be contained in less threads
