After I read superabound's awesome topic, and with darwin's coaching experience, it's reminded of my when I played little league and how awesome I was at little league sports. I think it would be cool to share our experiences in little league. Come on, post something.
Soccer
I was about 5 or 6 when I joined my first league, it had enough kids for 4 teams. I had never played in my life and had no clue what was going on. I was just staring at my dad the whole time. After they picked the 4 teams, (still don't know how they did that because team selections would piss me off for years), then you had to choose a name. The name everyone wanted was Panthers. I can't remember the other 3 but they were the same every year apparently. Maybe the Jaguars, the Blazers and the Lightning Bolts. The worst team name I have has was Kibbles and Bits, and it was me and my freind's idea.
Lacrosse
I played defence and I was the littlest kid on the field. I couldn't push anyone around so I learned how to slash really well. I pretty much suck but almost every game I would knock my man's stick out of his hands really fucking hard and all the team would cheer because they were are huge and good and I was little dude.
I think I could go on for about 20 pages.

When I was about 8 years old, we moved down to England, and somehow I managed to joing the cubs (think Scouts, but younger) football team. I don't think I ever went to the cub nights, maybe once, but played for the team every week. We were the worst team in the league by a mile, and when I joined hadn't won or drawn for a year. Sadly, no fairy tale here, this losing run continued for about another 18 months (during which I played in goals once and let in 19 goals). Then one day, against a team called Hedgerley I think, we won. 3-1. Amazing, the joy, the jumping up and down. I think we won our next game as well.

I used to play for the school football team in our annus mirabilis: we beat every other school except Compton, and no-one beats Compton. We got off lightly at 5-1. They had a dodgy pitch and beat everyone, so they were very much the Chelsea of their day. I played centre of defence, the 'chopper', if you like. Ah, I can look back with fondness the day that both myself and my younger brother (on the left) scored. In our own goal mind, but that's not the point. We kicked some behind.

Admire the hard work lonely p. I bet that takes a lot of time and effort. Good luck with it. My soccer teams as a kid: we were always average up until I played for the Sharks when I was like 11. We had the best team (or thought we did) and went undefeated until the championship game where we lost to a team we had destroyed earlier in the season. I was always fullback: lacked the offensive firepower that my son possesses (haha) but it was great fun.
My little league baseball holds a soft spot in my heart because as a kid over here I always dreamt of being a major leaguer and would sleep with my glove under the bed, soaked in gloveoleum to help break it in, etc. And my dad loved baseball and we would listen to the Rangers baseball games at night on the little transistor radio while walking the dog. Ahhh, good memories.

This is what I like about you, Cheesy -- we at fb.net are constantly discovering how multi-dimensional you are. We thought you grew up in England but it turns out you're, to quote your homie Andre Young, "from the streets of Compton."

Today is actually National Little League Opening Day.
My friend Jamie once hit me in the back and in the head with his 'fastball' in 4th grade, in the same game. I never played again.
Sob, sob.
I'd like to join a softball team, but i can't find one where i won't be by far the youngest person.

Track/Cross Country
I was 2 time champion of the Fun Run, a one mile run of kids under 12. When I was 12 I raced in the 5k. I won my division because I was the youngest competitor. The only time I ever made the local news was when they showed me going through the finishline. There was no one around. None of those other kids knew how to run. They were more into snacks at that time. That was the last time racing competively sounded like fun. Now I rule the snack world. I could go on for 7 pages.

I was the penalty taker for the school football team (age 9) and the first penalty I ever took in anger I mishit it. However, because we were so young it actually lobbed the goalkeeper and I scored and everything was great. The next time we played the same team we got another penalty - I remembered this, and thought, I know, I'll try and chip the goalie. It went miles over the bar :( I was absolutely gutted.

i remember when i was about 14 me and my friend Tommy were riding our bikes by this field where a bunch of little kids were practicing for Little League. This one kid (probably 8 years old) said "hey, cool bike" to Tommy and Tommy said "who asked you, retard?" and then we jumped off our bikes and Tommy pushed him in a mud puddle and he started crying. then we took his sack lunch and got back on our bikes, eating the food as we left (peanut butter sandwich, capri sun, oreos)..
that was a fun day

-Under 9's League Cup Winner (4 goals that season) -Under 16's: Promoted to First Division (10 goals that season)
Well okay it's not a very long list, but I'm still pretty damn proud! It almost brings a tear to my eye. Almost...

I used to play for a local team who were absolutely dreadfull. Then they disbanded and me and my pal tried to reform them, with him as manager, even though he was only 16. We basically drafted in all our pals and nobody had a clue how to manage. We ended up losing EVERY game on the season. We didn't earn a single point. Our best result was losing 3-1 and our worst result was losing 16-2. The moral of the story was you don't need to win to enjoy playing sports. And I walked away with Our Ladys under 18 player of the season award. Ah memories......
