First half of the film I felt the way kitty did: nothing happening. By the end I thought it was a good film. |

I don't know that I LOVED it or anything, but I'd say it's definitely a good film.

A movie starring Bill Murray can't be a bad movie.

Yes, Bill Murray was good in this one. I really liked the film. Just too much hype.

I think that directors/writers etc have the right to make whatever films they like, whether they be arty indulgent tosh or steven seagal trash. I think with Lost in Translation, for me anyway, there was nothing to take away from it. I watched it and it served its purpose, I didnt think about it for hours afterwards, there was nothing to think about. It was the same watching sin city, the movie served its purpose. Thought provoking not really. Entertaining...certainly. I have no opinion whether I like them or not, they are what they are, they serve their purpose then theyre just throwaway trash for the mind. |

I really liked it-I dont see why its seen as arty though-no real underlying messages from what i can see, the storyline felt apathetic like the lead characters-nothing was happening in their lives thats why they latched on to each other, and i enjoyed watching that, it was simple and quite beautiful. |

I think it is thought provoking. Many women (not all) seem to really like the movie. Why is that? Do women respond positively to the older man, younger woman theme? Is there something about Murray's character that makes him appealing (or is just Bill Murray that is appealing)? Would it have been less appealing to women if two main characters had slept with each other? |

I really liked the movie. And not because it had the older man, younger woman theme. What appealed to me most is the obvious touch of a female director (though I could see floop taking exception with such a statement). I like how lushly it was filmed. I didn't find Bill Murray's character particularly appealing. What I liked the most was Scarlett whose last name I can't spell correctly. I found her so adorable in a, for me, non-sexual way. She totally made the movie for me.
And, yeah, older men are hot hot hot. But the relationship portrayed in the movie didn't strike me as particularly sexual. For one thing, he seemed more interested in moping and having his little midlife crisis than in nailing the woman.
I got some heaven in my head

i thought, before i saw it, that i would hate it. i didn't like johannson or coppola's previous stuff, i just went to it to see bill murray. i kinda liked it. it was nice. it kind of gave a sense of security. i have no idea how. plus it has the best soundtrack ever. when they were in the taxi during 'sometimes'! magic. soooooooo... good movie. |

Good film and the fact some people don't like it makes it better than good! |
