HARRY NILSSON. DAVID LOWERY. GUY PICCIOTO. ISAAC BROCK.
FB's voice never propelled my love for him in any way. I thought it very unremarkable. Nasally and just kinda bland. Granted, in his heyday with Pixies, he had an interesting way of juxtaposing beautiful high vocals with eerie screaming and fear. "The Happening" is a great example. However, his voice alone is nothing special.
His vocals on the "Where Is My Mind?" from Frank Black Francis I really do like, though. Mature and resonant. Calm. Definitely his finest recorded vocal performance. |

therewererumours, where in Ireland do you live? I love Ireland and wanna move there when I'm rich. I went there twice: once w/ my Dad to visit family on Inishbofin on the northwest coast, and the second time hitchhiking w/ my ex-girlfriend who was from Limerick-we went to Galway, Cliften, and Inishbofin again, and then down to Cork to stay with her friends and to see my friend Sean. Somewhere on the road from the airport to Galway, there's an area that's wide open, just hills and sheep- that's where I'm gonna build my house.

Some excellent names above... a couple of additions from a longtime lurker:
Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Ian Astbury (The Cult) and (dare I say it) Chris Rea. |

Jeff "fuck a duck" Buckley is technically the best, and also has great character, but ignoring technical ability and basing it solely on character I would say Frank Black or Kurt Cobain. |

I thought of another one who should be on the list - despite what you might think of him and his family, Ozzy Ozbourne definately has a voice that rock will not forget.

I am sure another guy sang lead on a couple. The keyboard player sang and the guitarist did too. They all look similar from afar though and they swap instruments so maybe I am confused.

nah, jonsi is the lead singer in the band and sings all the songs. the others will sing backup. they don't really swap instruments much, but on songs like vaka, jonsi's playing keyboards instead of guitar...

Another name missing from this list is Elvis Costello. Elvis Costello, damn it. Some people can't stand his voice, but I think he has such a distinct, solid sound. And if you've seen him live, he'll blow you away even more. A couple days ago a friend and I were trying to determine whether Frank or Elvis Costello had a better voice. We agreed that Frank's was more dynamic, but Elvis was way, way up there in amazingness.
