Arsenal will be lucky to beat Juventus, with Patrick Viera putting his former club to the sword Lyon look pretty good at the moment, but so do AC Milan with their demolition of Bayern. I fancy Lyon to win for some reason
It's hard to see past the winner of the Inter/Ajax game going through to the semi's, probably Inter as Ajax's league form is poor.
Barcelona to stuff Benfica, despite Benfica's good run.
Then, Juventus to beat Inter in semi and Barcelona to beat Lyon.
Barcelona to win final

Sounds good, except I'm going for Arsenal. Any opinion on Ireland/Scotland and France-England this weekend, while you're here?

Um, the heart says Scotland, but the head says Ireland. It is at Lansdowne road. Probably a close game, especially if we keep 15 players on the pitch.
In the battle of those vanquished by the Scots, I'd have thought England will win. France just don't seem to be playing with the same flair as before. If they don't keep their discipline, England could run through them. But saying that, France can probably beat anyone on their day.
So, Ireland, England, and Wales will beat Italy. That's them jinxed.

It was nice to see Arsenal shut down Real Madrid, even better was Chelsea falling. A Barca-Arsenal final would be a treat...

I wouldn't write off Villarreal to progress. I can see them beating Inter, however I doubt they will go further than the semi's especially with Barca, Milan, Juve all likely to progress. |

I'm trying my best to imagine a scenario in which Benfica wins the tie, but it's almost impossible. The only advantage Benfica has at the moment is that Puyol and Messi won't play the first leg. Puyol is one of the most important players in the Barça team, so maybe we can score one goal in our stadium.
The problem is the away goals, and it's difficult to see Barcelona not scoring in Lisbon. How can our defenders stop guys like Eto'o and Ronaldinho? Our defense did pretty well against Liverpool, only because their attackers are not very quick. Our team has made Benfica proud, though. Still, Barça or Milan to win it, with Lyon as the outsider. |

I'll go for Juve, Inter, Barca and my, the last one is a tough one. I'll go with Lyon to be the surprise but that really could go either way.

I didn't see it, had to go down to Glasgow for the day. By all accounts our line-outs were terrible and that accounted for the loss. Don't know if there were other contributing factors.
That leaves France needing to beat Wales in Cardiff to win.....not easy I think, though probable. Although, Ireland beating England by 30+ points would see them win. If Scotland beat Italy by over 60 points, we'll be champions :)

It's a shame that no german team made it to the qarter finals this year. If only Tim Wiese hadn't let the ball slide out of his arms two minutes from the end against Juve...
Ok. I think Inter will beat Ajax tomorrow and then Villareal afterwards. There's no way that Arsenal can beat Juve right now. Bearcelona over Benfica for sure. And then... That's a tough one. Lyon. Can't say why, though. (maybe too many italian teams in the semis otherwise)
So basically I go for the same teams as HPM. |

Definitely!
And so far everyone sticks to the plan: Inter did beat Ajax 1:0 tonight with a goal from Stankovic. |

I think Arsenal will sneak it tonight, perhaps just 1-0. I will go for Barca to win 1-2.

I'd go for Juve, although I think it might be tight. If Arsenal can notch up a decent win tonight maybe they can scrape it in Turin. Barça in the other match, much more likely.

Well I was close on the Arsenal scoreline, though they more than sneaked it, they battered Juve. A couple of their players really lost it out there.

Yes, but they also played unbelievably bad as a team! Lots of bad passes and fouls. And as a result hardly any organized offensive actions from their part. That 2-0 is a tough nut to crack for Juve in the return game.
Benfica was really saved by their goalkeeper and the wood...
So tomorrow: Lyon vs. Milan Inter vs. Villareal |

I thought Arsenal were awesome. Some of the best football I've seen in a long time. Their passing and movement was sublime at times. I hope they can play like that over at Juventus......though I'd expect them to be slightly less attacking.
Good result for Benfica, they need a sneaky away goal in the first 10 minutes at Barca.
What price no Italian teams in the semi's?

Heh, as opposed to three?
I somehow refuse to accept, that this was it for Juve. Against such a young team. What a return game this will be.
For wednesday's matches: I predict two draws. Inter has a problem with scoring at the moment. And it's just Milan's style to play for a draw in the first leg (preferably with an away goal). |

aha, so I got both wrong. Milan were sooo lucky against Lyon, and it's nice to see Villareal go through. In fact, if Barcelona don't win, I'll have managed to get all of them wrong :/
So, c'mon Arsenal and Barcelona.
Then, Arsenal vs Barcelona in the final. Arsenal could win that.
well, until I tipped them.

How the hell Villereal have gotten this far is beyond me (a lot of luck I guess). Arsenal will beat them easily if they are at their best.
Milan were also lucky (to win that leg anyway), but had Andrei put some of his chances away in the first leg then it would have been as good as over anyway. I do feel for Lyon though becasue this was their best chance of winning it. They will lose more of their best players in the summer, starting with Diarra to Manchester United.
I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place
Tonight:
Juventus 1 Arsenal 1
Barcelona 3 Benfica 1 |
