I reckon I am. I am the answer to England's left sided problems.

Okay, it's a deal. You play on the left for England and I pick up my outragously large wage packet for doing basically nothing. Everyones a winner.

Something involving doing research in Oz books. Although it might cease to be fun if it were work.

I don't think anything would be less fun just because it becomes 'work'.
If there's something you enjoy doing then wouldn't it be more even more fun to do it AND get payed to do so?

Not necessarily. I think being obliged to do something can make it less fun.

Well with me being the new England manager, I'll lend you some until you find another dream job. I'm sure I'll have enough for both of us to live comfortably until then ;)

I think today I would like to be one of those decorators on one of those home decorating channels. Or get paid to surf the web all day.

When I was about 7, I used to write sequels to the Oz books, and had the notion that I'd become the next in line to write the series. I don't think I ever read any farther than Ruth Plumly Thompson's run, though.

I think most fans of the Oz books go through that phase. It's like how someone once said that the Pixies never achieved mainstream fame, but everyone who listened to them formed their own band. The Oz books haven't been particularly popular in decades, but everyone who reads them wants to write their own.

I actually had an Oz story published in the International Wizard of Oz Club's fiction magazine recently. It's the first thing I've ever had published, so I'm proud of it, even though I'm sure it's nothing to all the forum members who've had scholarly research papers published. I also have a completed Oz manuscript, although it's a very rough draft.

Oh, and I'm a counter-example to the idea that all Pixies fans start their own bands. Oh, well.

Man, I wouldn't consider that to be nothing at all, even compared to all the eggheads around here. And if you ever want someone to proofread your Oz manuscript, I'm your guy. The last time I read any Oz stories was reading the original to my older daughter (before she was born in 2002, so I actually read it to my wife's stomach...) Hopefully she'll get into them when she gets old enough to start reading.

I haven't shown my completed rough draft to anyone yet, but I'm sure I will in the future. Thanks for the proofreading offer.

Director/Screenwriter or a NYC Paramedic. I'd also love to be a freelance writer like Joe Queenan writing articles for magazines like Rolling Stone and putting out a book one and a while.
