What records are you looking forward to hearing this year? I'll be waiting eagerly for the following:
* Danielson - Ships (May '06). New Danielson Famile with a crazy guestlist that includes Albini, Kramer, Deerfook, Sufjan Stevens and a lot more. They're also releasing a series of 7" eps on Sounds Familyre, Anticon and Kill Rock Stars. * Flaming Lips - At War With The Mystics (April?) * Death From Above 1979: no idea when the new album is gonna come out. * Galaxy 2 Galaxy: this is techno and I've been waiting for the double CD to come out for more than a year. Easily what I'm most looking forward to (right after Fastman/Raiderman obviously). * Les Wampas - Rock 'n' Roll part 9 (March '06): French punk band that those who were in the CD swap might remember. They're my fave French band ever and their new single's called 'Chirac In Jail'. * Mecca Normal - The Observer (April): yeah! new Mecca Normal album. I hope it'll be good. * Carla Bozulich - Evangelista (May): new CB project on Constellation records, including members of ASMZ and GYBE. This is gonna be my first Cst record. * Frank Black - Fastman/Raiderman (duh) * Sonic Youth: new album in June apparently. I haven't bought a single SY record since 1998 for some reason, but somehow I feel this one is gonna rule. * Daniel Johnston - Lost And Found: who know if this is gonna get released but I sure hope so. * Frank Black and the Catholics - Box Set: let's keep fingers crossed.
Any other good stuff to be released soon? Give me tips, I want some new music.
Denis

"They Mean Us", the first album by The Ladies (Rob Crow of Pinback and Zach Hill of Hella and Team Sleep) should be out by now. Absolutely Kosher says the new Thingy album should be out someday soon... who knows
There's a new Kristin Hersh solo album on the way (with the McCarricks), and a follow up to her collection of Appalachian folk songs "Murder, Misery and Then Goodnight" has been announced.
And Peeping Tom.
That's off the top of my head, can't think of anything else right now.

Generally, I just wait and see what Robert Pollard comes up with. Besides his new record 'From a Compound Eye' is going to release 4 or 5 disc's this year, including a bubblegumpop-record called Normal Happiness

Does anybody know about the new Tool record? they´re always pretty secretive about it, I usually don´t find out until it´s already been released.

I like Tool's habit of secrecy. The more secretive they are, the less I hear about them.

Just found this on their website:
01 Feb 06
TOOL RECORD MASTERED Salma stopped dancing on January 29th. The next morning the members of the band flew to Portland, Maine to have the record mastered by Bob Ludwig. This was done on January 31, no doubt followed by a lobster dinner.
03 Feb 06
RELEASE DATES NOT OFFICIAL Although there are lots of release dates being bandied about, NONE are official as of this posting. However, in all likelihood, the CD will be released sometime in MAY, and hopefully earlier in that month as opposed to later. As soon as the date becomes official (or, as soon as I'm told that it's official) I will post it on the site, and then some of you can respond that it's old news.

"Other albums to watch for in 2006: Cat Power (already out), Belle & Sebastian (Feb. 7), Neko Case, Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Mar. 28), Arcade Fire, The Mars Volta, The Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins (speculative), The Wrens and The Walkmen."
They have Smashing Pumpkins as speculative, but they seem pretty confident of a Pixies album!

That's because it's definite.
I am also looking forward to The Longcut's debut album.

Apparently they'll be headlining Reading/Leeds this year.
The releases that I'm excited about off of the top of my head are Isis and Mastodon - no big surprises there then.
Lead me not into temptation; I can find the way myself. |

Apparently Maynard has found Jesus. I'd say I'm excited about the Tool release (no pun!) but their music is a bit long winded for my taste.
Anyway, I get the feeling the Frank record's gonna be DY-NO-MITE! |

Definitely the new Frank and Neko albums, as well as Andy Partridge's last two Fuzzy Warbles volumes. I've also heard rumblings of new ones from Cracker, TMBG, and "Weird Al" Yankovic. I have no idea whether those will come to pass, though.
Neko's new one is going to be called "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood," I believe.

I don't know if you heard the concert in Paris (was it at the Olympia?) from 2004 I think, that was broadcasted on France Inter. The setlist was stellar and his backing band was awesome.

There's nothing confirmed for Bowie at all. Some talk of a new record (tentatively scheduled for the summer). Since the Reality Tour was abandoned, he's only played live twice, collaborating with the Arcade Fire. |

that was an April Fool´s joke (could be inspired by the guitarist leaving Korn for same reason), an interviewer rang Maynard up to ask about it and he laughed down the phone at them.
