Everything that gets posted to this forum helps this forum...I don’t know Frank Black, but I’m sure he is a good enough businessman to know that, so stop worrying about the "conventions" of the forum.
Wherever people meet is a good place to bring up something important…like the man said “By Any Mean Necessary”
Its not my job or desire to convince you of anything, what you or I believe is above and beyond the point. The point is…the government believes it and is spending money based on its need to avoid a meltdown. We need to make sure its not our neighborhood that melts down IF something happens with H5N1 and while the government is spending money on the issue, we need to get in on the business end.
Forums that take a myopic approach to postings never last and they get little done except provide a playground for people with nothing better to do, while they exist. The Internet is not just a toy, it’s a tool and a place to meet, discuss and get things done…all kinds of things, like survival, both physical and economical.
Now, what the hell is so wrong with that and how in the hell can everybody in our community take something so lightly, that most people outside of our community is taking seriously.
When you went to New Orleans a year ago, you saw the same thing…we were dancing and singing in the streets for a few dollars and trying not to piss anybody off by talking about the serious issues concerning the levy…now, those same people are just trying to survive.
Do not play with this Pandemic issue and do not underestimate the amount of money that governments around the world are spending on getting ready for it.

By-the-way, in regards to what disinfectant should be used to kill H5N1, the following is independently lab tested and approved for surfaces, soaking infected clothing before washing and as an air spray through a humidifier.
SECTION 3. GOOD JUDGEMENT
Attempting to stay away from people who might be infected by the H5N1 virus as much as possible is good judgment but not making provisions to otherwise continue to work at your job is not. Influenza can pass through a community several times over a given Influenza season and although it is prudent to store as much as 3 to 4 weeks of food and other provision in your home, so that you will not have to travel out to areas that are typically crowded with people, like supermarkets, any more than absolutely necessary, if you work in an occupation that is vital to the viability of your community, not fulfilling that job requirement only exacerbates the situation.
1. The best protective measure to avoid being infected by any Influenza that is making it’s rounds through your community is to follow the practice of covering your nose and mouth with a respirator mask such as the Magic Arch N-95 Respirator (surgical). * 35/box Price: $24.95, as well as wearing safety glasses, like the Wilson Citation 39 Series Protective Eyewear with UV protection and protective Latex gloves with the specifications of the Dyna Grip Medical Grade Latex Powder Free Exam Glove Price: $69.95 per case of 1000 pair, when you are out of your residence.
Reference: http://www.safetyplus.net/MandRProd2.html http://www.safetyplus.net/willsonglasses.html http://www.safetyplus.net/LatexGloves.html
2. It is also recommended that you always wear a hat or cap, when out in the public, as well as a washable over-garment, such as a light weight plastic rain jacket and rain pants or a nylon jogging suit that can be taken off prior to entering your home. Your gloves, mask and protective eye wear should be sprayed with only disinfectants independently tested and approved by a recognized test laboratory. These include DuPont Antec Virkon® S, Antec Farm Fluid S™ and Antec Longlife 250S™ which have all been independently tested against the Avian Influenza virus.

Folks when you meet someone like Little Black Francis "teenager of the year" in an emergency situation or God forbid you should have to spend time in an evacuation shelter with him...please be careful.
Francis, you need to talk to a professional and get in touch with some of those feelings of yours.

Here, let me provide the link for you: http://www.dashboardconfessional.com/community/index.cfm

It's good theater. I'm tickled by the fantasy idea that he's responding while on a flight to sell video equipment to a school worried about their students missing classes due to the epidemic. |

I have a picture of me and a doctor standing at the front door of Walter Wolfman Washington (http://www.walterwolfmanwashington.com/) in New Orleans while I was volunteering for house to house rescue missions...I am hold an M4 with 203 (more about the need for the weapon…this involves people like Francis and women in shelters)
http://www.bushmaster.com/le/weapons/bushmaster_m203_m4_40mm_grenade_.htm
Anyway, the doc was from upstate NY and I came out of Texas with a dude who lives in Dallas. We did 30 city blocks in the water, mostly pulling a small boat behind us because their was so Much stuff in the water…including bodies.
When we got to Wolfman’s house he and his wife were fine, but it gave me a chance to meet and talk to him. Now I don’t know crap about Jazz, (I’m Black and Cuban) and had never met him, but he was real and his rap was real.
He saw what happened to New Orleans and the people in 9th ward and put it in my ear that we should never let a disaster like that happen again without trying to avoid it. I picked this site and a few others to post to because I thought, if that was what Jazz artists were like, the people who dig Jazz must be real.
A lot of people involved in volunteering for Katrina were already thinking and working on H5N1 issues before the storm hit and Katrina was a wake up call about the governments abilities. An Influenza Pandemic will be everywhere at once and will make Katrina look like a good day at the beach.
PS...I do have a house in UK..Ilford near Barking, but I have lived there for a few years...the Estate Agents rent it out for me.
I live between San Antonio Texas and Boca Raton in Florida most of the time.
I don't want to get involved in H5N1, I dont have time, I knew I would meet people like Francis but, after what I saw in New Orleans and Florida and what I know from my school days in biology class and 30 years of working for various government organizations including time as a cop in LAPD and 14 years on active duty with the US Army, I have to try and make sure nobody sleeps on this issue because the downside is just too steep if it happens the way a lot of people feel it will...

No, not Jazz..it just came up on a list that I had some folks who work for me generated.
There are a lost of people who log into this site...that's probably why they gave me this as a site to post to. I'm almost done, I have people around me who want me to take more interest in public issues...its really not my style. Sometimes when you see business people just write a check to the Red Cross and not try and get involved personally or in a proactive way to help prevent a bad situation, remember the response I got and try not to think too badly of them...its hard to help people :-)

I actually live with someone who is working with the government to look at this potential pandemic and if he's not shitting himself then I'm not going to.
If and when the virus mutates to a form which is readily transmitted through the human population what good do you expect this thread will have done? I might as well start one stating that people shouldn't cross the road because they might get hit by a bus. Avian flu will come and go another flu will come and go... this shit happens all the time. The medical companies are stepping up production of their variants of drugs for this virus. The government are looking at containment. What I don't get is what it is you're trying to do here? Are you trying to stir up unwarranted panic? do you honestly believe people are stupid enough to have not noticed there is this threat? do you and your associates want donations for something? what?

No, we are spending OUR money to inform YOU
Well at least that confirms the government is working on it and I'm not making the whole thing up…we are making progress.
Would that be FEMA, because I had the pleasure of meeting and working with some of those folks over the years #61516;
Or maybe one of the other Bush administration agencies…I’m sure they are all sharp people, who have everything under control. #61514;
Funny how people either feel they should panic or do nothing…humm, anyway, I’m not shitting myself either, but let’s say…just for sake of conversation, that your friend had a little too much exposure to H5N1 and got sick with it and actually shit himself…all over the kitchen floor. How would you disinfect the area…what would you use? If you decided to keep him at home with you instead of sending him to a hospital warehouse where there would be one doctor for every 50 people showing up for treatment, (a lot of whom may not even have the Bird Flu until they get around all those others who do), how would you isolate him and keep yourself and others virus free?
I don’t think you have any idea what the answers to these questions are and you probably don’t even think you need to know those answers, but you do.
If this thing strike, what you know or don’t know before it gets here will probably determine your survival. Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Levitt said on a recent interview that what you do in the 100 hours before a Pandemic is a lot more important than what you do in the first 4 or 5 hours after one starts and he urged everyone to make preparations.
That’s the purpose of this thread and others. Outside of assurances from people in the Bush administration that they are working on it, no one is saying they will take care of you or actually telling you how to take care of yourself in a Pandemic…day-to-day.
On most of the other threads, we spend time putting out information. On a few threads like this, we spend time reading post from people who rant and rave and want others to kill themselves and love the word FU#K
But its ok…because you have people like me, who don’t force anyone to even read a thread, never less respond to it, but will GIVE you answers if you want them.
#61623; To make an isolation ward, you should erect a shower curtain just inside of the room, so that it separates and seals off the area of the door from the rest of the room. If possible, create a negative pressure airflow by using a window fan, exhausting towards the outside. All linens and contaminated clothing should be laundered with only disinfectants independently tested and approved by a recognized test laboratory. These include DuPont Antec Virkon® S, Antec Farm Fluid S™ and Antec Longlife 250S™ which have all been independently tested against the Avian Influenza virus. The clothing you wear in the room should remain in that area until you are ready to wash them with one of the aforementioned broad spectrum Virucidal disinfectants. When you enter the room you should already have a hair shower cap, latex gloves, eye protection and a mouth and nose mask on, (keep these items in a plastic container hanging from the wall, just outside of the room) and you should immediately close the door behind you. You should then put on a pair of painters shoe covers and the outer garment, (nylon jogging suit) and proceed past the shower curtain and over to the family member. Visit with, feed, give medications and otherwise care for the family member making sure that they do not talk, cough, or sneeze while facing in your direction. When you have finished proceed back behind the shower curtain. There, remove the outer garment and hang it up on a hanger or hook, (do not turn it inside-out). Spray the entire outer surface of both the jacket and pants with an approved disinfectant and let it air dry. Wipe your eye protection, mouth and nose mask, hair shower cap and gloves down with the disinfectant, remove your painters shoe covers and exit the room, immediately closing the door behind you. Place the eye protection, mouth and nose mask and gloves in the plastic container hanging from the wall outside of the room’s door and proceed to wash your hands and face. Reference: http://www.dustless.com/alpha/chemicals/micro_spray.html #61623; Establishing a method of viewing and speaking to the family member from an exterior or interior window or intercom will help prevent other family members from attempting to disregard the isolation protocols. #61623; Remember, H5N1, like other Influenza has a relatively short incubation period and you should know fairly soon if they have any illness. If the family member does become sick, you still should know after a few days, if the H5N1 virus is present, due to worsening symptoms and possibly results from the testing of blood taken by the medical team that initially responded. #61623; If it is determined that the family member has contracted H5N1, maintain the strict isolation protocol and monitor their response to the administered treatment medications and immediately notify the attending physician of any dramatic change, (good or bad), in the family member’s condition. The WHO is currently recommending that infection control practices for adults should remain in place for 7 days after the patient has no fever. For children younger than 12 years old infection control practices should remain in place for 21 days after the onset of the illness. #61623; Every family has it’s own particular situation that will affect their ability to provide medical care for an individual in the home and on a full-time basis, however, due to the projected lack of available hospital beds, medical personnel and the fact that there are sure to be numerous instances of regular Flu and Common Cold symptoms being initially mistaken for H5N1 infection, the ability to care for a family member in the residence should be an option that is given serious consideration and it should be remembered that typically many more resources are devoted to bringing in casualties than there are people available to treat them when they arrive at the hospital. NOW, watch how angry some of the FU#K..F#CK people get, simply because you know something now that you didn’t know before…something that might help you later. Whether or not we see this Pandemic soon or not is not the issue, you have a right to know how to take care of yourself if the government doesn’t come running to the rescue and its posted here because you don’t go to the serious sites…or you would already know this information.
By-the-way, its like AIDS, the fewer people out there who know how to take care of themselves and are willing to take protective measures, the more at risk everyone else is.
