Videogames that is. I am. Been there since the early days of Pong really and I've enjoyed them ever since. Mostly flight sims, racing sims, and old arcade games. I'm currently updating my MAME set actually - takes a fair bit of time to d/l 16 gigs of arcade roms...

I'm very keen on Call of Duty. I'm not usually one for those types of game, but Call of Duty really hit something for me. I've dabbled with Flight Sims, mainly for the aesthetic pleasure of it. Didn't last long...
I like Tetris, Asteroids and Sonic the Hedgehog.

I tend to play management/sim games. Civilization III, Football Manager 2005, Rome: Total War (an awesome game in scope and execution), World Championship Snooker and X2: The Threat.
Of those, Football Manager and CivIII probably get the most play, but mainly because they're easy to play intermittently. It's almost impossible to play a FPS at home, because they need extended attention.
I have been getting my daughter to play Space Invaders recently.
That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.

MAME: Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator
I do have a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) emulator on my PC. I can't get into the serious games, so I end up playing ALF, the Noid, and Wayne's World sometimes. Very, very dumb games.

MAME is an amazing resource. It gets a bit of a bad rap from the anti-piracy morality brigade but really it's an honourable endeavor. It would be a sad thing for all those old classics to dissappear (some already have). Of course, MAME does emulate newer stuff (I think the rule is they don't do any games less than 3 years old) but usually not very well - and by the time the emulation is working, the game will be old. Really, anything more recent than 2000 probably isn't working right in MAME (with a few exceptions). Not everything pre-2000 works right either but many do work very well. Being able to play a round of Galaga or Raiden once in a while is a cool thing.
I've owned pretty much one console system from every generation since the Atari2600 (let's see, Atari2600, Vectrex, Gameboy, NES, SNES, PSX, Dreamcast (<-- probably my all time favorite), and just recently a Gamecube). I'm nearly finished the first Metroid Prime game and it's truly one of the 2 or 3 best games I've ever played - right up there with DOOM. The best first person shooters can be awesome fun, but unfortunately most FPS's are really dull. Call of Duty was a great one though.
A few years back I got into a race sim called Grand Prix Legends and joined up with an online league. That was an amazing experience. Very challenging but hugely rewarding. The community that developed around that sim was really something. Still going strong too. |

first console was an N64, great console.. mario 64 was fucking amazing. and of course, zelda ocarina of time, goldeneye, perfect dark, etc. etc. i have a gamecube now but i don't really play console games that much... thus nintendo is a perfect choice with their excellent 1st party games. zoguis, you should definitely get RE4 if you haven't already. at the moment i'm playing a lot of counter strike: source on the pc. i have a GBA but only ever play it when i'm on holiday.

Me too. It's an excellent game. I've managed to ween myself off it for now.
I also love Pro Evolution Soccer.

Yeah, everything I've heard about RE4 leads me to believe I need to get it sooner or later. I'm sorta just waiting for the price to come down. I've never been too big on the survival horro genre, but it sounds like RE4 has resolved some of the long-standing issues the games seemed to always have so I think it's definitely the one to get... |

yeah, it's more like a 3rd person action game now. the camera follows you, no slow zombies but fast crazed villagers, plenty of ammo, etc. etc.

I like RPG-type games, like the Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior series. I'm really not good at the games that require fast reflexes, but I still like them. I'm mostly a Nintendo guy, but I would probably get a PlayStation if I had money burning a hole in my pocket. I really have no interest in the XBox.

I like my first person shotters and RPG's. At the moment I'm playing The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay and The Thing on the X Box. I've asked this before in another games thread, but did anyone own a Saturn. Saturn owners are a very rare breed indeed.

No, but I wish I had owned a Saturn. I'm a big fan of old school 2D games and the Saturn was apparently particularly adept at pushing them sprites around... |

Yep I remember one of it's advantages over the PS was a memorey card which allowed massive sprits without any slow down. I think the most famous was the Marvel fighting games. I was never into these, but I dip into them the odd time for nostalgia of chippers with Street Figher 2.

Lately I've been playing a lot of World of Warcraft, it may be geeky but that shit is addictive. The other day I also picked up Burnout Revenge which is much fun.

Mahjong is dangerously addictive and am quite glad franken pc doesn't have it.
Tetris, ditto, we used to have a dodgy tetris game called nyet I think, awful.
Haven't played proper games for years. Used to play text adventures (zork, hitchikers etc) as a kid and the odd crappy platform game on the einstein computer we had. Then moved on to sam n max (which I still have, heh) and things like zak mckraken (two headed squirrels...ace) I quite liked day of the tentacles as well. Then there were things like myst and return to zork, winding it up , ended with a fairly healthy doom obsession then not much after that.
Oh, and, what was it called... under a killing moon or something, some 5CD horror of a detective thing with mutants. I loved that.
Never really got into the whole game-console-game thing, I played silent hill and some resident evil a few times on other peoples but, didn't grab me.

Worms is absolutely brillant, even on my phone! More addictive then Lemmings! Flashback to Tetris in 1990, soo addictive!, as was Bubble Bobble and Pang. Wow, flashback just reminded me of Flashback and Another World, god I loved them.

I heard about how amazing that game was supposed to be, but my computer at the time was so damn slow that there was no way I could have run it. I love cars, and that one with the old grand prix deathtrap racers seemed very visceral and glorious when I read about it.
When I got my new computer last year someone asked me if I had heard of the game and lent it to me-it wouldn't work on his machine so I tried it on mine but no luck either except for the intro movie.
I love driving games but haven't played them in years (since first grand turismo game on PS1).

Wrong! I think you'll find the best game ever is 'The Secret of Monkey Island' or perhaps 'Monkey Island 2: Le Chucks Revenge'.

Damn right Day Of The Tentacle. I haven't played proper computer games for ages, although Freecell has ruined my life. I used to like Championship Manager (like, like a junkie likes heroin), Civ, ooh, Colonisation too.

Don't you find it annoying when the game records your total playing time and shows it to you when you load a saved game?

You've hit on one of the games achilles heels. It was too demanding to run properly on the systems that existed when it first came out and by the time technology had caught up to it it wouldn't run as is anymore either. Luckily, one of the guys from Papyrus (the developer) went off on his own an wrote a patch for the game to make it run under Direct3d (which is now a necessity of course). There are also several other tweaks and a slew of updates pretty much recquired too. Virtually every aspect of the game has been "modded" to improve the look, sound, the online playability. It really was amazing to be part of that whole community (the community is still there actually, I've just moved on to other things). But the sim itself is a real beast - very uncompromisingly "realistic". It was simulating an era of F1 racing before such niceties as "downforce" and "racing slicks" existed. The cars were tin coffins on wheels basically and they drove like it. That difficulty was a hurdle that turned many away but if you could get over it you were rewarded with an incredibly thrilling experience - particularly the online aspect which hasn't really been bettered even yet. The only other sim with a strong an online component is Papyrus' other franchise - Nascar Racing 2003. |

I'd rather spend 2 days of my life playing a great videogame than 2 hours of my life watching a crappy movie. I'm up to 34 hours on Metroid Prime and having an absolute blast. |
