We're aiming to keep our mixes CD-R length, right?
'Bout an hour and twenty minutes.

I'll be absent (well, absent from France but present in the US) from mid-October to mid-November, so maybe I should start now? Lazy as I am, it will probably take me 2 weeks to prepare, burn and ship my mix cd...

As to the length question, i'd say keep it to multiples of 74-80 miutes, ie. if you want yours to be a multi-disc set. but make sure that each set can fit on one CD.
FITS, i guess you don't want to/can't do the FTP, right? I think it'd make sense for the non-FTP people to either go first or last in the order. What does the court vote for, first or last?

Brian, I vote first. Only becasue I may be losing internet connection at home for a short while soon, so I would prefer to go near the end when I should have it back (if not then I will do it from my friend's PC, so it will get done). Either that or I go first if I still have it on Oct. 10th.
Scott, thanks for setting the ftp up.

oh, and also, can everyone email me so i can start doing all the small little details, with non-FTPers mailing me their CDs and whatnot. my email is in my profile.

ok, here is my randomized (but thought out b/c of FTP issues) order:
Oct. 10 - Frog In The Sand (Brian FTPing) Oct. 17 - Darwin Oct. 24 - Obfuscate By Will Oct. 31 - Kathryn Nov. 7 - Sir Rockabye Nov. 14 - Fumanbru Nov. 21 - Broken Face Nov. 28 - Vilainde Dec. 5 - Llamadance Dec. 12 - Homers_Pet_Monkey Dec. 19 - Martian-Honey (Brian FTPing) Dec. 26 - Superabounder (Brian FTPing)
Look good to everyone?

I can go even earlier, Brian. It's not like I'm doing anything other than going to shows...
And I'd happily FTP (well, have you FTP it for me or however that works) if that's easier for you.
Thanks.

Unless someone else wants to go later, and you don't mind Kiki, you can keep your date when it is.
And for the record, how it will work, is that on your date, by a specified time (let's say something like 9pm EST in the US), you will upload your music onto the FTP, which i will ask Scott to give us a rundown of just how to do when the time gets closer. It will remain up until the following Monday, when the new mix is posted.
Now, for those who are NOT using the FTP, make sure that i have your discs by at least the Friday before your 'upload' date. On that date, i will upload your files for you into the FTP. In terms of receiving discs, i will send out either one package at the end, or a package every month (you can choose). Two of the three participants have agreed to pay for the discs/shipping, and that is very nice of them.
Any questions?
-Brian

Why are you so kind to us?
And PS, now I'm nervous. I've never in my lifetime made a mix before, so this should be exciting.

Holy moly I'm up soon. I'm contemplating a jazz mix. Would that be dreadfully boring for many people?
I'm not sure I want to do it. I might prefer pulling out some my favorite alt/pop songs, but I want to see if jazz (bebop) would be welcomed. Maybe I'll do some of each. Too much pressure. |

You stole my idea! I was going to include quite a bit of jazz in my mix. I might change my mind too.
Anyway... don't tell what your mix is gonna sound like, I want to have the surprise.

By the way, the jazz tunes I was thinking of weren't bebop. Quite far from that genre actually.

What do you want to know? Also, are the uploads to be in MP3 format, as I guess that's easiest.

i'm really into hearing a jazz mix! i don't have too many jazz tracks in my collection and i've always wanted to listen to more jazz. great thing about these mixes is that hopefully you get exposed to some great music that you never heard before.

Yeah as I rule I hate jazz, but as fumanbru said, it's a chance to listen to something you would not normally listen to, and to give it more of a chance. So go for it if that's what you want to do. I was contemplating a dance mix, but then I found other songs I wanted on it, so now I am contemplating a double album.
My date is fine thanks Brian.

Yeah, that was the good thing about the genre-specific swap. I now own a post-rock CD in my collection, who would've thought?

Yeah I kind of wish this one was genre-specific, 'cos I wasn't in that one. Then my hand would be forced to go with the dance mix.

Hehe.
The only worry I have about a dance mix is getting it to flow like a dance album should. I guess I won't be able to but I still fancy it. It won't be just dance music per se, but also tracks that are great to dance to.
