man! great gig (what we saw of it!!!!), but what a nightmare! you dudes need to sort out your public transport system issues! and it seems booking a hotel from cheap-hotels.com isn't always the best idea, hey mike?

The Monkey Helper has had a make-over! http://www.monkeyhelper.co.uk (that is my band)

I can't believe we missed Huffer and Divine Hammer. Grrrr. I used to love London.

I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

This one from www.donewaiting.com The Breeders : Blackheath Halls : November 19th 2005

It's funny how things work out. Back when Kim Deal got together with her chums and released Pod, it was seen as little more than a stop-gap between Pixies albums. It was a 4AD supergroup; what Kim did on her holidays.

Fifteen years later, The Breeders have only released two more albums, and Kim is the only constant across all three. If you weren't looking closely, you might think that this band isn't the most serious of occupations.

On stage, as Kelley giggles her way through the backing vocals on Huffer, you might feel that first impression has been reinforced.

You'd be wrong.

For all that they sometimes appear thrown together, there's an attention to detail in this set, part of the 1980 Forward series of shows for 4AD s 25th anniversary, that shows quite why this band are still so highly regarded, and why people will still be watching what Kim Deal is up to long after the Pixies reunion has faded into distant memory.

Put simply - tonight the Breeders are brilliant.

It starts out with the line-up circa Title TK. They toss out a few minor tracks, you know, No Aloha, Divine Hammer, that sort of thing. And then the Fear guys leave the stage, and Kim introduces Carrie Bradley on backing vocals, Josephine Wiggs on bass, and announces that they've not played the next song live before so they might fuck it up. And it's Metal Man, and its huge, and the band are grinning from ear to ear, and Carrie's manic dancing in the mid-song break characterises how we all feel. You know what that guitar bit reminds me of? It reminds me of My Iron Lung, only much better and 5 years earlier.

Its treat after treat from then on. Carrie picks up her violin, and for Drivin' On 9, Kelley has a mandolin, biting her lip in concentration as she carefully picks out each note. Mick Allen comes out for a walk-on for Oh, reprising his part from the original release, and as an encore, we've got all line-ups covered for Do You Love Me Now? Josephine leaping up from her cello to join the choir for the final refrain.

It's everything that a celebratory concert should be. It's got surprises, guest stars, a genuine sense of occasion. But most of all, its got a great band on top of its game playing great songs. Kim is one of those artists who could command our attention if she was merely going through the motions. And we're lucky that she doesn't.
