I've always been a huge BLondie fan. Just flipping channels a few minutes ago I happened to catch the vid of Heart of Glass on much music's retro request show. 1978, wow. I was 12 years old when it was a huge hit and I can remember the school-yard discussions we had about how in the "real" version of the song, Blondie (becuase of course the lead singers name actually was Blondie, heh) really said "ass" instead of "glass" like it was on the radio. It's too bad Blondie sort of got lumped into the "disco sucks" movement shortly after that becuase Heart of Glass is really a much cooler song than the average disco dance tune. Really the only thing disco about it is the beat. It's actually a pretty cynical lyric (much like REM's For The One I love) and the video (I don't think they were actually called "videos" yet at that point) is hilariously cynical. Watching the band bounce around and so painfully obviously pretend to play their instruments is a laugh riot. One sure sign of a cool band is that you can look at old footage of them and there is a timeless quality. The band in the Heart of Glass clip wouldn't look that out of place in a video today. Of course Blondie had tons of great songs other than that one (and better than that one) and it's sort of unfortunate that Heart of Glass became their "signature" tune. It sure is strange to see old stuff like that and realize that to high school kids today, that stuff is even older than the Beatles were to me when I was in high school. The 60's seemed like ancient history to me...

Yeah, it's too bad CBGB's looks to be down for the count. And Joey, Johnny and Dee Dee are dead. :( Sheesh.

On a brighter note, I just picked up the "Weird Tales of The Ramones" box set. Doing it up like an old EC horror comic is sheer brilliance. :)

Good job floop. A man on the beam.

As I've mentioned a few times through the years, my most treasured rock momento is a Blondie drumstick which landed in my hand in Austin about 25 years ago when Blondie opened for the Kinks. Super show, where I somehow found myself right at the stage and then spent most of the evening without beer simply because I didn't want to lose my spot. Speaking of CBGB's, that Austin show was at the great Armadillo World Headquarters, which was torn down a few years later, ostensibly to make room for a hotel but in reality to eliminate a venue where pot smoking was openly encouraged. I remember one show where the emcee called for everyone to vote for a sheriff who had a tolerant attitude on such things. Them were the days.

Thats sounds like a hell of a show Erebus.

I LOVE Blondie, they are one of my top 5 bands of all time, and no mistakin'.

Here's the picture I have on the t-shirt I had made. Wore it at the Londum forum meet-up last year actually.

I've never seen that, but I must. I think it might be coming out uncut on R2.

I just bought Blondie's Parallel Lines.
That's about all... I just wanted to look cool in front of Homers.
