HMV have had Fool The World: An Oral History Of The Pixies to pre-order for a while, and they now have a picture of the cover displayed.

http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=12;-1;-1;-1&sku=381982

No sign of a release date, though. Anyone got any more info?!

[EDIT]Oh, wait, wait, sixth of October, did'nt see that!!

[EDIT (Again!)] Some new info, courtesy of Heather! This is'nt the proper cover or title! It's actually Fool The World-An Oral History Of A Band Called Pixies. The HMV pic is a mock-up. Below is the proper UK cover, which apparently has Steve Appleby illustrations specially done for the book, inside. The US version will be an extended edition! And many thanks to Heather for the info and cover picture!

The whole band contribute to it, and it seems like a more genuine article than 'that' other book! :)

Co-writer Josh Frank co-produced the Teenager Of The Year musical!

Since the reunion, we've had two tours, a 'new' Pixies song (Bam Thwok!-and some covers!!),two books (one of which seems particularly bad, but, whatever!!), three DVDs...maybe a new record? We really are spoilt! :)

I think this is the good one. The one endorsed by the band. Can some one let me know before I buy a bad book?? I am traumatized still by "Gigantic" the book. Thank you!

Are there generally 100 people who buy you birthday presents? I envy you. :P

Okay, maybe not, since I'd have to buy THEM presents, too.

So folks, just so you know, Charles and the Pixies are not affiliated with this this book.
Josh Frank is, as are so many people who lack true creativity, a bandwagoneer.
He originally got the rights from Charles to use a bunch of Pixies songs in
for a tentative musical called Teenager of the Year, this was a few years ago now -- pre-Pixies reunion.
He bugged Dave and Joey a bit to get info for the musical - Kim Deal didn't touch the guy with a ten
hundred foot poll. Charles had nothing to lose -- he was in non-Pixies mode and was essentially
indulging this guy with his graciousness.
Suddenly, the Pixies are back, they're hot, and suddenly there's this book happening, which is unauthorized as no one had
had been asked or told about it. Any info gleaned from any member of the band was intended to provide context for
the musical. Yet Mr. Frank is saying that he had the full participation of the band.

The whole thing is, as per usual, extremely squirrelly....
But one hopes Mr. Frank is at least fanboy-ish enough that he hasn't created as big a stitch-job as
that other book, which was a product of a big ole sourpuss who got his feelings hurt
because no one would give him the time of day.

I'm not saying don't buy it, but I AM saying that it is UNAUTHORIZED and potentially erroneous
and/or a hatchet job :-)

When you're pregnant AND nursing you're basically taking fists full
of vitamins all day long - Kids are challenging of course but they just light up
a person's life like nothing else can. We both feel so lucky and so happy, we are
such a happy family, and we have the baby mojo flowing right now so, you know,
the more the merrier! Children are heavenly.

thanks for the inside scoop violet! so i guess the title, "fool the world" is somewhat appropriate. too bad about josh frank. i don't know anything about him but was looking forward to the teenager of the year musical.

don't be a stranger. (but i do realize you must be extremely busy!) how's jack and the rest of the family?

I was with a pregnant-and-nursing friend at the Newport gig and she was rocking out. I still don't know how you can do both, but bless you and best of luck to you and your growing brood. It's always great when you pop in here. You know how much we adore our Frank and, by extention, his growing family.

FYI THIS IS THE TRUTH, THE WHOLE TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH! yall- Mr. Frank never said it was authorized in any way, the press did, david spent a whole night with josh at the magic castle in LA and had a good time hanging out, and showing magic tricks, Joey spent an afternoon sitting at a cafe with josh in LA. and he did have kims participation for the musical and spent a whole day in ohio with her and kelly, he has been developing the musical up this summer with producers tirelessly and at his own expense. it has been a labor of love, from two years before the freakin reunion and has held the rights up until this summer. as well... he started putting the book together a year and a half before the reunion, and only decided to put it out because he thought that the stories he had collected would be inspiring to fans, peers, and young artists coming out into the world now, so put that in your pipe and smoke it. and shame on you's.

all my best.

No disrespect, but I'm thinking Violet might be a better source for "the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth."

And please don't refer to it as "the freakin reunion." It's the fucking awesome, much-awaited, jaws-dropped, grin-won't-go-away, holy-shit-it's-Frank reunion.

All Im sayin is, i've known the guy on and off for many years, he has a heart of gold, really believed in charles as an artist and musician, and has put together a book that is really touching, inspiring, and straight from the heart.

Give it a chance, trust me.

It really pays homage to Boston, and all the people that surrounded the world of the band around the world.

not to mention he spent almost 3 years writing it.

just something to think about.

Wow, this is strange! Nice to hear from you, Miss Violet! I really thought that this was an authorised book. It sounds like Mr. F is genuine, though, rather than merely a cash-in artist-I remember reading about the musical being made a few years ago. And at least it won't be a hack job, like that other book (which I hav'nt read, butI know the guy is a hack!)

Got a friend who got a peek! wow! wow! wow! She says its classy, balanced, entertaining, smart and right on the money! she's in the music biz and says that she would bet her pixie button collection that pixie album sales will increase this year kuss the book really ties together the importance of the albums and the connection to all the music that came after at the right place right time, the stuff that piggie backed. she's like a music industry analyst brainiac chick. I don't really understand what she's talkin about half the time, but she is always right.

just saw it can be pre-ordered at...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0...0764652-1110804

and there is a fairly detailed description. I la la love the cover.

comes out Oct. 6 in UK!!!
Hoo-ray! 16 days, I can-not-wait!
