Immaculate Machine was all right. Kind of punkish, although not overly so. When I saw them, the drummer had his shirt off the whole time, and I mentally called him "Big Shirtless Ron." I wasn't overly impressed by them, but my girlfriend liked them enough to buy their EP.

saw the NP in the peg tonight! first time i've seen them live. well worth the wait. fantastic show! no neko and no dan but very good nonetheless. kathryn has an AMAZING voice and does a great job on the neko tracks. i will hopefully be seeing neko live this summer at the winnipeg folk fest. got to chat it up for a bit with carl and kurt after the show. i posted a longer review on the np site.

From what I've heard, the New Pornographers are opening for Belle and Sebastian on their current tour. I'll be seeing them next month. Neko probably won't be touring with them, since she's playing solo shows around the same time (I'll be seeing her in April, actually). I'm sure they'll be good anyway, but that strikes me as like seeing the Pixies without Kim (only worse, because Kim isn't my favorite member of the Pixies).

What is her name... Elizabeth or Katherine (from Neins Circa/AC Newman) is not quite Neko Case but she's damn good and I don't think you'd notice the difference musically. Stage presence, she's a little more shy, but, very very nice girl and you get the added bonus of some keys from her. It might not be the same, but it'd still be worth seeing I assure you.

... I'd be more concerned about a lack of Dan Bejar. Well, musically speaking. <ahem>

YAY, it's back!

Anyone else heard Graceland? I think it might be a b-side but they played it when I went to see them in December and it REALLY impressed me. I have since downloaded it and it's definitely one of their best. Shame it didn't make an album.

They are playing two dates in England with Spoon in April/May. Not Manchester though unfortunately.

Man, tickets for the sold out Dallas show w/ Belle & Sebastian are going for $200 U.S. right now. I cannot believe how expensive they are. I thought I would defnitely go, but for these prices I doubt it.

thxs erebus!

anyone listen to the new neko case album "fox confessor.."? i'm really loving it! haven't really got into her previous stuff. she's got a great voice but a bit too country for my taste. her new album is more alt country and even sounds like it could be in a david lynch movie.

I saw them open for Belle and Sebastian last night. I didn't think they sounded as good as they did back in October, and not just because of the absence of Neko and Dan. Mind you, I WAS standing right near a speaker, so that could have something to do with it. Regardless, it was a lot of fun, and Carl did a pretty good Dan imitation on "Testament To Youth In Verse."

I'm looking forward to "Fox Confessor." I don't think it'll be out here until next month, though. I love all of Neko's other albums ("Furnace Room Lullaby" being my favorite), but then, I'm pretty cool with country music. Well, SOME country music.

Well I saw them (the NP's) tonight. Before the show I was kinda PO'd I paid $32 (not including ticket bastard fees) each just to see them when I could have paid $15 to see them with Dan and Neko last fall.

However, I thought it was a good show. I was bumed it was in a bigger venue but I thought they souned much better than I thought and I would definately see them again.

I think Kathryn did a great job, those are tough shoes to fill. She really seemed to open up after a few songs.

Also I am glad they didn't sound perfect. I hate bands where there isn't a mistake or two in there b/c you think it's pre recorded.

Glad they played a mix of old and new songs. The set was approx 45 mins long, which I thought was decent for an opening band.

Seemed too like the crowd was into them as well which is nice- not much talking over the band or empty seats or what not.

Anyway great show. Worth the $32 bucks. Hope to see them headlining again here soon in a smaller venue for a lower ticket price with the original lineup. But I must say they put on one heck of a show.

I turned down that show to go to Omaha to see Of Montreal tonight instead. But there was a snow storm, so I didn't get to see any music. Oh well. Stereolab on Friday was good enough.

Just bought a ticket from a guy using craigslist.com this morning. The show is tonight, and scalping companies had been asking between $150-225 per ticket and ebay had two tickets going for $175-225. Got a very good deal from this guy, although I'll have to go alone. Can't wait.

saw em open up for Belle and Sebastian on Sunday. was kind of disappointing compared to the show i saw a few months ago. no Neko no Bejar. the mix was bad. i kind of felt like they should have charged half price

AC gave it his best though and i still think they're the best band of the 00's

I liked their Dallas show, but we didn't get a visit with Dan & Neko so I can't compare. I'm just happy that I can listen to my NP cd's again-I always have to stop listening to cd's of the bands I am going to see so I don't burn 'em out before the show.

Funny Neko story: I bought Fox Confessor today with a gift card I had for Borders, and the guy behind the counter said "OH, I LOVE that cd. Her voice is amazing. I always liked her in Velvet Underground, but I never knew she was making solo cd's!" Wrong Neko, dude.

IM are from Vic, they played at a vegan benefit show i organized a few years ago. Nice to see 'em gaining in popularity!
