that's a question innit?
When will I hear something mind blowing and dangerous like the Pixies I heard 12 years ago?
I'm tired of being impressed exclusively by bands whose members are currently dead or over 50 years old.
I would love to rock you inside out, my love.

Nope, there's nothing wrong with him. I think you're both right. Let me explain...
I've seen bands come and go, fads in and out, and still no one has come close to matching that special something the Pixies had. And i'm not just saying that because i'm here, biase and all that. If there was another band that turned me on so much, i would be over there singing their praises.
The problem may be mine, but it's not my fault no other group has blown me away. It's a feeling inside, like love, and if it's not there, I can't fake it.
I read people here complimenting bands for some reason i think are mediocre, now that's my problem definately. Maybe i'm just numb, i don't feel anything. So still, i'm waiting for that next special something to come along, and i know i'm in for a long wait. |

Don't bother waiting for someone to mean as much to you as the Pixies, if you're smart then it will never happen ; )
Seriously though, I agree with my homie Mike2.

my problem is i'm so critical of songs/bands. a lyric or a pretty shitty obvious chord change really does put me off. It really does annoy me when I can second guess the next part of a song on first listen. And then when i check out local bands, all i think is "why bother!. Yeah you've wrote a song and you're playing guitar, but have you actually listened to what you're playing?"
Why can't I appreciate it for what it is, fun. I seriously need to see a shrink. Homers, do me a mix tape, please!!! Save Me! |

Haha, this is so true. I was thinking the exact same thing last night when I went to an unsigned night in the city.
99.9% percent of amateur bands are a crock of shite. It gives me hope for myself.
I am not sure there is any point of me making you a mix CD mate, it sounds like you are beyond help ; )

I fall to my knees and look to the sky Who will save rock and roll?
Murray The K is not here today so who will save rock and roll?
Every protest singer every guitar slinger every punk rock sinner sells his soul
My generation is not the salvation so who will save rock and roll
I saw The Stooges, covered with bruises who will save rock and roll?
every mercenary three chord revolutionaries choose your side and choose it well
June 1st, 67 something died and went to heaven I wish Sgt Pepper never taught the band to play
my generation is not the salvation so who will save, who will save tell me who will save rock and...... roll?
good question

Which kind of rock n roll? The creative or the tough?
GOSLING
http://myspace.com/gosling
I've been following these guys for a while. Intellegent rock 'n roll. Deep stuff too (layers of meaning).
example songs: Worm Waltz- about overconsumption Mr. Skeleton Wings
They've aimed towards the Beatles lately, but I think it's an excellent target.
----------------------------
Rocket From the Crypt
Pure rock n' roll toughness. The kick-ars type.

Rock n roll is dead. But that's okay.
Ya know what I think has sucked the "meaning" out of music? THE INTERNET. Years ago some musicians were talking about how great the internet is for reaching a new audience (or reaching ANY audience in the first place) and some fools still say this, but I actually think the opposite has happened (for the most part).
These pipe dreams aren't coming true because there's SO MUCH out there. Every two-bit college town rock band today has a website or a myspace with MP3s for you to hear. Half the people you run into on music message boards are in rock bands. The unsigned/undiscovered pool of currently active musicians all jumping for your attention like hungry puppies is so huge that no one knows where to start. And most of the chances you do take end up being disappointments. So you get some people like me who don't bother with most new music at all and instead listen to 60s records all the time.
Also our ability to hit the computer and download almost anything and get a pile of information on almost anything -- while that can be lots of fun and convenient -- also lessens the "meaning"/"importance" of music, in my opinion, because it no longer takes any effort to seek things out (personally I don't consider sitting at your computer, eating Cheeto's, and cruising Soulseek to be "effort"). |

Aren't you contradicting yourself here? There is more music around, so much that people don't know where to start, yet it's too easy to find it?
Maybe your point it correct but it reads wrong, or I am just reading it wrong myself.

This is a pointless thread, though some of the replies are great. If you are bored of the state of music, write some decent music.

This is a pointless answer, though I don't care. If you are bored with pointless thread don't read them, and don't answer.
By the way, I trie to write some decent music, it may be pointless as I would rather take weapons and crusade... But i'm stuck up in an office and a bourgeoise life. And I quite like that. And I have an opinion on everything, and I can be narrow minded, and I don't like most threads, but I don't care.
