Ineteresting. You say that The VU and Nico is a great album half ruined by Nico.
Logically if it is half-RUINED, it cannot be a great album. A great album is great or not. It cannot be great in theory only. In this case one says it is a failure.
We agree that this album is great. Rock fans agree this fact.
But wanna-be cool people also agree this fact.
It's cool to say "I love the Velvets" because we hear about the Velvets before listenning to them.
Almost everyone say "It's a great band". In the end a lot of people say it's great because it feels like it is an undiscutable fact.
You say Nico ruined the album (a great album). I feel like I already read this statement somewhere, by some hype-not-able-to-create-real-fiction-and-be-musicians-writers, aka journalists.
I think you do not like The Velvet Underground. You WOULD like the idea of the velevet underground, but if you despise Nico, you therefore do not like the Velvet Underground. Maybe you like Lou Reed.
Maybe you're a fan of the album "Squeeze" by the velvet underground.
Nico, Cale, Moe and Morrison were the Velvet Underground.
Lou Reed was the wrapper (the original wrapper!). But Lou Reed killed the Velvet Underground. Yes he was the main voice and lyrics. But he killed his band like one kills his little cat. Logical reaction for a talented though sick young man.
To resume: have an ear to the Velvet Underground.
And by the way, Nico's solo work.

If she was they wouldn't have called it velvet underground & nico. <----------- see? read it there. vu. nico. separate.
