Hey! Anyone want to recommend some cult movies for me to rent? The reason I'm posting this now is cause I finally saw Rosemarys Baby yesterday and loved that. Also I'm a huge eraserhead fan.

Watched Badlands again a week or two ago, I really love that film, plus I realized The Go! Team sample some of the soundtrack. American Movie has also become one of my personal favorites.

bad boy bubby - disturbingly brilliant, emphasis on disturbing
brain dead (or the dead alive depending on where you live) - genius Peter Jackson
brazil - surreal but fun
harold and maude - the most romantic and dark movie ever made. beautiful
basket case - good old fashioned cheesy horror
bad taste - Peter Jacksons first and low budget cannibal alien film, hilarious.

Also want to ditto evil dead and dark star.

How about Buckaroo Bonsai? One of my favorite Sci Fi classics.

It is a riot! Peter Weller and John Lithgow are brilliantly funny.

It's a good film but saying it's his best would be like saying the college demos are Frank's best songs!

for a Carpenter choice, I'd rather pick Prince of darkness, The thing or Vampires

Hmm, I think Brad Pitt was better in Twelve Monkeys. Or maybe Meet Joe Black.

Kidding! 12 Monkeys he's better though.

Does Shaun Of The Dead count as a cult classic? I would think so.
Get Carter maybe?

The best one ever is 'A Clockwork Orange', but I guess everyone has seen it.

'Orlando' has its moments.
Yes, 'Brazil', a good one.

I haven't, its one of those 'must get round to' films. I just love the bizarreness of it all. And Ron Perlmans jumper, I'm a big fan of his jumper.

Withnail and I.
Probably one of the funniest films I've ever seen. The ultimate cult comedy.

Solaris.
70's Russian sci-fi film made by the great Tarkovsky. The slowest moving sci-fi movie ever. A classic.

I have spared myself the ordeal of watching the remake, but I want to second The Marsist's recommendation of Robert Wise's 1960 version. It's superb. (It's adapted from a Shirley Jackson novel BTW. Classic cult writer too.)

Great recommendations, everyone. I have to add Phantom Of The Paradise, simply the best movie ever made. You know you'll love it.

By Tod Browning, I also suggest The Unknown. That's the freakiest movie I've ever seen. And it was made in 1927! Might be a bit hard to find though.

I've never heard that Donnie Darko was supposed to be overrated. I don't think you could overrate the film.

I'd seen it years ago on TV when it was shown along with "Freaks". I thought it was pretty sick, and became fascinated with Lon Chaney Jr. (a man who believed in suffering for his art). It's certainly one of the weirdest stories ever told on the screen. Quite disturbing.

I have to add:
'Un Chien Andalou'
'Delicatessen', but it has already been said.
'Sense and Sensibility'. I don't know if it's a cult movie, but I liked it.
'Le voyage dans la lune'
'National Lampoon's Animal House', haha! This one's funny!
'The Keep'
'Natural Born Killers'
'Tesis', I don't know the title you've given to this one.
'Bawang Bieji' (Farewell My Concubine)
I actually liked 'Cube'
'Akira', but I don't want to get into anime movies.

I second Repo Man, Brazil and City of Lost Children. Tesis is Thesis in English Xavi, I remember it as the first film I watched in Spanish and understood.

Braaaaaaaaaazil, the Brazil that i knew where I wandered with you in myyyyy imaginaaaation, where the songs are passionate and a smile has a flash in it and a kiss has heart in it cause you put heart in it...
