Dummy explosions using detonators only have sparked the evacuation of three Tube stations and the closure of three lines, a BBC correspondent has said.

Police cordoned off large areas around Warren Street, Oval and Shepherd's Bush Tube stations.

Emergency services also attended an incident on a route 26 bus in Hackney Road in Bethnal Green.

There were reports of smoke coming from two of the stations. There are no reports of any injuries.

The whole of the Northern Line has been suspended, along with the Victoria Line and the Hammersmith and City.

A spokesman for London Underground said the nature of the incidents was unknown.

One hospital, near Warren Street station, has started its emergency plan.

Sosiane Mohellavi, 35, was travelling from Oxford Circus to Walthamstow when she was evacuated from a train at Warren Street.

"I was in the carriage and we smelt smoke - it was like something was burning. "Everyone was panicked and people were screaming. We had to pull the alarm. I am still shaking."

But a BBC reporter outside Warren Street station said there was no sign of smoke outside.

there's a report of one possible injury

plus people think there may have been bombs but the detonators didn't explode them... apparently there was a guy with a rucksack who, after the detonator went off, he ran out of the station leaving the bag there. some people were like "hey he left his bag" to which people replied "put it down you mong" . rofl, i can imagine the bomb guy being like... shit, that was meant to go off, and i'm meant to be dead aswell as everyone around me... shit. i think i heard one eyewitness on the news say he was "english".

reuters are saying a nail bomb went off?

small explosion on bus, some windows blown out, a bag was found on the bus with a tear and a funny smell (burning rubber?) and the bus was evacuated...

Oh let it linger

Mental. Again.
Apparently, a guy was seen running from Warren St station, and now UCH is cordoned off and an internal memo is going around telling staff to look for a "tall man with wires protruding from his chest".

As you said Steve, it looks like bombs which failed to go off, to some extent.

This is all crazy and everything, but it really made me nervous when they speculated about chemical bombs - that freaks me out a little. That would only be a little explosion, but would be escalating the whole deal a long way.

How's that for a slice of fried gold?

The spokesman said the windows of the bus were blown out, although this was denied by a police officer at the scene.

"I have seen the bus. There were no windows blown out," the officer told Reuters.

Yeah, this is really crazy! I think (hope) there are just a few minor casualties. Apparently, they were smaller bombs. And man was spotted fleeing the scene of one of the incidents.

London attackers 'meant to kill'

Emergency services in protective clothing were deployed at the bus site
The people behind the latest attack in London meant to kill, the head of the Metropolitan Police has said.
But Sir Ian Blair said: "The important point is that the intention of the terrorists has failed."

Attempts were made to set off explosives at four locations, including three Tube stations and on one bus.

Mayor Ken Livingstone said it was not surprising London had been attacked a fortnight after 56 people died, adding: "We will get through this."

Police sources say the blasts may have been near simultaneous and that they are being linked with the 7 July bombs.

They say a number of fugitives are being sought. Two people have been arrested in Whitehall.
----

They're saying it was a proper attempt.
