What do you guys think of Jean's vocals? I think they sound kind of bad until Frank sings with her. It's cool she's on the album though. It's a cool song too. All the songs are cool!

I don't have a problem with her singing.

I don't think he got her for the song because he thought she sounded like Leann Rimes. But I don't think she sounds so bad. It's commendable that the both of them were mature enough to do this in light of their situation.

She sounds good, but I do think they should have redone the
''funny how an evening turns into years''-line

The song reminds me of something off the A MIGHTY WIND soundtrack. Don't get me wrong! I love it! But it is crazily corny. I like Jean's vocals...they're cute. (did I just say that?)

I appreciate her vocals the way I appreciate Exene Cervenka's. And that's a compliment.

I think her vocals are perfectly suited for the mood of the song. In fact the "funny how an evening turns into years" is one of my favorite parts.

Definitely!

During the first few listens that part was almost unbearable for me. Now I´m getting used to it, I guess.

Great song, nevertheless.

Her vocals don't sound like a professional singer, but I think she makes up for it with authenticity and feeling, and the result is just fine-especially good on the harmony parts, though less so on her solo parts. Very refreshing to see two people being adults about a divorce. I love the lyrics.

If I didn't know anything about the background of and inspiration for the song, I probably wouldn't care too much for her vocals.

Knowing what the song is about though and knowing who she is changes all of that and I think it's a great touch. It's very George Jones-Tammy Wynette (who recorded duets together after their divorce). It doesn't really matter that she's not a polished singer.

The REAL question is how the heck did that (thankfully short-lived) Courtney Love rumor ever even start? The singing in "Strange Goodbye" doesn't sound like Courtney Love at all.

I don't like the vocals, I end up skipping the song more often than not.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Without their history, i doubt she would have been first choice to sing it.
Without their history, there would be no Strange Goodbye.

i think she sings real nice. the song over all when you consider the circumstance is one of if not the greatest duets of all time, there is not a kernal of corn in it and like the rest of the record it is straight up, no chaser.

And for those who don't like it, at least it's one of the shortest songs on the record! I think it was David Byrne however who said,"The better the singers voice, the less you believe what they're saying."

First of all, David Byrne is the man. Secondly, after several listens I find Jean Black's voice stuck in my head. "I used to live in a big black cloud..." And you know what? I kind of like it.

I wasn't expecting her guest vocals when I first heard this song and for a brief moment I thought Frank had been sucking on balloons.

I don't really care for them. I think she's trying to go for a country thing, but not succeeding all that well. Maybe they'll grow on me, though.

While not polished, I found her vocals extremely enjoyable. What the song stands for in my mind is much more important. It sounds like such a heartfelt song.

I quite like them. Frank vocals fit perfectly with female ones.

He should re-record some Catholics tracks with a female singer (please, don't kill me). With a professional one, of course.

I was impressed that she was singing the harmony part on the chorus. She knows what she's doing.
However, I agree with the others in that I enjoy her part on the album just for her history with Frank...definitely not for her voice quality.

2. You must be wearing Zubaz, 'cause you're daring to be different.

Yeah, me too. She's so far from hitting the right note that it more or less ruins the song for me.
