Anyone have any favorite radio iTunes radio channels or podcast subscriptions that play Frank Black? I just discovered this feature of iTunes recently and don't know what to begin listening to. I did notice WOXY from the 'promote Honeycomb' thread, so I'm tuned into that now.

Some day... I will own an Ipod and it will podcast! With a baby on the way, I'd prefer entertainment from her instead. |

Could someone explain what podcasting is for a simpleton like myself? I've heard the word thrown around a lot lately.

Sir Rock, you're gonna like this. You subscribe to a feed and you automatically get new audio files, i.e. radio shows.
The latest version of iTunes has a podcast feature.
edit: Podcasting could also be of interest to you vis a vis your band - you could independently produce and broadcast your music.

I have discovered the the whole podcast thing only recently, after updating my iTunes. So far I really like it, but am a bit overwhelmed by the massive number of podcasts to choose from.
Can you recommend something worthwhile (FB/Pixies related or not)?
OT: Where do you host your pictures, in order to post them here? |

same here. indiepoprocks is a cracking station. i've discovered loads of new bands that i really like thanks to them. (such as mountain goats, optiganally yours, american analogue set, azure ray, bedhead, built to spill, now it's overhead)
The Monkey Helper has arrived http://www.monkeyhelper.co.uk (that is my band) or to go straight to the music downloads http://www.soundclick.com/bands/3/monkeyhelpermusic.htm |

let's take the ipod:
1) it will let you upload tracks on it but it won't let you download them in another computer (unless you use winamp to manage your ipod. in that case there is a hack\plugin that allows 2way transfers)
2) ipod battery pack sucks. when you pay 300$ for a gadget you would expect it to function a bit more than a year.
3) the itunes\ipod bundle. i don't want to use itunes i really hate it. i don't see why i have to install it in my pc. and i don't think that apple provides drivers or other software to manage the ipod without itunes
4) itunes works only on win2K SP4 and winXP SP2. i have 2 laptops one running win98 and one winME. many people find it frustrating not being able to use new gadgets with their old pcs just because someone doesn't care to provide drivers.
there are loads of other mp3 players that are better and cost less but noone cares much since there are not trendy enough. that's my 2 cents on the ipod.
apple in general gives me the nerves for one reason: they sell fashion and design more than computers. and the apple users will always start about how superior a mac is. which is just ridiculous. maybe that's because i care about price more than i care about looks. but whatever. i would never put myself in the trouble of figuring out compatibility issues that a mac gives with the rest of the pc world. too frustrating not being able to transfer data from a mac to a pc or configuring a network or trace software for your needs.

Why is that, Mun? I love my iTunes. What evil lurks within?
Thanks.

Ok, THAT is annoying.
My PC runs with WindowsME, so I have to manage my iTunes at my flatmate“s computer, wich runs with WindowsXP.
Other than that, I“m quite enjoying my iPod. |

it gives me the nerves because it is pointlessly complicated. and because it has the itunes shop imbeded within. everytime you use it it will automatically detect your internet connection and try to reach itunes shop (when i installed it my firewall went nuts with all the processes it started). i think that this kind of unwanted interaction is evil. why do i have to use an app that derails my pc to a shop (even if it is the manufacturer's shop) to manage my OWN player for which i paid? if i want to buy i'll go to the shop myself. and i would damn well like to choose myself were to buy without monopolistic hints from my software. side note: choice isn't that easy either with the stupid format wars between apple and microsoft were both are to blame for frustrating people with compatibility problems between players that support one format or the other (i know of no player that supports both. damn DRM. but that's another issue).

the ipod is a decent piece of hardware even if better and cheaper alternatives are available. it's the damn apple mentality and the software that accompanies it to make it so detestable for me.
said that you can use winamp with the ipod plugin to manage your ipod (which will save you from using that Ipiece of Icrap that is Itunes. god how i hate those Is everywhere)). my guess is that you could manage to make it work on winME with a bit of searching. thank god there are generous geeks out there that help out with corporate stupidity.

Thanks for the tip, MunChien. When I feel ambitious enough, I might try to figure that out. |

The iPod really doesn't strike me as a good value, compared to other MP3 players out there. I've also heard that you can't replace the battery yourself, and the battery pretty much always dies. I'm fine with iTunes as a player, and even as a store, although I wish you could buy stuff in MP3 format.
I was all out of luck, like a duck that died. I was all out of juice, like a moose denied. |

Actually, Anapod from Red Chair Software interfaces between the Ipod and Win98-WinXP. It's just not free like Itunes is.
Also, Real Player has been trying to interface between Ipod and it's Real Player for a while now. It's only been somewhat successful. For what it's worth, here is their FAQ on it, and here is their support page for it.
Indie Pop Rocks! is hands down the best radio station on the web. (You can quote me on that IPR..lol). I haven't listened to podcasts... |
