Do you wear one? Do you have several? Do you care about the time?
I always wore a watch, I worked underneath several clocks that reminded me and my co-workers of the time, as we had to be hyper-aware of each second flying by. I haven't worn a watch in three-plus years, most of the time I can't remember what day of the week it is. In a masochistic way, I miss always being aware of the time. I don't think I've even seen my watch in a year.

I don't wear a watch because I'm allergic to a lot of the fittings on them, I had a great one from the bodyworlds exhibition and the clock face was a pelvis and the straps were tissue slices, the backing was silver but the fitments had nickel in them so I couldn't wear it.
I like not having to know the time and if I'm desperate my mobile phone displays it.
and you're questioning the sciences and questioning religion you're looking like an idiot and you no longer care.

I always, always wore a watch. Then just before I went on holiday last year I broke the strap and never bothered getting it fixed, and just coped without, I barely noticed it not being there. This year, we were going through my grandma's things and found my grandad's old watch, so I got the glass replaced as it was very scratched and now I wear that. It's kind of nice, and it must be 30 or 40 years old, wind-up and in very good order. Nice memento, too.
How's that for a slice of fried gold? |

I have a nice watch that I bought in New York. One of the few good things to come out of that holiday.

I can't live without a watch. I feel naked if I don't have one. |

I feel naked without eyeliner. How shallow is that? At least a watch serves a function.

Not that I have something against monitoring time, per se, but I guess "accessories" just bug me in general. A watch is cumbersome and so I don't wear one...haven't worn one in over 10 years probably. If I need to check the time, a clock is never far away, and I have my cell phone as well. |

When I was a kid I collected watches. I don't even know how it started. It was my father who always found these bizard and interesting wrist charms for me. I always felt so cool wearing them regardless of what anyone else thought. I think my favorites were my jettson's watch with stars that moved for the seconds hand, a Kraft Mac and Cheese watch with a fliptop that revealed the digital display, and a cracker jacks watch. My mother still has them all somewhere.
Today...I wear mainly bracelets but I do have a plain silver watch I wear to work. This thread is making me think I should dig up those old watches the kids might get a kick out of them in the clinic.

No watch.
I do wear a nerdy little PDA that I use to check the time, though.

I've never owned a watch properly, but recently I've really wanted an old pocketwatch.

I saw Frank solo in at Fez(nyc) i have mentioned this before because well it was the best performance i have ever seen by anyone doing anything on a stage, small basement club maybe 200 people so Frank felt a bit chatty i guess. so here is where your topic comes in to play, he had just received a watch as a gift from his brother and said that it was his first real watch and that he may have had one or two before but not like this one.( something like that) after a few songs frank had to take off the watch because when you play guitar your fret hand's wrist fattens up and the watch cuts off circulation. i bought my first real watch about six months ago, i wear it more for the symbolism than to know what time it is.

I've never really worn a watch. I've attempted to, but I've never been able to keep one on my wrist for longer than a day or two. I hate how they slide up to my forearm.

No watch till I get the Movado I want for my 2 yr. anniversary. Till then my cell phone works quite well. It also doubles as a decently functioning alarm clock. That ALONE is worth $50 a month. |

Haven't worn a watch for years which I always thought was unusual until I counted up the non-watch-wearers in the this thread. Any one good with statistics? (non watch wearing correlated to enjoying FB/Pixies)

Mine is a Swatch. Not the usual bright type, more a bronze-ish colour. They are damn loud but I like the elasticated strap.
Don't believe the type!

I always wear a watch, except in the shower or when I'm washing dishes. (It's waterproof, but I still don't want to take chances.) I don't think I could deal with not having one, even if I have no need to know what time it is.
I go through watchbands more quickly than most people seem to. I think the one I'm using now is the third one for this watch. I'm not really sure why they break so easily.

I just got a really cool watch from an American friend of mine who collects antique watchs, a really nice sixties silver(it looks silver ) German watch. Before that I had a plastic Casio one from ten years ago which never seems to go out of production(the one Napoleon Dynamite wore in the movie), I really liked it! I think people tend to use their phones now for time keeping, as already said?

Since this thread got revived, I'll ask a question I often wonder:
why do you need a watch if you're a musician up on stage?
For instance:

No, this is not a cheap ploy for me to post a pic of Paul Banks. Actually, yes, it is.
Still, I do wonder -- why do you need a watch if you're playing a show?

To know when the 180bar tenorsax solo ends before the closeharmony kazoo quartet kicks in of course.

Staying on the topic of watches, it's difficult to tell whether Paul Banks is wearing a watch in this here photo:

They are good for knowing when you set time is up. Or to make you look like you alway got somewhere to be (but you have to look at it incessantly to convince people of this |

Thank you for your answer, Heywood, and thank you as well for reposting that photo, as it features a watch, which is the topic here.

i actually agree with two folks so far...
like starmekitten, i can't wear most watches b/c of nickel-allergy... plastic ones i don't mind so much...
like homerspetmonkey, i don't feel naked unless i'm naked.
:)
i don't wear a watch. haven't for years. my phone, like most of yours, has a clock built-in so no real neason exists for me to carry one...
until i get one of those omegas...:) |
