I just honestly want to know, because I think I understand what you're getting at...and I think I sometimes might come off that way to people. Though usually I'm just trying to break down what I perceive as "bullshit" societal barriers and just be friendly and establish rapport off the bat. But I'd like you to clarify, because if my tendencies could be seen as annoying or overbearing, I'll definitely consider curbing them from now on!

No need to apologize, Alex.

I have given this some thought and determined that it's an attitude thing.

It's not about being overbearing or annoying. What makes me uncomfortable is the assumption that a stranger and I suddenly share an established history, like they know the inside joke or something. Maybe they're trying too hard to fit in?

The other day my best guy friend and I were, OK, getting sloppy drunk and his neighbor meandered over and started talking to us, which was fine. But then the neighbor was trying to be "in the know" with certain things. Meanwhile, we've been best friends since 1986, we have our own language, our weird code that no one on the planet can crack, don't try to join us. That probably sounds snotty. Sorry. Again, hard to put into words.

I doubt you are obnoxious like that.

Haha, ok, I see what you mean. No, I'm a little more sensible/tactful than that...phew, glad we cleared that up!

people who have their own little codes that no one else can crack and then get all pissed of when someone gets all overly friendly and tries to act like they know the little code and get all chummy and shit while you're all drunk with an old friend.

gah!
hate that.

forealtho,

mildly autistic theatre majors that have no real personality other than the movies they've seen and the music they've heard...which they have committed every last millisecond of to permanant memory and can and do quote ad nauseum whenever the absolute slightest bit of attention is paid to them.

people who play golf.

people telling me to "lay off the moonshine".

the fucking B string never being perfect.

remembering most of the things i say.

people sho use cocaine and say its "fucking awesome".

being a jackass...yes, me.

feeling like i need to impress someone.

bad teeth.

I'm glad you're back, Kim. Why don't you lay off that moonshine and come do some of my fucking awesome blow with me, huh?

Lightbulbs. They're a BIG turnoff for me.

I was all out of luck, like a duck that died. I was all out of juice, like a moose denied.
