...what do you do to prepare? Is there a ritual you go thru?

For example, music...

Some people are supersticious about listening to music by the band they're about to see, while others listen only to that band en route to the show.

Some people get fucked up before the show, while others prefer to stay sober.

Is there a specific thing you do before a Pixies concert?

I blast even more Pixies than usual, drink a little but not too much so I can dance the entire time.

As I am preparing to see Frankkimdaveandjoey tomorrow night in Quebec, I wonder what the rest of youse do!

Enjoy that, kathryn! (As if you needed encouragement!) Don't drink too much!! I usually make sure I've showered and used the bathroom, that's my little ritual. I always get nervous that I'll miss the start of the show. In fact, I did when I saw 'em at the Phoenix Park, here in Dublin. I may regret that for ever!!

I dont drink anything if its a gig, if its a festival its the complete reverse. For music me and mrs d prefer the b sides album to get us in the mood as it is far more representative of their entire career than any other album.

I like to eat about a pound of shrimp while listening to Bosanova.

I don't try to do anything unusual or different. That way when the show begins it just kind of hits me from out of nowhere and is that much more surreal, not unlike the whole reunion.

Thanks, Carl! Just a few more hours!

I did that with Sonic Youth, missed the first half hour trying to find a bathroom en route to the Boston Garden. Felt like a moron. Which I was.

I would LOVE to see Sonic Youth... really got into them recently, Daydream Nation is an awesome album. Sorry to go off topic, but when did you see them?

In 91, I think. They opened up for Neil Young. Shoot. I have really bad memory. What I did catch of the show was spectacular.
Glad you're getting into them.

i usually listen to something very non-pixies - jazz, classical, brazillian, afro beat, hip hop, anything so that they sound as 'pure' as possible. i don't want to have any expectations caused by recent listenings of the songs. and i usually get there WAY early and have a beer or two. i usually bring a book to most shows (since i usually go alone) to read between acts. yup, i'm that guy

Brian, you are so not making me listen to jazz or hip hop before the show next month.

I want to get to Landsdowne road early when they play Dublin, and get down the front. I'm afraid to drink, beacuse I'll need to take a piss at some stage and may not be able to get back to the front! Maybe I should take a cathether with me, as has been suggested before!! (hee-hee!!)

I didn't drink much beofre seeing them at Briston Academy last year. I wanted to stay sober for that one because it was my first time seeing them.

I was pretty damn drunk (amongst other things) when I saw them at V Festival last year. I will be in the same state I reckon at Reading Festival too. Well you have to be don't you? It's a festival.

I'm glad I'm not the only doofus showing up to rock shows alone half the time. I've never brought a book, but that sounds like a good idea. I'm going to see the Pixies on August 3, and I might end up going alone, so I'll try it then.

Get slightly langered on whiskey Carl, you won't need to piss during the gig at all...
Before the gig in Dublin last year I had a shitty hangover, the queues for cures were too long, but my head miraculously cleared up after 10 minutes of jumping around like a loon.

at the last lot of brixton academy gigs i met loads of mates in the pub by the police station & we stayed there for the support acts, went in for pixies.
was still getting served when winterlong started - didn't repeat that error for second show. (never went to third as it was announced after i'd already booked my flights to paris for the zenith show)
wish i'd seen the supports, but was ggood meeting up with mates only see at concerts...

this is why events unerve me

I know someone who prepared for a Pixies show by getting mugged in Brixton...

I don't know, I don't think I did anything different to usual.

How's that for a slice of fried gold?
