HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHRYN!!!!!

I've got a love/hate relationship with surprise parties for me (I've had 4 of 'em). Not the same though if it's not a surprise.

Don't do it unless you are a professional tile guy.

This post brought to you by the voice of experience.

A rock climbing place, Carolynanna? You're nuts! Awesome, though, for the kids -- and the other parents, I bet. We try to do our kids' parties at fun places, too. It makes me feel good when the other parents tell us the location was a great idea. Still, rock climbing would be outside our comfort zone. Too dangerous for me.

Well its actually an indoor place so its not like they're scaling cliffs. I just like to say that the kids will literally be climbing the walls. They're all harnessed in and there's one instructor for every 3 kids. I might give it a go too.

Strange how your plans turn out sometimes. Last weekend I planned (as I had all year) to go to Reading festival again, but I ended up watching my granddad die. The journey back from Reading to make it to his bedside before he died was the worst of my life.

Nightmare. I was on holiday in Spain with my parents and we tried to get back as quick as we could but it was too late. A few months ago my friend's nan passed away and he didn't make it to the hospital in time, either. He was so cut up when he got round mine. I really feel for you.

I am mainly worried for my gran now. She's the strongest woman I know, and the person I admire the most, but it must be so hard for her.

That's terrible news, homers. On both sides of my family, my grandfather passed first, leaving widows behind. For one of my grandmothers, it was very hard, as she relied on my grandfather for everything and struggled in her remaining years. The other is still going strong, 10 years after her husband's death, and in fact she's much healthier now that she's not taking care of my grandfather. She was his nurse, and his illnesses placed a great physical toll on her. So while his death was a terrible blow emotionally, it was also a blessing -- in that perverse, end-of-life-issues kind of way. Maybe that doesn't even apply in your own grandmother's situation, but at any rate, I'm very sorry to hear this, and I hope you (and your grandmother) can find peace in due time.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

Thanks guys.

I think, and of course hope, that my gran will be like the latter. It certainly sounds familiar.

My best friend's flying in and we will have 2 days of childless, road-tripping Frankness with lots of good cheap French wine.

Norwich? That is has nothing of interest. I know I should go to judge for myself, but when nobody seems to have a good word to say about it, I'm not sold on the idea of going.

You're right though, I am only kidding. If it's your home, then you have enough reason to love it.
