I'm sure the point has come up before, but anyway: From Record Collector this month, David Gedge (of the Wedding Present) is interviewed:
Regardless of value or rarity, what's your all-time favourite record?
Surfer Rosa. I think getting Steve Albini to record The Pixies at that particular point in their career was a stroke of genius. Or very good luck! The sound of that album is fantastic. But unlike a lot of the stuff that Albini records, the songs are just as brilliant. There's light and shade in there, and humour and tension and sex, and the whole thing just leaves you feeling like you've been somewhere else. After we heard that album we decided we wanted Albini to record The Wedding Present. And I've actually got him to record some of the Cinerama stuff as well.
How's that for a slice of fried gold? |
