I haven't been around for a while due to too much work and broken computer at home.

Many strange things are going on here. That's not too surprising though, if you look at it objectively. A couple of months ago, I noticed that the overall quality of threads was slowly decreasing, with some very funny posts, but no constructive discussions. People no longer argued, which is bad - they would sometimes post without reading what the others had to say, without a real dialogue. This nihilistic approach is the only thing that can explain Noisy's radical response - I think he was basically not happy with the overall content of the forum he created.

So, I would say that his reaction comes from a good intention. However, I tend to disagree with the way all this was executed, and this raises the question of Noisy's role on this forum.

Basically, there are two options: laissez-faire (let people post what they want and only intervene when illegal content) and control (the moderator's role includes orientation of the forum in a previously defined direction).

The problem is that Noisy's previous attitude was not to actively shape this forum's content, he was more of a laissez faire moderator. His attitude right now is not very constructive as he is not proposing anything (it is very easy to say "discuss").

I think he should propose an alternative instead of highlighting what's wrong.

I would also like to start over.
hello, my name is Renee.
I live in California, I am 30 years old, and I am passionate about music and life in general.
I work a lot, read a lot, and laugh a lot.

If my 'join in' attitude made others uncomfortable, please understand....I did not take the 'lurk and feel things out' before posting because to read about what everyone here thinks and not interact seems pointless to me. There are blogs for those who want others to read their every word and offer their deference in the form of silence.

There seems to be a lot of animosity here right now that I'm sure will pass, since that is the nature of the Internet. There are a lot of wonderful things that can happen in a place where everyone feels comfortable with themselves and their 'position' on the board enough to let things take their course. That was not directed at the moderators, but at the 'veteran' posters who have contributed much to what has become a very entertaining forum.
And I have been shown some very sweet hospitality in some very thoughtful ways that have encouraged me that it's worth it to stick around. Call me an optimist... :)

May you all find your peaceful resolution to your differences of opinion.

Funny how a tragedy can really put things in perspective.
Weighing the loss of life experienced today versus the loss of pictures on a particular place on the Internet.....just doesn't even register as an issue, really.

EDIT: I received an odd email asking me to 'stop bashing lurkers.' Allow me to clarify that I in no way meant to bash lurkers and I find that interpretation of this post a little bit of a stretch.
I myself am not patient or socially adjusted enough to lurk.
I appreciate that others are. I applaud them.

Those who find themselves ridiculous, sit down next to me.

That was very well put, Renee. I was feeling the same thing re:London. Puts things in some form of perspective. Though I suppose that's the great trick of tragedy, it makes us forget about all the things in every day life that we're unhappy with.

Since i've hardly been a presence, my influence on the 'degradation' would be arguably nil.

Ever since the inception of FB.net, people have constantly complained that it's degrading.

Tell me, at what point was it at its 'greatest'?

the "degradation" of the forum is a riculous concept. it's just that the regular posters run out of arguments and there weren't enough newbies that posted interesting threads. that's it. it happens often in a close circle of friends.

September of 2003 was when Frnck Blck started posting. That was a very exciting event. I know I left in 2004 and came back 8 months later. When I came back, I severely missed El Barto and Proverbial Cereal. Do we still have threads like the "congrats to Jim on getting a credit card" anymore in which one takes a hilarious spin on another forum member's issues? If they're still here, I haven't seen them.
