I'm utterly astounded and completely disappointed that Dave hasn't replied yet. His attitude seems to be that of a teacher to pupils, when many on this forum are probably wiser and have a better feel for the place than he has(now).
The action without discussion seems a poor attempt to get what he wants by - as MCA said - holding a knife to our throats. He's clearly hoping that we'll settle for his original demands as a compromise from this Draconian action.
MCA has stated the case extremely well and far more eloquently than I ever could, and I'm 100% behind what he's said, and what he feels would be the correct course of action. ie unban members, go back to where we were before, and open dialogue about future rules on picture posting. I think the appointment of a female moderator with full mod rights should be a priority. It seems that all this has stemmed from poor moderation (for a variety of understandable reasons) and that needs to be addressed in a positive manner.

All these people whining really make me wonder about the level of maturity of the board members. Give the man a break. Some people decided to play with fire? Everybody pays for it.
I still believe this "General chat" has nothing to do on a FB forum. You wanna see a "general chat" that turned bad? Go to the Deftones forum. The band does not even participate to the forum anymore because it turned into complete anarchy with porn everywhere. |

| I feel partly responsible for this, seeing as I posted a couple of pictures of Veronica Lake in the Pictures Of Non Offensive Women thread. Of course, it seems like we're defying Dave Noisy by doing that, so I see his point, but why are pictures of women you find attractive, no matter how innocuous and innocent, suddenly wrong? Why impose your radical conscience on people out of the blue like that?! And is the complete ban on any images supposed to make other forum members blame the ones who posted pictures of women? And it's very convienient that DN has his little monthly check-up, and left, while oither moderators are left to try and calm the situation. I don't mean to rag on him like that, it's his site and it's a great one, but I do think that it has to said that this is a being handled a little bit unfairly. Sure, disallow all images, but at least stick around to take the flak for it, and answer peoples queries. I love posting pics, of course a lot of people do, and it enhances any forum. Can we at least have an answer to these questions? :( |

I'm finally caught up on what has transpired here.

Trying to maintain a semblance of order on this forum is acceptable. The means you've taken in attempting to do this are completely overblown, not to mention highly disrespectful to all the people who have made this forum what it is. You are penalizing many responsible, intelligent, and considerate forum members for the actions of a relative minority. Through your unilateral and (frankly) bull-headed course of action, you'll be doing more to harm this forum than help it.
I, for one, can vouch for the fact that if you don't re-instill the ability to post images, I won't be coming around here much any more. I think many of the forum members have echoed this sentiment as well.
I've enjoyed this forum greatly for a couple of years. You've made a big mistake and I demand that you reconsider.

i'm afraid that the paragon (within certain limits off course) is valid and not a mere name calling. nazis and communists (and all totalitarian regimes for that matter) started with censhoring stuff way before they started killing people. so in a digital community where speech is all we have and a nick is a digitalized personality locking a nick equals jail, banning equals capital punishment and censhorship is the same. nothing to do with physical death of course but it is important nontheless. the fact that it doesn't provoke physical pain doesn't mean that it doesn't hurt people's feelings all the same.

Um...guys...the point is to discuss the issue, not just 'chat'. Thirty postings of 'where's Dave' doesn't really accomplish much, and waters down any postings with substance.
I'll be posting a new topic in a few minutes, and i hope to answer most of these questions there.
