You're not reading anything I'm saying so I'm not sure why Im bothering. "Try reading some feminists theory"... You wouldnt say that if you really read my posts. You wouldnt say that if you absorbed one thing I said. You dont care, you really dont care about this forum and the people on it, you dont care... you only care about yourself, so why are you in charge? Im not even trying to insult you... I'm just realizing this now... You really don't care.
Also despite the "differences" in the threads, I really dont think its fair that the pictures of men thread isn't taken down as well. To imply that thread is more intellectual or has more dignity than the women one is extremely insulting and degrading. Just because the women's personal TASTES may be different than the men's doesnt make it the same exact thing...ie posting pictures of people that we're attracted to... You cant say "but the men we're posting pictures of are bald and ugly! So it's ok!" What kind of crap is that?? Whats the difference? Its just personal tastes... So because we dared post pictures of women we thought were attractive, that makes it a "worse" thread?
I don't see a difference. And why should there be? Women should be allowed to drool over pictures of guys too. But not if men aren't...

Dave should have mentioned the kiddie porn that a now-banned forum member was advocating -- as well as the nude photos that a newbie posted during her first week here (more explicit than anything the guys had ever posted).
Lastly, nobody ever demanded in the Pix of Beaut Men thread photos of 12-year-old boys.
That's why the threads are different, not due to some mumbo-jumbo high-brow explanation about gender differences.

i'm with dave n. - when it comes to to paedophiles, i think strong and hard measurements are needed. i'm not a hypocrite, but the boundary between beautiful women and kids is not very sharp, as it was also seen earlier in the thread. and this thread just provokes such things. c'mon, be honest, most of pornography is for men, and relies on exploiting women them brutally (not to say that this thread was about pornography). i mean, i'm not holy, i watched porn too. but still my thougths about it are the same. of course, porn has some important social functions (not kidding), but i think there are much, much more negative sides. i'm not talking to forbid porn, i'm just talking about the topic. this thread now, it is an important discussion.
but i'm also against dave n. - i think the more elegant or right way would have been to delete the postings in questions, lock it for a time, reopen it. if it happpened again, then delete it. but to delete it at first place is too simple. a moderator has more responsibility. and to impose one's own "high moral ethics" onto others...hmhm, very doubtful.

of course, pornography exploits women. not so much the actresses, but the whole picture it draws. and this acts back on every individual women, i think. pornography is about debasing women in general.

I COMPLETELY disagree...porn is not about debasing women in general...Its a business, an entertainment business, both men and women are involved on camera AND behind the scenes...the women who do it aren't forced to do it and many of them actually do have standards for what they will and will not do... Tell Jenna Jameson and her million dollar porn empire that she's being debased... Poor Jenna. How will she cope?

Obviously sleaze bag guys may only like pictures of pam anderson and not accept anything less, and so fine, they are sleaze bags.
But we're not sleaze bags...most guys arent. I may be wrong but I dont think anybody on this forum is a sleazebag. Most men, believe it or not, are level headed enough to look at porn, or a beautiful women, and not have it make any difference for how he looks at his girlfriend, or a normal girl on the street. (by the way anyone notice how hot the normal girl on the street is? Seriously, walking down the street every day I see 100 girls cuter and more beautiful than ANY pictures I've seen posted...)
Back when I still had a girlfriend (sniff) I would watch porn one day, think "man that looks fun, let me call up the ol' girlfriend..."... If anything it helps. It wouldnt make me go "Man, why cant my girlfriend have big tits and blonde hair etc etc like those girls in porn, or in Maxim? From now on I'm only going to go out with those girls!"...I mean its almost like completely different parts of your brain... GIVE US CREDIT! We're not braindead drooling morons who think Barbie dolls are what girls should strive for. Most nice normal guys do in fact want to meet nice normal girls. Everyone has their own particular tastes for who they're attractive to, but generally Maxim DOES NOT DICTATE ANYTHING for how a guy thinks of a girl. (if anything it dictates how we look at CELEBRITY women, and who cares if we're debasing them? They're millionaires who are pretty much taking our money and profitting by looking cute, and god bless them for it)

Oh I read your post again : About porn exploiting women by the general picture it creates, not the actresses specifically.
I think what porn generally says is "sex is fun, we want you to masturbate to sex"... I dont think it gets too deeper than that. Sex IS fun and its something people do, and its just kind of covering that area of life, the way that Law and Order covers legal issues in life, and the Food network covers the idea of Food and eating in life...
Also, and I know this has been said but... Guys are in porn too, you know. And usually the guys in porn are total morons and are easily seduced and hypnotized by the beautiful woman. Of course it depends what porn you're seeing but... It doesnt work to say porn exploits women only, if you feel porn is exploitive at all. And hell, what about male gay porn? WHAT ABOUT IT INDEED?

i have a BA in Modern Literature and a Graduate degree in film studies, where i've read extensive amonts of feminist theory and (to pat myself on the back) written some pretty good papers on the subject..

i would consider the girl i'm dating right now to be a beautiful person in many ways.. she's ultra-smart, well-travelled, and highly talented (and successful) in her career (which is an artistic one).. i'm impressed that she can have such a high-stress job but manage to keep her cool and have such a laid-back positive outlook on things. being with her makes me feel relaxed. and i feel like i've already learned a few things from her even in the short amount of time we've known each other.
she also has a great sense of humor, a great laugh, and excellent taste in food (she's already introduced me to 3 kick ass restaurants i didn't know about)..
one of my other favorite things about her is that she's very sexy. she likes to wear skirts all the time which show off her beautifully-shaped body. i can't deny it, she's pretty fucking hot
even thinking about it right now makes me feel good .. |
