I give you an opportunity to prove that you are actually *above* the standard (and unacceptable) level of sexism, and some of you go on defending it, citing 'free speech' and other unrelated bullshit.
I acknowledge that my viewpoint is unpopular, but there's much more depth and a progressive ethic pushing it...as opposed to what was going on, which worked to further isolate women (and men) on here by posting (usually) unrealistic examples of air brushing and cosmetic surgery that is mistakenly described as beauty....when in reality it's probably much closer to an illness.
If you really want to demonstrate that you accept women for who they are, and that beauty is *more* than skin deep, then put your money where your mouth is, and post something beautiful about a woman, that isn't based on a photograph.
Otherwise, you're only succeeding in substantiating my viewpoint.

guess what dave - that thread wasn't about you or how you feel about women. no one made you or anyone else read it. if you want to talk about being better than us and pretty on the inside start a topic about it, don't be a dictator and force it down our throats. i certainlly don't log on to a fan forum to "truly shine" and challenge myself, i do it to have fun and relax, and it really bugs me when people in positions of power use it as an opportunity to preach their glorious "morals" to those whose only option is to sit and take it or leave altogether.

Bullshit. What the fuck? Seriously, what is wrong with you? I really loved that thread, I really had fun with it and I honestly looked forward to checking it out and participating in it. I'm really annoyed that you deleted it. Seriously, that disturbs me and its shockingly uptight, especially for a Frank Black/pixies related forum.
And its not just "oh i liked looking at pictures of boobies" (though I do) is why I'm angry. Its the whole principle of someone who didnt even participate or care just deleting it for no reason, and being so uptight and in his own little world that everybody has to follow. I mean jesus I'm in the process of reading "1984" currently, this is kind of similar (there's this whole repression of sexual desires and sex in general in the world of "1984")
Delete this thread. This thread sucks. It makes me mad. It's bullshit.
No seriously, I'm really angry, fuck you.

I just reread this thread a 2nd time, and seriously Dave you're a self absorbed uptight careless thoughtless miserable idiot.
God forbid I post more pictures of Laura Cantrell. What shall become of us????
I'm usually pretty polite and all in this for fun but I dont know, this really disturbs me. I feel like I could argue a million points against you Dave but I dont have the energy right now, and I almost feel like that's what you want (troll???).
It's like you're the old crodgity grouchy neighbor, and we were all playing with a fun beach ball on a nice summer day and you came and grabbed it and popped it, then gave us all copies of "War and Peace" to read instead. You know, something a big misguided asshole would do. In this analogy I have set up here, that is.
I hope you're really happy with yourself, you're almost like a superhero aren't you? Protecting all of us from ourselves. How could we ever repay you? You're just so intellectual and brilliant, poetic and thoughtful, how do you do it? How can I be more like you?? How can we ALL be more like you???
Well I'm going to go jerk off to some HARDCORE PORN, and guess what, YOU'RE NOT GONNA STOP ME! YOU CAN'T STOP ME! Its KILLING you isnt it?? Ohhh if only there was a way you could somehow come over here and put a stop to it, BUT... YOU.... CAN'T! HAHAHAHA!!!

Well I'm pretty pissed too. And not exactly only about the fact Dave N. deleted that thread. I'm pissed about the fact he deleted one of the MOST POPULAR threads. (and a thread FLOOP started!) You can't just delete a thread with 42 pages, come on man, people spent a lot of time posting pics, expressing their feeling, creating some boys against girls attitude towards the beatiful men thread, etc. And all those people who posted in that thread were expecting their posts to be displayed until a threads get archived or whatever. So when I see a thread like that gets deleted I think:"Which one's next?" What's the point of posting in this forum when you're not sure if a post or thread will 'survive'?
That's why I will never post on this forum again until the thread is back,, or Dave N. deleted his account and left this forum

Dave, fair enough if you´re a moderator you´re entitled to delete conversations myself and my friends here have had because they don´t meet your personal standards, just to say to you if you pulled a similar stunt in a bar or a coffeeshop I´d walk away from you without even offering an excuse.

I wish I could do the same, chickenwithtwoheads. You're not that chicken after all.
I've always agreed with FB.net policy and with its moderators (forget the Jon Tiven thread), who I think are really nice open minded people. I always enjoyed the fact that you could do something wrong and not getting your account locked immediately. That was one of the reasons why I loved this site. People who post here was another one.
That thread was clean entertainment for me. I posted a lot of times on it, and as some of you know, not always physically attracting people, however girls I loved for their weird and special personalities. I enjoyed the fact that I could show you what I like in a girl, and you could show it to me as well, and see how amazing could our differences be and how beauty difference is.
I have loved some girls who wouldn't have won a beauty contest, but not enjoying physical beauty is against nature and against my own morality. I don't care what you think about it.
So I don't care if you bring back the thread or not, of it you delete this one or not, but you have lost part of my respect, Dave.

Hmm, so you can delete whole threads like that? So why, whenever we get spam posts, double posts, etc., do you just lock it instead of delete it? Anyways, I haven't even looked at this thread before now so I can't comment on whether or not Dave's decision was justified but I can say most forums don't even allow you to say fuck and a thread entitled "Pictures of beautiful women" probably wouldn't last very long anywhere else.
Maybe you should change the name to "Portraits of beautiful wommen"

Do you really wish that I'm killed by airliner? Do words mean nothing to you?
Come on, darwin. I'm merely taking the absurdity of the liberal/dem position to its extreme conclusion. Words? What about policy and action? The libs are so worked up over principled rights that they would have us all be killed by those less troubled by such subtleties. Rights are always curtailed in times of war, and this is a time of war, likely of a seriousness and longevity much like that of the Cold War, which, may I remind you, the libs would loved to have lost for us. No, I wouldn't have you killed, but were it not for the seriousness of the right the left would manage to get all of us killed. It's a damn good thing the children have so many adults around, and that the children are managing to work themselves into a long-term minority position. But I must say it wouldn't be a bad thing if the left suffered consequences commensurate with its ignorance, if only because then the children might learn something about the actual nature of the world. But don't worry, the adults will take care of you, despite yourselves, and despite the long absent, apparently re-emergent Dave. Dean, where have you gone? Save us please.
Which is...that one can't unjustly delete things and impose (on others) his refusal to acknowledge anything against his perception of values and ethics? Or do you mean this on a deeper, profound level, i.e. "natural rights" proposed by philosophers such as John Locke?
More likely less profound. I confess to being lopsided regarding my education, to include gaps of knowlege of rationalists vs. empiricists. If I consciously invoked anyone by that phrase, it would be Hobbes or Machiavelli, simply by suggesting the centrality of violence and ruthlessness when it comes to who and what we are. Or perhaps Schopenhauer and his position that it is the negative forces, as opposed to those of hope and light, that play the primary role in forming human nature. We avoid pain more vigorously than we seek pleasure, and it is this simple truth that the left would deny with their misguided optimism about human potential. This could be fine if they alone would bear the consequences of their folly, but they would drag the rest of us along with them into their cognitive morass. The road to cultural extinction is paved with good, idealistic intentions. |

The road to ruin. The despots of history all believed they had intentions that would benefit mankind. Your analysis is frighteningly correct. Stalin, Khan, Milosevic, Attila, Bin Laden, Hussein, McCarthy and the more obvious who I won't mention.
Our free expression issue here is close to many a member's heart, it is true. Yet, in the overall scheme of things it becomes only a diversion from the real liberty we relinquish on a daily basis. Orwell and Huxley were right, just read the Patriot Act, some of which may be necessary in a dangerous world, by the way.
Happy Independence Day - Up with Pink Floyd, long may they create.
This was a nice thread but I think many will agree that Dave's point regarding society's obsession with superficial, cosmetic, repetitive and surgically altered beauty has more than a ring of truth to it. When you really think about it.
The members of this Forum are highly intelligent and more mature / tolerant than 99% of the forums out there. It takes a more developed intellect to appreciate this form of art, very refreshing, it is!

I don't think we should post about book, music, art or film anymore, either. I can't ever write a novel as well as Murakami, I can't write music as great as FB, I'll never paint a picture as well as Kandinsky... these unrealistic examples of art make those who aren't as talented feel inferior. Let's all just continue to discuss the normal, average, plain banality of life so none of us who aren't perfect get offended.

Speedy, it's not discussion though it's the percieved meat market mentality that is the problem, this thread encourages discussion rather than page after page after page of pictures the internet is full of anyway. Do you think Hi-Ksa would have entered an arts or literature thread and demanded books or films about children? When I looked in that thread way back when it was less than 10 pages there was enough banter about the pictures as you'd get in the average thread. Speaking to someone today they told me that it had gotten so the interaction was less and it was just a poster competition.
Boys, your eye candy was taken away (and please don't forget this, despite whatever justification Mr Noisy has ill advisedly thrown about here) the environment got such where it was nearly all pictures, some nudity and smatterings of the rants of a man demanding pictures of children. You remember that? the I want portraits of small women, 12, 13, 15 year olds.
You'd rather harbour that sort of behaviour than lose a few pictures google will regain?
I understand the complaints about accusations of low moral fibre and shallowness, no one likes being told how to think, but do you all think this is helping you all argue your case? I think the situation has been handled terribly, Hi-Ksa has gone, but he might have come back, would you have all been as comfortable with the thread if he had started posting pictures of his small women?
[EDIT] for clarification I don't agree with the deletion of the thread, I've said the guy should be banned his posts deleted and the situation watched, but we all know the mods are spread thin at the moment. It was days before it was picked up on and only then because he re-posted.

LOOK --
I'm a 22 year old guy who lives in Queens, NYC. I've had 2 serious girlfriends, and that's about it. I just got dumped out of a 2 year relationship, had my heart broken, BLA BLA BLA. I've never had any "one night stands" etc (not that it would be wrong if I did)...I pretty much meet a girl and get into a relationship. Often an emotionally stressful and intensely passionate (in good and bad ways) relationship. Wonderful.
Me and my friends, when we're hanging out, we talk about girls. What girls we think are cute. Celebrities we like. We talk about Laura Prepon, whether it matters she dyed her hair blonde or not cause she's still hot. We talk about Rose McGowan joining the cast of "Charmed" and how Allysa Milano just lost her place as the cutest girl on Charmed (and doesnt look cute anymore anyway). We talk about how Rosario Dawson actually has really big breasts and how awesome that is. ETC...
This is called "bonding"... Its also called "fun"... Its something the human species likes to do... The pictures of beautiful women thread was a lot like this for me. It was really fun to talk to other people about girls and other stuff too. When I met Claire Danes randomly (and actually had a decent conversation with her) I really looked forward to logging in and posting my story there. If I find a cute picture of someone (and not just cute but a really uniquely great photograph) I really look forward to posting it and seeing if people liked it.
I'll go back to the beach ball analogy... That thread was like playing sports, or games. You don't play volleyball, or basketball, (ETC) because of intellectual philosiphical bullshit... YOU PLAY IT BECAUSE IT'S FUN. Does that mean it's shallow? You're a hippie right? Do you play hackeysack? Well you should stop that because it's really shallow and kind of degrading to hackeysacks everywhere, being kicked around like that. You should lock yourself away in a dark room and just read some Kafka. Hell I'm surprised you listen to MUSIC.
Dave, you're just really dense and I don't think any of this will have an effect on you in the slightest. But I'd still like the words to enter your brain. You're ridiculous. You're a joke. You're like some sort of one dimensional charicature, like the bad guy in some stupid movie. Don't you see that? Why don't you start your own website, your own forum (THE DAVE FORUM, WHAT FUN). Unless you ARE FRANK BLACK himself, I don't see what gives you the right to pull any of this shit.
Oh and by the way :

If the moderators can't watch it (and it seems they can't) then it can't be allowed to go on, if it had carried on and escalated this site could have been shut down for harbouring kiddy porn. Brian does the best he can, Dave and Dean aren't about. Dave's justification doesn't sit comfortable with anybody I don't think. But, something had to be done. I am sorry for the loss of the thread, it wasn't a place I visited but obviously so many of you feel strongly about it. I just think there should be a zero tolerance on behaviour like hi-ksa's.

I'm sorry Tre, none of what you said, while it is perfectly valid if that's your opinion, refutes what I said.
One of your main points: child porn. The person who posted this (not actual pictures mind you, but veiled requests for pictures of this nature) should be (and was, from what I'm reading) dealt with. One person out of the hundreds that participated in that thread.
Another main point: nudity. The nudity issue came up a while back and was dealt with by the moderators. For those who view the forum at work or for any other reason, it was deemed nudity should not be posted. The person who did post nudity was new, unaware of this, and was corrected by another forum member. Not that it matters, but since you have pointed out the differences between this thread "for men" and the one "for women", I would point out that the nudity was posted by a female forum member, and was corrected by a male forum member. I hate these gender divisions, but that's the facts.
As for the perceived "meat market" or "shallowness" of the thread, yes and yes. It was about drooling over hot women, and no one ever said any different. You find guys like Steve Buscemi hot? Fine, I won't take you to task for that. My own personal preferences for women are beside the point; however I do enjoy the beauty of the female form, in the many forms that beauty can take. That thread was a celebration of this attitude, and at times a place where people posted pictures of, and discussed the shallow, air-brushed, air-headed side of our culture's perception of female beauty.

The offender was banned days after he first posted his requests for small women, and his posts remained for a while even though moderators had been informed. Do you think, honestly speaking and looking around the board now, it is that hard to double account and re-offend? We're crawling with double accounted antagonists. Do you think if left unchecked he would have just made requests or do you think he would have gone further? If he had got himself a new user name and posted these suggestive pictures how long till they were deleted? I know there's a few if's there but it's not a huge stretch of the imagination. I suspect the thread was deleted because the mods are unable to keep checks on it.
The nudity I have been told had been creeping in before missmaceo posted the ones she did. People like to push the boundaries. The nudity in the beautiful men thread, I found out about late in the game, I've also been told this was a moderator test again. That it was posted in response to the fact that the pictures in the other thread had gotten smuttier and they wanted to check on double standards. Don't get me wrong, I'm no prude and well aware of the vast differences of attraction amongst people. But when a policy is decided on, for the benefit of people at work, it should be enforced, it's just not happening.
I have no problems with your thread as it was, I never ventured there I don't care. The way I think and the way other people think are different, I think the attitudes surrounding (most) of the postings in the men thread is different, for me anyway. I would not, I would NOT have deleted the thread, again I think Dave is wrong in doing so but it's his decision to make. I do think the mods need to sort themselves out, and moderate.
I point out the differences between the two threads, only because the first shots made here were against it and it seemed ill thought out. I make references to the types of photo only because they permeate throughout the forum and it makes me personally uncomfortable. I'll admit that, I don't like it, I was happier when the thread kept most of it in.
I still (I'm so repeating myself) think Dave made a mistake with this thread, accusations of shallowness are going to get everyones backs up. But if they can't watch the thread to make sure hi-ksa doesn't happen then they can't let it go on, can they?

I don't really see how deleting the thread makes it any easier to keep hi-ksa(?) or any of his subsequent names from posting offensive material. You may think it serves that purpose, but Dave has made it pretty clear that he deleted it because it offended his political sensibilities and he intends to impose those sensibilities on us. I hope he hands the keys off to someone else. |

Someone sent me Hi-ksa's profile, he posted in a grand total of five threads, one of which he started about posting pictures, one about sexual positions that got locked, and beaut women. He contributed little elsewhere so it was is main hang out. It is a directed sexual thread, so I think he was less likely to post it in a thread about puppies and flowers.
Maybe I have gotten Dave wrong, and maybe his motivations are all screwy but this is the only way it makes sense to me.

Yeah, Dave didnt even say much about the pedo stuff... he just said the thread was shallow, he didnt personaly like it, it didnt fit in his little world view of things and so he deleted it. Dave was being rude, small minded, and pretentious.
Thats Rosario Dawson by the way. Seriously ... big breasts!! And you know what? I don't like her personality. Does that like totally blow your mind?

Tell you what, go start your own forum. Dave started this one, it's his website, his forum. If you came round to my house uninvited and started sticking pictures of women on my wall, chances are I'd kick you out.
I don't know why I'm even getting involved. Honestly, it's an internet message board - you don't have to come here. By the same token, you have your right to moan. So you're moaning, I'm moaning, everybody's happy. Blinkin' marvellous.

I love you too Andy, though I fear I'll always be second place in your affections.
