Further to a conversation I was having last night, do people prefer fat or thin? I realize this is slightly sensationalist and superficial, but I'm not talking about humungously obese women here or anything.
Given the choice between someone who was a bit overweight, maybe a bit chubby, and someone who was really skinny, I'd absolutely go for the bigger girl every time. I don't really see any question about it, so it amazes me when men say they prefer skinny girls, or when women torture themselves to get a really stalk-ish figure.
This all stemmed from a definition of 'buxom' containing the expression 'pleasing curves'...

Well, apparently, the definition covers large bosoms, a bit fat, that sort of thing. I don't know, not really overweight, but I like some cushion for the pushin'. Or something.
I always thought buxom was along the lines of the rosy-cheeked village lovely from a 19th century novel, Moll Flanders or Thomas Hardy or something.

| marilyn monroe was buxom, i think i read she'd be a size 10 by today's US standards. so you like someone who isn't overweight, but isn't boney, right? i think that's what most women aspire to. |

The other day in the waiting room I was reading a magazine for teenage girls and it had written on the cover "Boys like curves" or something, and all they said in fact was that the guys liked girls with big boobs. It seemed pretty obvious.

You're quite right Nicole...
I'm not even talking about what's my ideal shape of woman here, I think thats going down a ridiculous route. Given the choice between noticeably over-weight and underweight, I'd go for overweight. I hope that doesn't make me Professor Peach...

perhaps it's more to do with super skinny is whats applauded everywhere, in the press on the tv in the magazines, the shop dummys....
hehe and surfer, my ex (now you've all seen my picture so you know this was going to sting) told me that large breasts were a turn off! bastard.

And do I need to mention the amount of times I've been told "I love small breasts/more than a handful is a waste blah blah blah" while the person saying it visibly salivated over my friend's ample cleavage. |

Maybe it's an instinct thing? Men just can't help looking at breasts, and the bigger ones are more obvious.
Steve, allow me to clarify: the 'perfect' body that models have is all well and good, but it's almost like they're not real people. I'd rather have someone with a more natural shape, and while I appreciate that some women are naturally skinny, I tend to prefer those who are naturally a little larger.
The point of my thread was to see if I was the only one.

i prefer a girl with meat on her bones as opposed to an anorexic girl. like i always say, the only time rene zellweger is attractive is when she's supposed to be the "not appealing" bridget jones - the rest of the times it would be like having sex with a skeleton (although that would be interesting...but dry...)

Would you also say that ALL men like only one shape of woman too? In which case this topic has already found some liars. If different men like different shapes of women (as displayed here) then why can't they also like different sized breasts?
I would agree if you said "the majority of men prefer large breasts", but I cannot agree with your statement because it is wrong.
On a personal level, the only thing I really care about physically is the girl's face. I openly admit that if the girl has a face I do not like, then I am not interested. Height doesn't really bother me, weight doesn't so long as it's not one real extreme or the other, and neither does the size of breasts. And that's the honest truth.

I think I may have lost track of why I started this thread, heheh.
My point was that women stress out far too much (imo) about their weight - most decent men aren't put off by a little extra weight.

| in general you get more jokes about fat girls than skinny girls...i think there was a study a while back asking male university students whether they would rather date an obese girl or an anorexic girl....almost all said anorexic...but in real life its very much not as black and white as that, i dont think men or women have an inbuilt checklist for what they like, but it can be very much determined by the pressures of society |

I think this thread require more photographic evidence. When I'm out with my friends, I'll often point out girls I like who they think are "too skinny", so everyone's conception of "a little chunky" and so on is a bit different. I personally lean towards thinner girls, but I don't like super skinny-bony. And I will take a nice bum over large breasts any day (though I do love breasts, I'm talking about the really big, not-so-nicely shapen breasts that some men drool over).

i agree with speedy, a female's backside is something that is the deal breaker. breasts are wonderful (WONDERFUL), but small breasts can be just as beautiful as large ones. however, a really huge ass (not big in a good way, big in a BIG way) is an immediate turnoff
