I think Frank Black is underrated as a poet. Looking at some of his lyrics written down, they can be very beautiful and even romantic, you wouldnt even know the song kicked ass too.
Lately I've had this line in my head, from "Smoke Up"
Stone was in me When I was rougher Now my power has suffered in this hour of my oversleep
---
Its got such an interesting rhythm to the words, the way he arranges them...
Another example would be the whole last part of "Speedy Marie"...I showed that to a friend of mine online (he never heard the song) and his reaction was "That is beautiful"
--- Juxtaposed in each moment's sight Everything that I ever saw And my one delight Nothing can strike me in such awe Mouth intricate shapes the voice that speaks Always it will soothe Rarer none are the precious cheeks Is the size of each sculpted tooth Each lip and each eye
Wise is the tongue, wet of perfect thought And softest neck where always do I Lay my clumsy thoughts She is that most lovely art Happy are my mind and my soul and my heart ---
What are other peoples favorite poetic Frank Black lyrics?

Havalina. Very rarely hear a song that marries lyrics so well with melody. I often listen to it during the winter. You can feel the heat and the breeze blowing through the palms. Excellent.
"Molestered me in the parking lot, yep, yep" is a line that always stuck in my head |

The middle section of 'I don't want to hurt you', without a doubt.
I started this lesson in depravity And now we're falling apart in this lack of gravity And my heart is just a muscle in a cavity But it hurts so bad

I hear the rustling outside I think you think it's a witch Yeah, she'll be scratching my itch She will be brushing my hide I feel like taking a ride...
Where the wind is going.
Huge fucking injustice that this song didn't make the final cut for HC.
I think the winter is going to be a real whirligig |

"Mosh, don't pass the guy."
Okay, maybe not.
"We'll trampoline, finally through the roof, on to somewhere near and far in time."
Just about that entire song, actually.

Luuuuurve the poetry!! No disputes from this guy about any of these posts. I love the simple stuff:

Mass Pleeze, I agree with the Happening. The problem is I can't focus on the lyrics without that beautiful melody. |

Eric used to play for Beefheart, didn't he? I believe the song is presented as a story Eric told about the Captain.

whoever wrote the tab to this tune in this site has a damn good ear. it sounds right as rain. and also his kingly cave. that must have been tideous.

Even though Frank doesn't ordinarily rate as one of my favorite lyricists there is a stanza in the song Honeycomb that I really love:
Dance for God Dance for mating The ritual of Her figure eighting |
