Wow... the coolest thing happened to me today...
I met a cousin (once removed) I haven't seen in 20 years. He happens to be an even bigger Pixies and Frank Black fan than me!!! He's been to a ton of shows and has so much knowledge about the band. I was amazed! lol.
It's weird to think that we were both at the Fineline and the Roy Wilkins shows but didn't even know it!
It's definately going to be the beginning of a great friendship.
So, does anyone else have a common bond of Pixies/Frank Black fandom in the family?? I am new to this but it is just the coolest thing to bond over family get togethers! |

| My mum and brother both adore Pixies. My brother saw Pixies live 12 years before me in the exactly same venue! He didn't go to the reunion show though, for some reason. |

| My older sister is the one who introduced me to the Pixies. Now I'm a bigger Pixies fan than she is. Unfortunately she lives in rural Maine and has a baby now, so she hasn't been able to go to any of the reunion shows, but I've been burning CDs for her of the shows I've been to. |

No one in my family likes the Pixies or Frank Black, and when I listen to either of them, they give me strange looks. My mom once asked me why can't I just listen to normal music...

My old lady quite likes the Pixies, the more poppy stuff anyways. I was packing up some junk (moving house on Wed!) and had Motorway To Roswell on.. and she thought it was Supergrass..?!

| My brother likes a lot. It was him who introduced me to the Pixies in 1991. But I was a little too young (11) and then he bought the first Frank Black lp and I was enjoying Los Angeles, Fu manchu, Parry The Wind... So I dig deeper the Pixies (mostly Trompe in the first case) and fell in love with Alec Eiffel. So my brother was a big influence and now, I'm more into this stuff than him. |

hhmmm, my dad listens to bowie, my brother listens to genesis, my mother listens to "clasic flute tunes" and my sister listens to nursery ryhmes...i can't see any patern there...except bowie was influenced by the pixies...and them by him.. i hate my brother and his taste in music and my mother...well, let her listen to clasic flute themes..
ive tried them with the pixies..my dad wasnt too impressed, my mother they were good..but i think that was only cos i was near at the time..:P and she didnt wasnt to hurt my feelings :P anyway...not that any of you really care what i have to say anyway :D |

Watching Fight Club - the ending comes on and I ask my 16 year old daughter. Who is that? <Where is my mind??> The Pixies" - and so it started - Surfer Rosa, Doolittle, Scientific Phenomenalist, Breeders, B Sides and soon Honeycomb."
Remembered Bone Machine and Here Comes Your Man from the radio back in the day and remembered the name but it all comes together the deeper you dig (for fire).

i have a really cool cousin who digs the Ps...totally forgot bout him. he went to see FB+Cs with me...i'm NOT alone!
[edit #2] he was the cousin who David chose to act as his assistant for one of his prognostication acts...so i've a cousin who was on-stage with a pixie! |

Hey Mass Pleeze, now that's very cool, watching Fight Club with your teenage daughter and she helps you on your journey to get reaquainted with the Pixies and The Man!
Welcome aboard, it's always nice to get new posters when they're cool (as opposed to being mean-spirited and anti-social). I've enjoyed your posts so far and I look forward to more.
And, it doesn't hurt that you bring to the forum 6 decades of life experiences. Hey, I've got 5 decades of baggage, and there's just a few years difference in our ages. I was born in '61, you know, the year Roger Maris hit 61 homeruns sans steroids I assume.

I love the topic because I've managed to convert a couple family members. My youngest brother absolutely loves the Pixies, one of his favourite bands. Really likes the early Frank Black stuff as well. His first show was Frank Black & The Catholics on April 5, 2003. My mom likes the Pixies too, but she likes the stuff with the Catholics the best. Black Letter Days is her favourite album (not just of his, her flat-out fave) and Bullet's her most adored song. Following the aforementioned show in '03, I stupidly rushed off to go party, but both the mother and brother hung around and got to meet Frank Black. My mom talked with him for awhile and was telling him about how her oldest son is just a huge fan. She said he seemed surprised and impressed that I got her into his stuff, rather than vice versa; she thinks he must have figured she was a Pixies fan from the old days. She got me an autograph too, it's the only one I've ever held on to from anyone.
Anyway, I've got another brother who isn't exactly a fan (both bros are commercial rap fans), but he digs some songs too - Billy Radcliffe in particular. It's really cool having a family which largely shares my enthusiasm for these bands; I wouldn't want to be subjected to Cool Jazz Vol. 633 or whatever most moms listen to when I go visit her.
