I need some Pixies fan support on this.

First off, I am a Pixies/Frank Black Fan.
I own all the Pixies records on Vinyl.
I got to see them last fall in chicago and it was
a pinnacle rock and roll expirience for me.
Recently, friends of mine bought tickets to see the Pixies
in Indianapolis on 6/7/05, awesome, right?
Here's the rub...

I am a third generation family business owner.
In January of this year, myself and my family, decided to
go out of business after 45 years. Besides being an emotional
time for the family, I'm also under a bit of pressure readying
the store for it's final sale which begins July 1.
I'm a capricorn and "can be a moody guy" , when I'm under duress. It's a fair drive from where I live to Indy, something I wouldn't think twice about if I didn't have so much work to do. The trip would take me away from the store for 2 days. My fear is that not only will I feel guilty about not fulfilling my responsibiblties but that I'll be pre-occupied and thus bring my friends down with my serious-ness.

The question:
Which is the more important, taking responsiblity for my business (which is gonna close anyway but is my last chance to make $ before I lose my job) or see the Pixies live for possibly the last time, and hear songs like The sad punk and blown away live for the first time?

The Conflict:
A. Stop whining and rock out to the freakin' Pixies you idiot!
B. give up my ticket to a friend who will appreciate it and
allow the others to have the happy adventure they deserve untainted by my potential downer-itis?

I'd like the FrankBlack.net opinion on this, I need some perspective.

First of all, JustJeff, good luck with your business and all that its closing entails. I am sure this is, indeed,
a difficult time. But I am also sure that you will have plenty of other opportunities in your life
to make money. Which is why you should get your ass down to the show and have fun.

I still believe in the excellent joy of the Catholics

Thanks, Kathryn, I've read your posts before and take you to be a fine Pixies/Frank Black fan.
Your advice is true enough, as all things must pass, I'll put my faith in the healing/redeeming qualities of rock and roll. To anyone else going to the show, I WILL SEE YOU THERE!

JustJeff, you realize you are getting advice from fb.net's two worst offenders
when it comes to resisting temptation, right?

Kathryn has a very good point....

But to build on Floop's point... if you live near the chi town area... there's lollapalooza july 23 and 24 and there's sommerfest in milwaukee which don't quote me on this but i think is july 7th.

good luck with everything. sorry to hear about the family store. :(

the cool thing is going to pixies concerts and listening to their music is a great way to feel good during a bad time.

Thanks everyone for replying. This confirms my belief that Pixies fans are generally intelligent, sensitive people who truly appreciate the quality of music.
Ultimately, the idea of my friends coming home to tell me how great the show was, was too bitter to contemplate... I appreciate all your comments!

Just Jeff,

Sorry about your business man.

They are really in top form at this point and I do not think you should miss it. Moot since you already seem to have made your choice.

They started the set in L.A., 6/3/05 <late> with <smart> Alec Eiffel and Planet of Sound.

Have fun Jeff.

You don't happen to have a couch in Dublin I could sleep on for a couple of nights, do you Carl? I'd almost be willing to stop by in Dublin on my way home just to see the damn band.

Man, that's so tempting. I have this crazy plan in my head but it's too crazy to be reasonable.

I would say that is how you know you are on the right track. However, I'm not the best person to be giving you this kind of advice. Crazy are the only kind of plans I make.

Nah, I already gave it up. It was too silly. So I guess I'm not going to see any Pixes this year. Maybe next time (when they tour in support of their new album perhaps? )

well, i went, and it was an alphabetical show! GREAT FUN!

my shop starts its' sale this week.
Which I find positive.

maybe some of you have found that in life; things change.
maybe some of you have also found; it is for the better; or worse.
maybe some of us have also found; change is good.
maybe we have found;
though, we do not know what lies ahead, we shall continue...

Perhaps, that is somewhat simialar to Frank/Pixies musical career.
...perhaps, yours and my lives...

Thanks, man.

definitively it worth it, I spent a lot of money in order to watch them in Brazil, but worth each dollar that I spent..I´ll remeber all days in my life.

In fact I was changing my job and one of my conditions to the new employer was that he had to wait until i returned...

You should totally dream the impossible dream. And beat the unbeatable foe, while you're at it.

Trust me when I say this (bearing in mind I am freakishly obsessed with the Pixies).

Seeing them live is simply one of the most breathtaking, enjoyable and connecting experiences ever. Being surrounded by a mass of bodies jumping and stamping about and screaming back the words the the songs you love while your idols sit atop a stage and make sweet sweet music as blissful as t'was the day you first heard it is simply one of the greatest things you can ever ever do. Ever. and I mean that.
